We got plenty of IMs from friends wondering why Robin Williams was presenting the Best Supporting Actress award at this year's Oscars. Sure, he won the award for 'Good Will Hunting,' but that was twelve years ago.
Tradition always has the winner of the previous year's award for actor present to the actresses in the category, but because the late Heath Ledger won for 'The Dark Knight' in 2009, the producers of the show had to come up with a substitute.
Was Williams the most suitable choice to present the award to Mo'Nique? If you don't think so, who should have presented in his place? A star from 'The Dark Knight' perhaps? Maybe Michael Caine, who won the award for 'The Cider House Rules'? Debate below. And tell us if you figured out right away why Williams was up on the stage.

I thought that was why Jake Gyllenhall was on stage. He presented some award just before the best supporting actress one.

Where was Jack Nicholson? He was MIA from the front row!

Javier Bardem didn't present last year so he would've been a good choice. But I didn't mind Robin Williams at all.

I didn't mind at all either....C'mon....it's Robin Williams...It was a refreshing surprise to see him appear at the Oscars since he has a range of talent himself; and can appreciate the uniqueness of Mo'nique's abilities and her range of talent. I was also delightfully surprised by a few other appearances: Oprah, Demi Moore and the wonderful Barbra Streisand...what a line up...it made me smile... I am still smiling that Robin Williams was the presenter of choice..Heck, he could have hosted it..not to say that Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin weren't entertaining enough;Just a Huge admirer of Robin Williams...
Who cares?

I agree. Who the heck cares, or even noticed. It's a silly spectacle given by overpaid voyeurs of life who don't contribute a heck of a lot to society in general.
You are kidding right John? WE are the voyeurs into THEIR lives. And don't give to society? Oh I see you are a right wing Fox news watcher that hate those mean ol limousine liberals. Better check out just exactly how much of their wealth they spread around, and how much you spread, before opening your mouth. Think they are overpaid? Fine, nothing wrong with that, the best of them admit to being paid for pretending. But you know what? We have thousands of hours of film to watch, to entertain us. I wish the Govt. gave back such a nice return on my dollar.

they should have had Michelle Williams present in memory of Heath. Thier daughter would have an awesome memorial from her parents to remember...

That time the actress was in the bathroom when she won an award...can't remember who it was or what she won...producer Bill D'Elia went onstage to receive on her behalf, followed closely by Robin Williams who turned an awkward moment into schtick. Is that why?
