The Price Is Really Right: Bob Barker Donates $2.5 Million to PETA

Bob Barker has always been an advocate for animal rights, from demanding that a zoo in North Carolina close their bear exhibit, to paying for an anti-whaling ship to rove the waters. And if you ever watched him conclude an episode of 'The Price is Right,' you know his opinion on spaying and neutering pets.

Now, the Associated Press reports that Barker has donated $2.5 million to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to help open a new location in Los Angeles.

He will have the honor of cutting the ribbon at the newly-named Bob Barker Building on Wednesday.

Barker's money will go towards a complete renovation of the building, which will be used as the center for PETA's media, marketing, youth outreach and campaign departments.

The President of PETA, Ingrid E. Newkirk, joked that Barker could have simply donated a refrigerator, but he went way beyond the gift of a household appliance.

Just when I thought I couldn't love BB any more he goes and does this!! Not only has he spread the spay and nueter message for over 25 years, now his generousity will help the work being done for animals everywhere. Bob, you are a true angel for the animals. Thank you BOB BARKER. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul is unawakened. We should see all life as valuable or we can't coexist. They have no where else to go. We should be generous enough to share our space with them and take care of all God's creatures. Animals are helpless and they depend on us to take care of them. It is our fault that we didn't fix the dogs and cats, especially, to where we have a surplus of them today. They are loving and very appreciative of their care; they love you no matter what. People can work and earn their living to take care of themselves. There are those that are too lazy to take care of their own animals. We continue to let people have puppy mills. That is our ignorance again. We can judge the heart of a man by it's treatment of animals.

I think it is an incredible service when someone chooses to spend their money on anything besides themselves. It was Bob Barker's money. He gets to choose how to spend what he made. Some people donate to humanitarian aid missions, but thank GOD there are people who think to donate to causes like PETA. Obviously, Mr. Barker has read and studied PETA's mission, which few of you have, apparently.

You are a totally confused vegan woman. His money will do no good. Vegans will do more good by buying milk so that the farmers will make money and buy feed for their animal. Right now they milk them but can't sell the milk and can't feed their animals. The animals produce milk but do not get fed. That is the Peta doing. But I like your name Larisa. What a wonderful man! So many of the rich/famous/both do NOTHING good with what they have achieved or been given; he is a shining example of using both wealth and celebrity for good. The fact that, in addition, so many ignorant people bash PETA (because they are too narrow-minded to inform themselves and too selfish to change), makes his Standing Up all the more laudable. Bless you, Bob Barker!

Bob Barker and PETA are amazing. They fight for animals who are abused, neglected, injured, and forced into captivity. Congrats to PETA and Mr. Barker for helping to make this world a better place!

Billie Do not ask me about precaution in making Breast milk cheese. I only saw three print stories that three men (two of them chef) were having cheese made out of the breast milk of their wives. One of them sent quite a lot of cheese to Kelly and her cohost of Live with Regis and Kelly. Frankly I think people should stick to cheese from the milk of Cows and Bufallo. But I would not worry about any germs if some body gave me cheese made out of breast milk. Only I think it is a stupid man who has cheese made out of the breast milk of his wife. If she was my wife I'd have her breast feed me if she has any surplus.

Victoria I do not think Peta is any role Model. They are misguided. They are crying their hearts out because the calves get ganked from their mothers. Calves forget that they had been ganked from their mothers. Their mothers do not even know what humans do when they squeeze their teets. Otherwise they will drink their own milk or the milk of other cows. They see cows being milked. But they do not know what menare doing to the teats of the cows. And Bob Barker is giving money to these idiots. He should have given to ASPCA or to me. I'd have brought cows for distribution of milk to children of poor people.

If I had millions my money would go to animal charites....everything for animals has to be done by people who love them and run primarily on ..donations....I am so glad he is donating...He has been an advocate for spaying and neutering for years ....and we, the people in the animal rescue can turn blue in the face before "a-sholes will get it...but I keep trying and so will bob barker...............

Bob Barker has no heart. He had three girls working on price is right for years. For decades and then he fired them. He used to call them Barker beauties and fired them after they had worked for 20 years on Price is right. He is heartless.

It's Mr. Barker's money and he can do what he wants to do with it. PETA is a great organization that has brought to light the horrors humans have inflicted God's creatures great and small.
Sometimes radical measures are needed.
I am positive that those denouncing his choice of charity would certainly not like anyone telling them what they should do with their money.
