Roger Ross Williams got a second chance to give his Oscar acceptance speech on Monday night during an appearance on 'Larry King Live,' but instead was interrupted once again before crossing the finish line. At Sunday's Academy Awards, Elinor Burkett, co-winner for Best Documentary Short 'Music by Prudence,' cut Williams off, but this time the culprit was the show's host, who apparently tried to signal Williams that he'd gone on too long with his thank-yous.
Given the chance to finish his speech, Williams started from the top, complete with "Oh my God, oh my God," but then carried on for close to a minute and a half before stopping mid-sentence. After looking around awkwardly, the camera panned to King who signaled Williams to come back to the set.
"I wasn't cutting you off, Kanye" King told him, referring clumsily to the incident at last year's MTV VMAs, where Kanye West interrupted an acceptance speech by Taylor Swift. The singer was allowed to finish her speech later in the night when Beyonce invited her up on stage.
This was King's attempt to be the Beyonce to Williams' Swift. Watch:
In what was dubbed the "Kanye" moment of the night, 'Prudence' producer Burkett rushed the stage while Williams was doing his thank-yous and verbally nudged him aside so she could speak.
The problem is that she was not supposed to accept the award, and because of personal animosity between the two filmmakers, she said Williams rushed to the stage while his cane-wielding mother blocked Burkett from exiting the aisle.
In an interview with Salon, Burkett said she was shut out of Oscar-related events and because the two aren't speaking to each other (related to a lawsuit over the film), they did not discuss who would be allowed to speak if they won.
"She just ambushed me," Williams said of the moment Burkett emerged on stage. "I was sort of in shock." Watch:
I didn't think at all that larry cut him off, He gave him the chance to express how he felt and give the speach. Larry is nothing but fair. And when someone rubbs him the wrong way, Well just like the rest of us he lets them know. But he was not at all rude with this guest.
I agree with Larry King stopping Mr. Williams. He was taking too much time now. At first, I thought Larry king was making a joke. I don't think so now. He had Mr. Williams finish his thought though and that was nice.
Acutally, Roger Ross Williams should thank Elinor Burkett for what she did. We know who they are because of this. It's actually funny. Who care about the "moment" on the state when now he has his 15 minutes of fame and more.
I am in total disbelief that Farrah Fawcett was Not mentioned during the obits section of the Oscars...It was a down right shame she was slighted.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who ever was in charge of this is a total knuckle head..She at one time held the title for selling the Most pin up pictures in America. She had hair cuts named after her, her movies, her tv show..i could go on..The very idea of leaving her out and mentioning people we NEVER heard of was a huge mistake..i immediately noticed it and turned to my husband and said, "Hey they left out Farrah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" WHAT A HORRIBLE SHAME. NOT ONLY WAS SHE OVERSIGHTED DUE TO MICHAEL JACKSON'S DEATH THEN THE OSCARS DO THIS TO HER! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!! I am extremely disappointed in the academy. joy aprill
I originally thought the same thing about Farrah as well as some others like Bea Arthur, etc. But my wife pointed out that Farrah and Bea were TV stars and not movies stars. (not sure if they did a theatrical movie, but Michael did "The Wiz" and "This is it"). And since Oscars are about the theatrical movies and not tv, it was understandable that she wasn't mentioned. None (or at least most) of the people mentioned during the Oscar memorial did not get mentioned in the Emmys last year.
Farrah Fawcett was one of the most genuine people in Hollywood. It is a shame that they did not honour her as she should have been. Farrah starred in one of my favourite movies, The Burning Bed. She was a lady and she touched my heart with the courage and bravery she showed the world as she fought a brave fight against cancer.
Mr. King probably fell asleep , then woke up and thought it was his naptime . Honestly , I think it was time to return him to the crypt before egyptian authorities found him missing .
Actually, I has nothing to do with being movie or tv stars, it actually has to do with being members of the CAA..which they both were and deserve to have their names listed.
Actually both Bea Arthur and Farrah Fawsett were in films. Farrah was in clunkers such as "Sunburn" and "Saturn 3", while Bea reprised her stage role in the film version of Mame and gave a hilarious performance in (Mel Brooks) History of the World Part One. Sad omission. Personally, I'd like to see the "In Memoriam" segment feature everyone, for the sake of the individuals, their families, and the viewers they may be unaware that they've passed. Omit a stupid skit or other long winded boring intros and do use those minutes for something that matters.
POPEATER STOP!! You keep misleading your readers with inappropraite descriptions of events! Burkett DID NOT "rush the stage" she was INVITED TO the stage by the Academy!! THERE WAS AN OSCAR WAITING for her!!! She belonged ON STAGE!! Your insinuations that she "rushed the stage" are INNACURATE AND MISLEADING AND WRONG!! Her name was on MY television screen right there alongside Williams'. The presenter was holding her Oscar waiting to give it to her...since when are winners supposed to wait in their seats for the presenters to walk into the audience and hand the WINNER their award???? YOU DO INJUSTICE here...STOP IT.

Her name was listed as one of the winners and he was suppose to wait for her to get onstage. Now we know his Mom stopped her. Pretty immature.
