Corey Feldman Grieving 'Tragic Death' of Corey Haim

Corey Haim's longtime friend and frequent co-star Corey Feldman is grieving the "tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul," he said in a statement released Wednesday. Following Haim's untimely death at age 38, Feldman expressed grief at the loss of his "best friend."

"I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face," Feldman said.

The press release continues:

"I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans and, of course, my son, who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."

Haim's troubled relationship with fellow '80s teen star Feldman was documented in the A&E reality show 'The Two Coreys.' During the show, Haim's substance abuse was often a recurring problem between the two actors. After taping the show in 2008, Feldman cut ties with Haim over his personal problems.

"I don't feel that he's a safe person to have around my wife and child at the moment, for a multitude of reasons," Feldman told PEOPLE at the time.

On February 18, however, TMZ cameramen caught Feldman and Haim leaving a restaurant in West Hollywood together, leading many to believe Haim was on the road to recovery. In the video, the two refer to each other as "best friends."

Haim, the former teen idol who rose to fame in 1980s classics 'The Lost Boys,' 'Lucas' and 'License to Drive,' died Wednesday morning of an apparent accidental drug overdose in Burbank, Calif., the LAPD has confirmed. He was 38.

Local news station KTLA is reporting that Haim was found in an Oakwood apartment believed to belong to his mother, who was at home at the time and called emergency responders. TMZ is reporting that four prescription drug bottles were found nearby, and that he had been gripped by flu-like symptoms in recent days.

Coroner Lt. Cheryl MacWillie told reporters that Haim died at 2:15 a.m. at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.

What a shame that those that are so young take for granted the blessings that they were blessed with and use the blessings to destroy thier lives. The rest of us that don't have thier gifted talents but appreciate thier talents - mourn the loss - we would not waste it on drugs.

Corey was to me a teen heartthrob when I was young and I was saddened to hear of his passing. Corey Feldman was a very good friend and tried to help him but wasn't able to get thru to him because of his addictions. My heart goes out to the Haim family and to Feldman for losins his friend. RIP Corey Haim, you will always be in our hearts.

My deepest sympathies to the Haim family and all of Corey's family all over the world. He was a good soul just led astray in the world of fame. I hope he will always be remembered for the love, laughter, and fond memories he has blessed us with in his career. I for one grew up with the "Coreys". I am 36 yrs old and spent many a night in my preteen and teen years dreaming of him. RIP Corey, you will always be the beautiful boy who entertianed us all..............God please wrap him in your arms and let him know how much he was and is loved.

Ok, so we have someone that was a known addict...yet some doctor found it ok to not only give out 1 but 4 prescriptions to the addict...yet go to Costco or Sam's club for groceries and risk being turned away for not having a membership. Does anyone else see what is wrong with this picture???

This is an absolute tragedy, any way you view it, for the Haim family and for all of the fans and people who loved and valued (yes VALUED) the life of a talented and special person such as Corey Haim. We are not privy to the absolute truth regarding the relationship between the two "Coreys", and I believe much of their feuding was marketing hype, designed to draw viewers to the reality show, "The Two Coreys". Who cares? It doesn't matter now, does it? Who was mad at who, who did what, and so on...it does not matter.

This is a sad and horrible loss. Corey Haim will be very missed. He was very loved.

Such a young kid. Beautiful, talented and had such a love for life. Being abused by a powerful Hollywood "movie man" (these guys make you or break you)at such a young age could really mess a kid up, he might even turn to drugs. Imagine that !

I am so sad to hear the news of Corey Haim passing. Im not surprised due to his on again off again drug use. I had hoped that he would recover and get well but people need to want to get better and sometimes people dont see the light until its taken away from them ... He was a great actor Im sure a great person I just wished he saw what it was doing to him Im 32 years old and loved all his movies along with Corey Feldman's. I hasd such a crush on both the Corey's. I dont think Ill ever get over this So many people cared for him just wish he got the help he needed..

We need our friends without them we would be nothing...

Such a sad and tragic ending to a tumultuous life. I feel for these "child" actors. Hollywood can put such tremendous pressures on them. I am sad at the direction his life took, some people will always wrestle with their demons. I feel great sadness for both Corey families! I thought it was a very well thought out and genuine statement By Feldman! I know he will no doubt struggle with the loss of his friend and brother!

I would just like to say how sad I am that Corey has passed. I remember as a young girl how much I loved Corey Haim, I had the biggest crush on him. My heart goes to his family and friends as well as Corey Feldman because I know what it feels like to loose a best friend that you grew up with. Hang in there guys.
