Farrah Fawcett was left off the 'In Memoriam' segment of the 82nd Academy Awards because she was an actress better known for her television work, the executive director of the film academy said on Tuesday. The controversial decision to leave the 'Charlie's Angels' star off the list was the result of a long discussion, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences executive director Bruce Davis told the Associated Press.
Fawcett was best known for her "remarkable television work," he said, and would be more appropriately honored by the television academy at the Emmy Awards. The Academy Awards recognizes achievement in movies.
"In every category, you're going to miss some wonderful people," said Davis, who has helped assemble Oscar's 'In Memoriam' montage since it began in 1993.

Leaving Farrah F out in the dark Oscar night was just plain stupid.

stupid, ignorant and tasteless... not unlike the show...
what about Bea Arthur, and Ed McMahon..
Michael Jackson? please..
it was a crass decision and mirrored tastelessness beyond belief. An iconic superstar whose grace and poise alone should have been recognized in a brief moment in an otherwise way tooo long production of awards that noone cared about!
Sorry but i agree that Farrah shouldnt have been left out. Michael Jackson is a pop artist and shouldnt have been included in the Oscars. I think the academy awards dropped the ball this time and hopefully next year they wont make the same mistake.
Michael Jackson deserves to be recognized he also did acting... he did The Wiz starring Diana Ross, as well as many long length videos - the longest was Ghost almost 40 minutes. He was much more than just the King of Pop!
I find it hard to believe the academy couldn't find another four seconds within their show to include Farrah. If they can justify including Michael Jackson for one movie, then how can they justify omitting Farrah when she was in several movies and a member of the academy? Very poor decision.
I totally agree, this was such a stupid move by the "academy" Farrah was a voting member of the academy for more than 40 years! Are you kidding me! Most of the people in the memorial part of the program, never heard of them!!!
She was also in the movie "Saturn 3" with Kirk Douglas and Harvey Keitel.

The best part of Saturn 3 was her exposed right breast. The rest of the movie was horrible.
Nobody would have missed Michael if the Academy didn't show him. Farrah did way more movies than Michael. His genre is music, not film.

I'm Confused. If the reason the Academy Excluded Her Because best known for her T.V. work. Then Why was Michael Jackson Honored at the Oscars? She actually stared in Many more Films than MJ. MJ was a Singer. Perhaps they should have just left him out since he was just a Music Star!

So it was a conscious decision. Well shame on them!!

This is plain stupid, I love michael jackson but he was no movie star and he was apart of the tribute.......And they totally left out Bea Arthur from Golden Girls......somebody made a huge error and they're trying to cover it up by saying she was better known for tv work, give me a break. Is there anybody else they left out of the tribute??

If she wasn't added because of her television career then why was Michael Jackson on the list?

I'm sure it was a long discussion!?!? Just a lame excuse! How hard would it have been to include one of the most prolific, iconic stars of all time? Shame on you Mr. Bruce Davis and the Academy!

First Farrah dies the same day as Michael Jackson so he gets all the press instead of her. Now they decide a film star (regardless of TV or movies because she did both) should not be recognized but someone who never really made a film in his lifetime should be recognized. What a lame excuse by this academy member, Bruce Davis, who called the shots on this decision...he'll probably never quite understand how cruel this was towards Farrah's family or to the public who loved and remembers Farrah..maybe Bruce Davis could better understand by considering this...perhaps when he dies the academy should ignore and not acknowledge his death..this would probably only effect his family because no one else would miss that he wasn't acknowledged at an academy ceremony. At least not as many who are noticing that Farrah wasn't acknowledged! I hope the academy gets lots more blogs for their stupidity on this decision!
That's such B/S. Usually I sit there & watch a list of how many people whom I've never even heard of get honored in the memorial. This is someone who everyone knew of. She was a big star. She was in 15+ movies & was even nominated for a Golden Globe for one of her movies. I remember seeing her star opposite Richard Gere in 2000's "Dr. T & the Women" & she was also in "Cannonball Run" with Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise (who they did honor!) If the omission was a mistake, then someone needs to own up & stop making excuses. If she was left out on purpose, then it was a very poor choice. So ignorant.

Pure BS...MJ was no movie star- a singer indeed but Farrah was both a TV and movie star...someone needs to step down from their job as they don't understand the position they have put the Academy in. Poor judgement to the world deserves a firing....

I think the decision to keep Farrah off of the memorial was a terrible decision. To the fans who loved her and who support entertainment of all kinds - to say that Farrah was a television versus a movie actress is simply nonsensical. She was a good actress and impacted the industry in her own way.

It was silly of them to have Michael and not Farrah, but all this anti-Semitism disguised as pro-Catholicism is just wrong...
