Katherine Heigl Discharged From 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Although Katherine Heigl was scheduled to return to the 'Grey's Anatomy' set March 1 after three months of maternity leave, "she was not there," a source tells PEOPLE.

Sources told EW's Michael Ausiello that 'Anatomy' creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release Heigl from her contract. ABC Studios and Heigl's reps will then hash out a final exit agreement.

According to one EW source, Heigl "was at home and ready to return to work." Heigl had been home taking care of her new baby, Naleigh, whom she and husband Josh Kelley adopted from South Korea. The special-needs child "was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign," Heigl, 30, said when announcing the news of her adoption on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' back in September.

But another source adds that "talks between Heigl and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now as opposed to at the end of the season."

As a result, Heigl is not expected to return to the 'Grey's' set, which means her final episode as Izzie has already aired.

This comes after a tumultuous few seasons for Heigl.

In 2007, Heigl found herself in the middle of the TR Knight/Isaiah Washington feud when she publicly dissed Washington for repeating the F word at the Golden Globes.

Then in 2008, Heigl took a swipe at the series' writers when she announced that she wasn't entering the Emmy race because she "did not feel [she] was given the material... to warrant a nomination."

Now that they are both gone, I hope this will clear the way for
Isiah W#ashington to return he had a really good part and he never did really tie up the loose ends with his bride to be and it also put Dianne Carroll out of areally good part. I clearly remembered him stepping up to the mike and saying he did not call
T.R. Knight the F word, even though I believe he shouldn't have said any thing I would be glad to see him back. They had some steamy love scenes.

Kathryn is physically very attractive. Izzy was an OTT drama queen who had more negative events in her life than any human I've ever known, not to mention how easily she fell in love with anyone who showed her the slightest attention. The character was irritating with all the crying fits she went on.

Her personal part in the Isaiah/TR situation earned her the roller coaster life of Izzy and an escort out the door. I believe that TR misunderstood what happened and made himself the focus of attention. Burke was the better character in the show, and Isaiah is absolutely the better actor.

Someday they will have everyone on the show DO everyone on the show and have nothing left. Meredith is twisted and supposed to be the star of the show? Give me a break. Still trying to see just what is so special about her. The only thing good about it all was Izzy's dead boyfriend. He's hot. The show is on a downward spiral and they need to turn it around with some substantial plot and writing, instead of all of them being terminally horny.

Finally.....glad she's gone. Talk about an irritating character. After she won the award she didn't deserve, her acting became awful. I liked her before that, but she's been way overrated. She's mediocre at best. Bring Burke back!
