Autopsy Finds Corey Haim Died Of Pulmonary Congestion, Says His Mom

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Corey Haim's mother, Judy Haim, says an autopsy found the 38-year-old actor had an enlarged heart along with the water in his lungs. Haim said she received a call from the L.A. County Coroner's Office, who told her that an autopsy found her son had an enlarged heart and his lungs were filled with water. His cause of death was due to pulmonary congestion.

The Coroner's Office said that prescription bottles containing four different medications were taken from his room, but would not confirm if the medications were found in his body. Haim will be buried in Toronto, Ontario, where he was born, the late actor's manager, Marc Haislip, confirmed to Us Weekly.

Haim, the former teen idol who rose to fame in 1980s classics 'The Lost Boys' and 'Lucas,' died Wednesday morning of an apparent drug overdose in Burbank, Calif., the LAPD has confirmed. He was 38. Haim collapsed in the Oakwood apartment belonging to his mother, who was at home at the time and called 911.

The final cause of death has been deferred pending toxicology and histopathology testing. The final report is expected in six to eight weeks.

Haim's troubled relationship with fellow '80s teen star Corey Feldman was documented in the A&E reality show 'The Two Coreys.' During the show, Haim's substance abuse was often a recurring problem between the two actors. After taping the show in 2008, Feldman cut ties with Haim over his personal problems. "I don't feel that he's a safe person to have around my wife and child at the moment, for a multitude of reasons," Feldman told PEOPLE at the time.

Recently, they patched up their friendship and, not surprisingly, Feldman is devastated by the news of Haim's death.

"This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family and best friend," he writes in a statement, later adding, "I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."

TMZ reports that four pill bottles were found in the apartment where Haim collapsed and the same doctor prescribed all four medications just days before Haim died. None were illicit drugs. There is no evidence of foul play and the overdose appears to have been accidental.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ the pill bottles retrieved from the apartment of Haim's mother are hydrocodone (Vicodin), diazepam (Valium), haloperidol (an antipsychotic med) and Soma (a muscle relaxer).

Before he stumbled in front of his mother at her Los Angeles apartment early Wednesday morning, Corey Haim "was running a fever" of 99 to 101, his agent Mark Heaslip said on CBS' 'The Early Show' Thursday. "He was laying in bed. And that night, he went to sleep, and he asked his mom to come into the room because he was having breathing problems," Heaslip said.

Corey was a very cool actor.It is a shame that nobody could catch in time.Pulmonary edema could of played a part in his health.

It may not have been an "overdose", per se - he may very well have been taking the meds as prescribed. But, the cardiomyopathy - at age 38, was certainly the result of chronic drug abuse. Cardiomyopathy + respiratory infection + opiates and muscle relaxants (even in proper doses) = cardiac / respiratory failure, unfortunately. Very sad.

WRONG!! Yes the report does say he had pulmonary congestion but NO death certificate has been signed and NO CAUSE of death has been SAID. They are waiting till the toxicology report is sent back. In other words they are waiting to see if drugs caused the pulmonary congestion which it can. So his mom is lying and someone is not doing their homework right at Popeater.SHAME on you popeater for not reporting correctly. ITS all over news about waiting for the toxicology report. SHEESH

This article also says they are waiting on the toxicology report for a final cause of death. So where is the incorrect information?

I KNOW ABOUT DRUGS IN THE SYSTEM AND ITS AFFECT ON THE HUMAN BODY. FOR YEARS THIS YOUNG MAN DID DAMAGE TO HIS BODY WITH DRUGS. THE DRUGS MY DEAR ARE STILL GOING STRONG IN CORYS BODY. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT CORY KILLED HIMSELF. UNLESS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT LONG TERM DRUG ABUSE CAN DO EVENTUNALLY TO THE HUMAN BODY. THINK ABOUT.

Are you a Doctor Lisa K???? Popeater is reporting on the information that they have. They have not said a cause of death nor have they said it was due to drugs. Drugs have played a major part of Coreys life and everyone knows it. Yes it is a shame such a talented young actor is dead. Nothing is being said that everyone doesn't already think. Drugs can lead to pulmonary congestion along with an illness that is present. Drugs whether prescription or street do damage to the heart and cause congestion and fluid buildup. I wish for his mothers sake it is not due to this but in all reality it probably does.....Let the news people report on the situation, could you do any better??? doubtful.....

I agree that we need to wait for the OFFICIAL autopsy report before deciding that Corey died of an overdose. On the other hand, the pulmonary congestion can be caused by an overdose of narcotics. I know this because my sister died 3 years ago of a drug overdose. The coroner told me that the narcotics suppress the ability to breathe and fluid builds up in the lungs, usually to the point that the capillaries in the lungs will rupture from the fluid pressure. I pray for Corey's family that he had recovered from his addictions, and his death was not due to drugs. My prayers are with his family

He just wanted out. MOney seems so important but when you don't have it or someone willing to support you as you go down then it is end of game. He did everything to take his life without pulling the trigger. You can look into those blue eyes and see everything. They say I am letting go it is over! God Bless Him!

If you had this years cold, then you'd know it came with severe congestive symptoms, it woke me up several times through the night over the past two weeks, coughing huge ammounts of plegm. Its very likely that if he was taking valium and soma than its possible he was too drowsy to evacuate the fluid in his lungs, which caused him to drown in in own fluids and at the least he wouldn't get enough oxygen in his blood to support his brain and organs

I do agree. I am also sitting here looking at my,not 4 bottles of medication, but 8 bottles of medication that I take daily. If I were famous, I do wonder what the healines would be on me. Too many are thinking that they know the answers from something that they read or heard. Not a good way to gain info or insight. We do not know they why of the medications all we know at this point is that they were not street drugs. The labwork will give the final answer on the death but I do think that his mom is right and not a liar on what she said she has been told the cause of death is. Also, having lived for years in the polution of the LA area and knowing the damage it did to my lungs it came as no surprise to read that. I had to leave due to the polution after I lost a lung to a fungal infestation.
