Farrah Fawcett was left off the 'In Memoriam' segment of the 82nd Academy Awards because she was an actress better known for her television work, the executive director of the film academy said on Tuesday. The controversial decision to leave the 'Charlie's Angels' star off the list was the result of a long discussion, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences executive director Bruce Davis told the Associated Press.
Fawcett was best known for her "remarkable television work," he said, and would be more appropriately honored by the television academy at the Emmy Awards. The Academy Awards recognizes achievement in movies.
"In every category, you're going to miss some wonderful people," said Davis, who has helped assemble Oscar's 'In Memoriam' montage since it began in 1993.

What a goofy excuse for omitting Farrah from that movie tribute: because she was more of a television actress than a movie actress!? By that rationale them Michael Jackson should have been omitted because he was more of a musical entertainer than a film entertainer but that didn't happen-did it? The slight was rude and unwarranted and the excuse is beyond ignorant! Now I know why I stopped watching this popularity contest so many years ago and why I won't be watching it next year either! Shame on the ones who made this huge mistake of a decision!!

I loved her in 'Dr T and the Women..'

Such a cop out! They should just admit they made a mistake. Michael Jackson was not known for his film career, he was a singer!! Farrah Fawcett was a known actress and should have been included in the tribute. I think it is time to stop watching the Academy Awards. We should be honoring everyday people who make real contributions to the world.

Leaving Fawcett out of the awards memoriel was just plain stupid and dumb. I will never watch the show again ...what a lame response as to why they left her off. SHAME ON THEM

The sad thing when my family and I notice That farrah was left out of the Mem and B Art I had defended the the Show saying that Farrah and B Art were great TV stars and not Movie stars but I had to EAT my words when The Jerks put up M Jackson who had never made a Motion Picture that I know of I would loved them to show all are TV and Movie stars in The MEM segment that we had loved as we all grew up to love. Will miss them all always

Michael Jackson was a singer, did I miss his version of A Streetcar Named Desire? Give me a break.

An excuse is a reason wrapped in the skin of a lie. Why not just say we screwed up and we are sorry. Any time someone tries to make excuses it makes them look dumb or dishonest.

Farrah Fawcett,Bea Arthur and Ed McMahan were all recognized in a tribute at the Emmy Awards. And since the majority of their work was in television that was the proper place for them to be recognized . But I don't understand why Michael Jackson was mentioned at the Academy Awards at all ..

Thats why I don't watch the stupid show anyway, all of it just patting each other on the back, leaving FF out was just another reason I have better things to watch. Besides, we don't need the oscars to remember such a beautiful woman.

They needed the 3 seconds of airtime when they could have showed her pic, so they could have another pan-shot of the audience

I would rather the Academy had inadvertently left her out than had a long discussion and intentionally left her out. That revelation is not cool. She was more than an angel.

Ok....Logan's Run, Saturn 3, Sunburn, Extremities, the Apostle. That's 5 movies just off the top of my head that Farrah did. This is it. A movie that was made with footage taken of rehearsals, made AFTER the man was dead and the Wiz.
Oh yeah I understand now...............NOT.
The Oscars fail on this one.

If you are going to exclude someone because they were primarily
known for acting on TV as opposed to movies then why are there
actors/presenters on the show like Tina Fey who is obviously
known more for her acting on TV.

Yes, true, Farrah was a television star. To me it does not matter. Farrah was an AMERICAN icon. I don't think there was anyone who has not heard of Farrah Fawcett. You should have known there would be an outlashing by omitting her from the memorial section of the awards regardless of whether she was more of a t.v personality or not. This to me is a disgrace, there was noone more worhty of being remembered on the awards show than her. She got the short end of the stick because Michael Jackson (rest his soul) died on the same day. Now sh is getting the short end because why again???? Give me a break. No matter what the reason it is a crying shame she was left out. You think that the ones who were remembered that noone knew their names before the show really needed to be on there....Maybe, But I don't think so.......Now what will be done to make up for this??? Pickett the awards show next year....sounds like a good idea to me......after all we need to stand up for what we believe to be true and I believe Farrah should have been included in the memorial, there is noone more deserving to be remembered by her peers than Farrah. I had heard rumors that it was because of Ryan Oneil that she was lewft out and if that is the case shame on you. Give credit where credit is due.....She was a talented actress and deserved to be remembered.
