Conan O'Brien Tickets Were the Best Impulse Buy

Within minutes of Conan O'Brien announcing he'd be headlining his own comedy tour, which even he describes as "half-assed," my credit card was drawn so fast the Lone Ranger would be impressed. Although I have no idea what I've gotten myself into, these tickets are not leaving me with the regret I usually feel after an impulse purchase. Since his departure from NBC, O'Brien's stock has gone up, and he's worth every cent of the millions Americans poured into ticket sales -- selling out venues like Radio City Music Hall in New York. With no warning or formal press release, O'Brien went directly to Twitter to break the news of his 'Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour.' "Hey Internet: I'm headed to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour," he wrote. "I repeat: It's half-assed."

Finally, the wait was over: We could see the man himself in person, without the filter that was NBC threatening to pull him off the stage. But had we just bought into another gimmick? While I had watched O'Brien's 'Tonight Show,' I was never a die-hard fan. Yet, after watching the late-night show juggle and the drama that followed, I suddenly was pulling for him and joining Team CoCo. Perhaps we didn't know what we had until it was gone, as the suspense has been building since he stepped out of the 'Tonight Show' spotlight. This tour has peaked our curiosity.

The title itself implies the tour will also be sending a blunt message about how O'Brien feels about his departure from 'Tonight Show.' It clearly refers to his settlement with NBC, which included a provision that he cannot appear on television again until after Sept. 1. (But let's not forget, that provision also included a healthy payout of an estimated $32.5 million.) Oh the drama!

Since purchasing my ticket, several people have asked, "So what is Conan doing exactly?" My response proved my cluelessness: "Some live comedy tour, with music and possibly his side-kick Andy Richter will be there." Yeah, what exactly had I got myself into? When I buy shoes, I'm trying on a couple sizes, walking around the store trying to imagine how much they'll hurt after a night of dancing. But with O'Brien, who needed all those questions? I needed those tickets!

Honestly, the purchase was all about instinct and not wanting to be left out of the water cooler talk once he hits the road.

Until his June 2 show at New York's Radio City Music Hall, I'll have to wait and see what show stopping stunts he'll pull off and if his infamous bear will be gracing the stage. There are no more details on what will actually be included in the live show (except music will obviously be involved and that Andy Richter will likely be there). Yet, curiosity alone was enough to hook me (and millions of other fans). Finally, we were getting a chance to see O'Brien, uncensored and in person.

The world is a stage, and we're waiting for the ultimate in-your-face comeback. In Conan, we trust.

Worth it! When he took his Late Night shows on the road (LA, San Fran, Chicago, Toronto, etc.) it was spectacular.

I got my tickets, thank God. Most places, if not all, are already sold out. I'm so very excited to see him live again. I got to see him in San Francisco and on the Tonight Show and I expect for this show to be the best of all three. He won't have to worry about censors. I also hope he plays some guitar.

I heard that the money from the tour will be going to his ex-employees. Can you verify this, Amber?

Unfortunately, he wasn't funny enough to draw a large enough television audience when he was
the responsible party. God bless him, I can't imagine that he'll do any better on a different network. He really doesn't have to work again, and his kids-kids will still be taken care of, not
a bad deal.

the truth is, if you don't get Conan's humor, you must be old or a prude. I've been watching Conan since his start - he gets ratings, but maybe he should go back to his later time slot when you old folks are fast asleep.
