Pop Ed: It's almost hard to conjure an image of Kate Gosselin circa 2007: reverse mullet, reputation for endless nagging, famous only for her large brood of children. Back then, fans rallied around her poor, beleaguered husband, and when news of the couple's split first broke, PopEater polls showed an audience vastly skewed in support of Jon Gosselin.
Then everything changed. Jon's behavior, including multiple dalliances with younger women and an increasingly likely pre-separation relationship, turned the tide in favor of Kate. By October, four months after the Gosselins announced their intention to divorce, nearly 75% of over 256K voters were decidedly rooting for Kate. With the news that Kate is one of 11 celebrities who will be competing on season 10 of ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars,' we're calling the game... and Kate won.
If you switched from Team Jon to Team Kate during their divorce debacle, it likely had less to do with Kate's good choices and more to do with Jon's bad ones. In addition to publicly canoodling with 22-year-old Hailey Glassman, Jon further damaged his reputation with frequent, flip-flopping statements to the press. In September of last year, the 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' dad told Good Morning America that Kate verbally abused him for the duration of their marriage and claimed to "despise" her.
Later the same month, Jon told In Touch Weekly that he owed his wife an apology, explaining, "I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated ... I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon."
Weeks later, Jon battled allegations that he took an unauthorized $230,000 from the joint bank account he shared with the mother of his eight children. Kate, who was living with the kids in the family's home, told 'Today', "I have a stack of bills. The last thing I wanted was to do this show and end up not being able to pay our bills."
Jon may have put the final nail into his PR coffin by halting production of the show that made his family famous. In October, Jon filed a suit to stop TLC from filming his eight children after they dropped him from the title of the show -- it was to become just 'Kate Plus 8.' He claimed that TLC violated Pennsylvania's child labor laws in filming his eight children, but his actions struck many as simply a way to punish the network and his estranged wife.
While Jon made a mess of things in the press, Kate slowly unveiled her new image. With a continued focus on her kids' happiness, a guest hosting gig on 'The View' and a fashionable new haircut, Kate has distanced herself from the divorce scandal gracefully. And now that Kate has been cast on the upcoming season of 'Dancing With the Stars,' she has a weekly opportunity to dance herself permanently into America's good graces.
TMZreports that Kate will practice 'DWTS' moves in a makeshift studio in her basement so she can be close to the kids. Kate's children just may be the reason for her decision. Since her ex-husband's lawsuit with TLC cost the family a hefty sum, Kate is taking her role as primary breadwinner very seriously, sources told RadarOnline.
"Kate's the kind of woman who will do whatever is necessary for her children," said one source. "It's great for her to be on the show, but she did it only in a way that benefits her family."
Expect to see a lot of tykes in footage for the show -- and a lot of positive mom-points for Kate. On Monday, Kate told Jimmy Kimmel that her kids still come first, despite her hectic dancing schedule. "The whole goal is obviously to be at home as much as I can, and I'll come home back-and-forth each week. If I can cook dinner and dance, I'll be doing really well."
Without the same kind of outlet for Jon -- no 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' and no regular TV gig of his own -- we can't imagine he'll ever catch up.

Of course Kate came across as a nag, he never did a thing to help with those children. You just need to be totally organized to keep from total chaos. Jon acted as another child and did nothing unless Kate nagged him into it. You play you pay. He needs to grow up. From what I have seen, she's doing what she needs to do to keep those little ones on the straight and narrow.
Kind of hard to be a good Mom when you never spend time with your kids. When Kate is not booking appearances she is in the chair getting her hair extensions tweaked, in the dentist getting her caps whitened, in the salon getting her tan and nails done and in the gym working out. The only time she actually spends with her kids is for photos, a nanny brings them to her, she gets her picture taken in a parking lot holding their hand and then they are turned back over the the nanny. Then there is the recovery time from plastic surgery.. no, this is not a good mother, this is Mommy Dearest. Repugnant.
Get a life people, leave Kate alone. She needs money and fun and she is doiing what she wants. Good for her... She is very pretty, I'm sure it won't be long tell we see her with some hottie. You go girl!!!!!! I am all for Kate.... Good luck. Anyone who can raise 8 kids is ok in my book,
Kate is a fame whore. I hope she is the first one voted off she needs to be home taking care of her eight kids they need her. She is a selfish person. Her five minutes of fame were over a long time ago.
I think she is disgusting. All the new hair in the world isn't going to fix her..................trampy, ugh........nasty breeder is the only reason she is on TV. And if it wern't for the kids she popped out she wouldn't be on TV. Can we move on to more important matters?????????????
