Every year, there are a few names who always wind up being left out of the Oscars tribute to the stars who died in the previous year. This year, the PopEater team was shocked that Farrah Fawcett, one of the year's biggest celebrity losses, did not make the cut.Surely, the actress is known mostly for her TV work on 'Charlie's Angels' and the TV movie classic 'The Burning Bed.' But Oscar shouldn't have overlooked that Fawcett starred in films ranging from the sci-fi thriller 'Saturn 3' to the '80s road-rally hit 'The Cannonball Run' to the drama 'Extremities' to Robert Altman's 'Dr. T and the Women' to 'The Apostle.'
Did you notice any other stars that didn't make the cut in this year's tribute? Remember, John Hughes was not nominated in the film montage, but he had been singled out in a separate tribute earlier in the evening. See Clips of John Hughes Tribute >>>

It is very disappointing that Farrah was left out. She did alot of acting during my generation both movie and tv. Her death was overshadowed by the loss of Michael Jackson and now again. How how shameful and sad..

Yes it is a shame that Bea and Farrah were both missing - wonder who put that together - they did a very poor job - George Clooney didn't look happy tonight - I thought rather smug and his girl friend never smiled - she was just candy on his arm and a bad bar at that -

Pernell Roberts, who died around the time of Jean Simmons, was also left off the list. :-(

Oh sure they remember a freak who was hardly even an actor Michael Jackson and forget Farrah and Bea? Shame acadamy. Shame.

BLS- King remembered as King Of Pop. You are a freak. Don't blame Michael Jackson for Fawcett and Arthur omittance. King is great. Blame Academy. He will NEVER be forgotten.
Jackson named himself the King of Pop. Not the public. But I do agree that he will never be forgotten.....but it will be as the freak act who molested children. You're in denial if you think that it isn't the first thing people think of when they hear a Michael Jackson song. And by the way, he didn't invent the moonwalk.....he stole it from some street kids. And as far as that "World's Greatest Entertainer" BS, that's the same thing that was said about Sammy Davis, Jr. before him.
I noticed immediately! She died the same day as Michael Jackson and he's all we hear about. I cannot BELIEVE the Academy Awards left HER OUT! SHAMEFUL. SHAMEFUL. SHAMEFUL. DISGUSTING TO SAY THE LEAST.

Diane P, Red River NM - Every death is significant. Fawcett was a wonderful actress. However, she did not have the popularity worldwide as Michael Jackson does. Love or hate him, he is an ICON. His death naturally overshadowed hers albeit both died the same day. Don't blame King. He is great. We will ALWAYS hear about him.
Michael was more famous, loved and a bigger artist than her that is why he was spoken about more on the day they both died. Anybody with a brain should know that. You envious mj haters need to get over it.
DC - KING DID NOT name himself King Of Pop. Elizabeth Taylor coined. If it did not SUIT him, it would not have stuck. Thriller ALONE makes him greatest. Let's not discuss the REST. I don't know about you, but I've got work in tha AM. In other words, we would be in here for DAYS talking about KING'S accolades. Did I neglect to mention they are ALL well deserved? Forgive me.
Shame on them for forgetting Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arther.

James Mitchell who although he was a soap star in later life was very prominent in the early years of the Musicals.

I remember the year Brad Renfro died and was not included. I beleive I heard that the explaination was that to be included, you had to be a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science. I do not know if this is true, but it would account for why certain people are not included. Farah, Bea, Henry Gibson, etc may not have been members. Apparently, Sean Penn isn't.

PATRICK SWAYZE -- Did they remember Patrick?
Reply
Yes they DID do Patrick as well as a few others but the camera was on James Taylor (the musician singing). The home audience missed quite a few folks.
Yes, Patrick was the first one they showed. Demi Moore introduced the segment.
He was first in the memoriam.
PATRICK SWAYZE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST SHOWN
Yes they did
How do you expect them to respect the dead. They made the living legend Lauren Bacall accept her Oscar from the audience, no stage time.
