Corey Feldman Grieving 'Tragic Death' of Corey Haim

Corey Haim's longtime friend and frequent co-star Corey Feldman is grieving the "tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul," he said in a statement released Wednesday. Following Haim's
untimely death at age 38, Feldman expressed grief at the loss of his "best friend."
"I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face," Feldman said.

The press release continues:
"I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans and, of course, my son, who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."

Haim's troubled relationship with fellow '80s teen star Feldman was documented in the A&E reality show 'The Two Coreys.' During the show, Haim's substance abuse was often a recurring problem between the two actors. After taping the show in 2008, Feldman cut ties with Haim over his personal problems.

"I don't feel that he's a safe person to have around my wife and child at the moment, for a multitude of reasons," Feldman told
PEOPLE at the time.
On February 18, however,
TMZ cameramen caught Feldman and Haim leaving a restaurant in West Hollywood together, leading many to believe Haim was on the road to recovery. In the video, the two refer to each other as "best friends."
Haim, the former teen idol who rose to fame in 1980s classics 'The Lost Boys,' 'Lucas' and 'License to Drive,' died Wednesday morning of an apparent accidental drug overdose in Burbank, Calif., the LAPD has confirmed. He was 38.
Local news station KTLA is reporting that Haim was found in an Oakwood apartment believed to belong to his mother, who was at home at the time and called emergency responders. TMZ is reporting that four prescription drug bottles were found nearby, and that he had been gripped by flu-like symptoms in recent days.
Coroner Lt. Cheryl MacWillie told reporters that Haim died at 2:15 a.m. at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.

Corey, I will miss you! Thank you for sharing your talent with us. You are a special person and I hope that now you feel at peace. So sorry for your mother. It's a loss that no parent ever wants to endure. But someday you'll be together again. Sleep with the angels, Corey.

I know he felt great friendship for him beyond our understanding!! Feldman had a resposibility to his wife at the time..I know in my heart that Feldman would have done anything....anything, virtually, anything.. for Haim, if he could have. he tried to bring him back, and fix him before. He loved him, and took him in to his home with his wife. Things had changed. He tried to help him. He had to try and help himself. Fieldmen always was his friend. Till the end...

The pharmaceutical industry is loving the drug addiction epidemic. They are making billions off the new prescription drug addicts. They know the numbers, they know what they are producing and there aren't enough hours in the day for the production lines.

And the doctors who are writing these prescriptions know the consequences of what they are doing too. They know these drugs aren't medically necessary yet the continue writing them.

The doctors have sold their souls to the devil. What happened to the doctors who would tell you to take an asiprin and call me in the morning ? The DEA better get a handle on over prescribing doctors. Too many people are dying not just celebrities.

I know what prescription drug addiction looks like. My best friend is one. Those pills are more important than family and friends. She's admitted it. She's one wrong dosage away from overdosing. She's had so many close calls, yet she's not willing to give them up !Shame on her doctor and all the doctors who are doing this to patients....

I lost my older brother 8 years ago when he was only 25. His young life was consumed by the demons of drug addiction and alcoholism. Much like Corey Haim, my brother was turning a corner in his life at the time of his death. His son was 9 months old, and I recall his saying that whenever he looked at him, he just "had to go to work." I watched "The Two Coreys" on A&E a few years ago and wrote a grad school paper on depictions of substance abuse in entertainment media. I feel there is so much stigma that causes people to treat these people like they're simply too weak, selfish, or immature to recover. I strongly urge people to try to fight this stigma--addiction/substance abuse is a DISEASE, triggered by genetic predispositions and physiological factors. People who make fun of those who struggle with addictions are, quite simply, ignorant. When my brother passed, the autopsy came back that he had died from alcohol poisoining, with an enlarged heart and pulmonary edema (like Haim). Much like reports I've heard of Haim, my brother had a fun-loving and gentle soul underneath the facade and hurt himself more than anyone else. People need to reach out to those struggling with an open mind and heart. It won't solve the person's issues and many frustrations will still endure, but just having the person know they're not alone, that you see them as a human being equal to others and worthy of love, can make a huge difference.
