Oscars Monologue: How Were Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin?

Double the Best Picture nominees, double the Oscar hosts. After a jazzy song intro courtesy of Neil Patrick Harris, Martin and Baldwin were lowered down from the ceiling and immediately began roasting the stars in the audience.

"Meryl Streep holds the record for most nominations as an actress, or as I like to think of it, the most losses," joked Martin. They continued to joke about Gabourey Sidibe, the cast of 'Inglorious Basterds,' Helen Mirren. When it came to George Clooney, the pair were speechless. The pair put on 3-D glasses when they spotted James Cameron.

As for ex-spouses and Best Director rivals Kathryn Bigelow and Cameron, they joked the 'Hurt Locker' captain would send Cameron a gift basket with a timer, while the 'Avatar' director would send Bigelow a Toyota.

Bakdwin is worse than a bad joke or even a jerk. The time and ink that have been spent on him are truly wasted. To team him with SteveMartin as co-hosts of the Academy Awards only shows how far down the oscars have gone. I, as a member of the business found the whole show enbarrasing, slow and a far cry from the days of Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal and all of the true stars who have been presented and the new actors (not "movie stars") we are seeing. It was hard to watch this year. I doubt that will happen again.

The OSCAR is inside beltway - and not funny or entertaining for us folks out here watching on TV. I miss Robin Williams and Billie Crystal.

What lousy material. How could they possible get laughs with that garbage? And did you see George Clooney-he was so pi**ed! I was with him-it was just so bad.

I have to say that the opening was really awkward, and i had high hopes, what is up with George Clooney he was so upset looking...is there a background on that

Yes, I have to agree with you on that. I have no idea what was up with that look on Clooney's face, but he looked unhappy with something...maybe Alec Baldwin, couldn't be Steve Martin, but you never know.

It was one of the most INSIDE jokes ever on T.V. I guess Clooney is in a tiff with SAG and the Writers Guild. He opens his rich mouth up about disputes about real working class members of these unions. Anyway, WRITERS get paid to write these jokes. When they mentioned George Clooneys name....THEY DIDNT SAY ANYTHING. So in other words, the WRITERS didnt write anything pertaining to Clooney, hence a veiled "SLAM" on him. Watch the replay, they did this twice to Clooney, and u can clearly see he isnt at all happy, but boy did they get him good....really embarrassed his pompous arse.

Note to Editor: When two people are talking, it isn't a "monologue", it's a "dialogue", or "skit". MONOlogue means that just one person is talking -- like when Jay Leno opens his show.

Actually, I thought most of the show was awkward, all of the bits were just a little too long; and I think the actors needed a little more time to read their supposedly funny remarks and sound natural

What? No Farrah in the In Memmorium? And it wasn't an oversight? Some people had to be excluded due to time constraints? Certainly it shouldn't have been Farrah. Had she been alive she could have done the tribute introduction for Jeff Bridges. Remember "Somebody Killed Her Husband"? Not to mention Myra Breckenridge, Logan's Run, The Apostle & Saturn 3. Bad judgement call. Shame on you Academy. I hope there is one Angel in heaven who will forgive you cause I won't.
