Katherine Heigl Discharged From 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Although
Katherine Heigl was scheduled to return to the 'Grey's Anatomy' set March 1 after three months of maternity leave, "she was not there," a source tells
PEOPLE.
Sources told
EW's Michael Ausiello that 'Anatomy' creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release Heigl from her contract. ABC Studios and Heigl's reps will then hash out a final exit agreement.
According to one EW source, Heigl "was at home and ready to return to work." Heigl had been home taking care of her new baby, Naleigh, whom she and husband Josh Kelley adopted from South Korea. The special-needs child "was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign," Heigl, 30, said when announcing the news of her adoption on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' back in September.
But another source adds that "talks between Heigl and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now as opposed to at the end of the season."
As a result, Heigl is not expected to return to the 'Grey's' set, which means her final episode as Izzie has already aired.
This comes after a tumultuous few seasons for Heigl.
In 2007, Heigl found herself in the middle of the TR Knight/Isaiah Washington feud when she publicly dissed Washington for repeating the F word at the Golden Globes.
Then in 2008, Heigl took a swipe at the series' writers when she announced that she wasn't entering the Emmy race because she "did not feel [she] was given the material... to warrant a nomination."

Can you say Shelley Long? Hope she saved up some money because if you stick a fork in her you will discover she is done! I never understood how she got so much attention from a hack job on a hack show. Not so great looking (Charlize Theron she is not), no charm or spark, and a marginal at best actress. I guess a publicist worked some kind of voodoo.

Now she can concentrate on finding really good movie roles. She was meant for the big screen. Anyone can do TV.

Big mistake. Izzy was the best character on the show and she
and the character of Alex had lots of chrisma together.

I didn't know she was off the show on maternaty leave. They should bring back Dr. Burk. sw

I liked her. She is beautiful. I hope she is very happy with her new little child and she did need some time to be with her baby. I think there are so many overworked words like "bonding" and words like that but she needed some mommy time. Good luck to her in the future. She did some darn fine acting, esp. when Denny died. She was GREAT!! Good luck Miss Izzy to you and your family!!

I'm frankly quite TIRED of hearing will Katherine return or not ,every year. She is part of an ENSEMBLE cast, not the only STAR.Let her go make sequels, "28 Dresses" ,or "Knocked Up 2".Does she remember "Bride Of Chucky"?Lets see if she can Heigl herself a better job.

I think she is a prime example of don't judge a book by its cover. Heigl abandoned a good show and its viewers to do her own thing and I have no sympathy for her whatsoever.

I thought she was gone a long time ago, no great loss.

I'm sorry to see Izzy go. She was the best part of Grey's. I was only watching to see what happened with Izzy. Now I have no reason to watch.

She has been trying and wanting to get off that show forever. She is ready to make a permanent move to movies.

Well now I no longer have much of a reason to watch Grey's, I loved Katherine in it. And by the way; that red headed guy who plays a surgen should be cast as that ARTIST that he so looks like, he's a good actor by the way I've seen him other things.

Lose Heigl; lose viewers. Result- cancellation

Did they finally run out of people for her to screw? Not even a DEAD guy was safe. Everytime the writers dion't have an idea (and they haven't had one for quite a while) they stick her in the sack with somebody new. BORING! If I wanted this crap, I would watch daytime soaps.

don't even watch it anymore..... she should have gone the first time they talked about it.. i don't see any movie career for her either, she sucked in the movies she already did..... oh well just another hype of the time.......

Because of this show I switched careers to work in a hospital. I thought I would be hooking up with all kinds of HOT nurses and doctors. Sad to say I'm only washing bed pans and cleaning up vomit. Don't fall for it like I did. I had so much before.

She is pretty no doubt about that but material or not she is a take or leave actress. When she tries to act she overacts. She is just better off sitting pretty and nodding her head.

Thank goodness, now my husband will watch the show with me.

This show is still on TV?

I liked Izzy and I liked her last story line however she's been gone for most of the season and I really thought she (rather than TR Knight) was the one leaving so I've already moved on. It should be pretty easy to write her out. I wish her well however she is wading in a crowded pool (type of movies she does).

Yea, now Izzie is gone for GOOD. Izzie thought the show was based on her life. Now Heigl can be the star of her own life. Being a mother is not easy and never easy to a special needs child.
