California's attorney general said he believes Corey Haim's tragic death this week is linked to a "illegal and massive prescription-drug ring" already under investigation in the state."Corey Haim's death is yet another tragedy linked to the growing problem of prescription-drug abuse," Attorney General Jerry Brown said Friday, according to CNN. "This problem is increasingly linked to criminal organizations, like the illegal and massive prescription-drug ring under investigation."
Even though the coroner has not ruled on what killed Haim on Wednesday, Brown's office says the the former child star's death has already played a part in their ongoing investigation into illegal prescriptions outside of Los Angeles.
The statement says "an unauthorized prescription under the former child star's name that was found during an ongoing investigation of fraudulent prescription-drug pads ordered from a vendor in San Diego."
Brown said the ring uses stolen doctor's identities to order prescription-drug pads that are used to write counterfeit prescriptions.

This is just the tip of the prescription-drug iceburg. We may see a health disaster when all these kids taking oxy's, somas, xanax, percodans, etc. have health melt-downs in a few years. It's already happening, really.

"LEGAL" PRESCRIPTION DRUGS kill many, many more people than the "ILEGAL" ones !!! Maybe it's about time the families of the victims TAKE the CRIMINALS 2 COURT ! That's the ONLY way 2 "slow down" the death rate, believe it or not !

and this "prescription drug" abuse is something new ?? its the doctors that prescribe them...period...this generation will believe they are the inovators but for those from yester year we have elvis as our tragic example of the same and what over 30 years ago ? what a shame it ain't only hollywood its happening in families all across the country....pain meds...the new "in" drug...so sad

I knew someone who bought pads from a doctor in NY and would then write their own scripts and that was in the 70's. And even though I knew that this was happening back then it just never ocurred to me that, that kind of thing was still happening.

No kidding. Who would think you need to get a hold of some doc's script pads, when spam abounds from Canadian pharmacies trying to push drugs on you?
The tragedy is, because of these abusers of drugs, a regular person cannot get strong painpills, because doctors know some drugs are addictive. These people who take those pills for pleasure make it hard for others who need them for pain.

You are absolutely...CORRECT!!
Yea, lets legalize pot and put some real,I mean real, penalties on the rest of the crap out there !!! The Mexicans are bringing that crap up here by the boat loads ,their should be no sympathy for these guys, they should be shot on site !!!!!and as soon as that word got back to Mexico I promise the drugs would either stop or slow down dramatically, America is too soft on them !Shoot em !!!

His death may be linked to, "illegal and massive prescription-drug ring" as the article states but no one was forcing him to take them either. Ultimately, we are the ones responsible for our own behaviors and lifestyles. Tragic yes, but do I feel sorry for someone who swallowed pills like they were Halloween candy? No.

the mexican government is rotten to the core and probably gets paid by the drug trade.. the us government is incapable to take needed urgent measures to stop the border wars.... our troops are thousands of miles away chasing unknown enemies instead of chasing criminals on the mexican border. do we have problems here ???????

ALL of Mexico is rotten to the core. I just came home from a trip there......NEVER has I seen a population anywhere in the world that is so conniiving, devious and corrupt.
Kudos to our government for doing such a great job keeping this filth out of the US. Sarcasm intended. F U Mexicans
Whether the drugs were gotten illegally or not doesn't change the fact that Corey Haim was a druggie. Plain and simple.

That reminds me, I was in the restroom the other day and the toilet was out of order, so I had to take a crap in the urinal.

Unless you've walked a mile in his shoes, or those of ANY addict, you cannot possibly understand how hard it is to quit. It's the worst thing ever ..... yet oxy's, soma, valium, etc are easier to get than help with kicking them. Sad, but true. Rehab is not cheap. It may be worth it yes, but if you can't afford it then what do you do? You just keep scrounging for money everyday to get your fix so you can function and not get sick.

Here's a hint. DON'T START IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Like I said, MR. CLEAN, unless you've personally been there, you have no idea.
the probelem here is "Personal Responsibility" Todays kids are raised to think that everything that happens to them is allways someone elses faulut an dthey should not feel responsible for anything.

Nixon's silly War On Drugs has done nothing but proliferate drug usage over the past 45 years. There is most definately a big blck market for painkillers. No S**t! Plus, for all we know maybe Corey Haim had some affliction that caused chronic pain. I'm tired of doctors being afraid to prescibe because the DEA keeps tabs on Doctors who prescribe controlled substances. If they go over limit they could have their liscence to practice pulled. I'm amazed how easily you can get a hold of these substances illegally. Just go to any club or your own kids parties. People bring them here from Canada, where the stuff is legally sold over the counter, too.
