Katherine Heigl Discharged From 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Although
Katherine Heigl was scheduled to return to the 'Grey's Anatomy' set March 1 after three months of maternity leave, "she was not there," a source tells
PEOPLE.
Sources told
EW's Michael Ausiello that 'Anatomy' creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release Heigl from her contract. ABC Studios and Heigl's reps will then hash out a final exit agreement.
According to one EW source, Heigl "was at home and ready to return to work." Heigl had been home taking care of her new baby, Naleigh, whom she and husband Josh Kelley adopted from South Korea. The special-needs child "was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign," Heigl, 30, said when announcing the news of her adoption on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' back in September.
But another source adds that "talks between Heigl and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now as opposed to at the end of the season."
As a result, Heigl is not expected to return to the 'Grey's' set, which means her final episode as Izzie has already aired.
This comes after a tumultuous few seasons for Heigl.
In 2007, Heigl found herself in the middle of the TR Knight/Isaiah Washington feud when she publicly dissed Washington for repeating the F word at the Golden Globes.
Then in 2008, Heigl took a swipe at the series' writers when she announced that she wasn't entering the Emmy race because she "did not feel [she] was given the material... to warrant a nomination."

People are so ignorent! Maternity leave is even MORE important for adoptive parents (especially internationally adopted kids who are not newborns) because they missed out on prenatal bonding time and the start of attachment that occurs from birth. m There is a huge adjustment period for parents after the brth OR adoption of a child, particularly a special needs child GRRRRRRR dumb people suck!
They mentioned this was a "special needs" child. Not sure what these needs are, but probably medical.
shes an idiot

Good riddance. I could not stand her whining any more! She was ruining the show, both on and off screen. And that goes for that other crybaby, TR Knight. Now can we PLEASE get Issiah Washington back?

Ppl can be so rediculous at times... FLMA gives parents adopted or natural to take time off to take care of ANY family member... regardless of that family members age... Maternity leave and paternity leave gives the adopted or natural parents leave to take care of their infant for the purposes of bonding for up to 12 weeks.

This show went from being one of the best to one of the worst. The storylines are horrible and dont even get me started on the lesbian thing.Preston Burke, George O'Malley and Izzie Stevens were an amazing part of the storyline, but the new people added on do not have any chemistry with each other. The show is just not the same. I predict this will be the last year.

Can I say how glad I am her character is leaving the show...YEAH!!! Katherine Heigl is a wonderful actress but her character, Izzie, was too draining and boring. I wish TK Knight had chosen to stay, he was a good part of the cast...

To coin some old phrases, Katherine was a little too big for her britches and cooked her own goose. I would guess that most actors in her position would have been thanking their lucky stars that they finally made it and then there's her. Guess what Katherine, you're just not that important.

Really? "Cooked her own goose"? She's doing MOVIES! How does that "cook her own goose"? Just in case you aren't aware of it HOLLY, movie actors make MORE than television actors, so please explain to me just exactly where she went wrong.
To semi coin YOUR phrase, "Holly, you just aren't that smart".
Also, for all of you who are letting your JEALOUSY get the better of you, I doubt that she gives a rats behind what you think of her! She's laughing all the way to the BANK!
Yes, it was one of the best shows to look forward during the week. The story lines have gone haywire !! With or Without T.K.Knight & K. Heigl.
The Show has lost me, a long time ago !!!

The whole show blows, they should all go away.

You forget that this child has special needs, that requires a lot of attention and she would still need to bond with an adopted child. She may not should have said what she did about the material but they need to get over it and say she's sorry and continue on, ON the show and do movie if she wants.

Heigl is a much better actress than Ellen Pompeo who plays Grey.
Pompeo personality is nil and boring. Izzie/Heigl is more appealing and a far better actress. Grey's Anatomy has lost its edge with the loss of TK Knight and Isiah Washington and now Heigl, I think the show will totally sink.

They should get rid of that asian chick instead. She's fugly and a pain in the butt, plus she can't act. How did she ever get parts on TV anyway? They must have a recurring role for fugly chicks, lol.

Yeah....much to do about nothing....
Please bring Isiah Washington back, now that would be interesting.

Love the show but I must say I don't miss Izzy. Her character is much too soft and mushy for a doctor....she would never make it. I would prefer to see TR Knight and Isiah Washington back on the show....I just loved George's character. I would also like to se more of the cases and less of the sexual escapades...sometimes just the allusion is more exciting.

She is so ungrateful. Without this show she would not ne where she is today. Needs to keep her big, opinionated mouth shut. Davis Caruso anyone????

As nuch as she was a pain she did add to the show. I think she will be missed. Now with Knight and Washington gone i don't think the show will continue to be the hit that it has been in the past. Good-bye Izzie and good luck...
