Elton John Reveals Ex 'Threw Himself Under a Truck'

Before he settled down with David Furnish, rock legend Elton John dated a man that he now reveals committed suicide while they were still together. "Years back I had a relationship, and I had absolutely no idea in the world he was going to do this ... he threw himself under a truck," John told the Sunday Telegraph. "There was so much grief."

The 62-year-old singer isn't naming the former boyfriend or even hinting as to when the death occurred. Furnish tells the paper that the man was deeply religious and racked with guilt over his sexuality.

"He was so tortured by the conflicting views between his sexuality and his strong religious beliefs that he chose to take his own life," he said. "It is very sad indeed."

The star's lingering grief inspired him to back a just-opened Broadway play that touches on a similar subject, though in the form of a comedy. 'Next Fall' is about two gay men -- one of them is a Christian from the southern United States who believes homosexuality as a sin, and the other is an agnostic. A serious accident brings them together.

"It's the right timing for this," said Furnish. "The religious divide between Right and Left has gotten wider, and so the rights of gay people never got back to where it was heading."

And that's a bad picture of Elton, he doesn't look that old.
