Weight Loss Company Sees 'Large Increase in Sales' After Appealing to Gabourey Sidibe
There has been a big debate about whether Gabourey Sidibe's weight will hamper her future career, despite her recent Oscar nomination.
Now, one weight loss company has written a letter to the 'Precious' star, telling her she needs to worry about her health -- not her image,
TMZ reports. AcaiSupply.com has offered the actress a one-year's supply of their product to help her lose weight.
AcaiSupply's publicist Kevin Blatt tells
PopEater, "We have seen a large increase in sales today, but we have not yet heard from Ms. Sidibe. We are really hoping to. We want to help her maintain a healthy lifestyle. She has amazing potential, Oprah believes in her, and she could someday be on that stage accepting an Oscar. We can only put it out there for her, we hope she takes us up on our offer."
"The only way you can reach your goal of someday winning that Oscar is by being active, fit and most of all, healthy!" the CEO wrote to Sidibe.
Sidibe became the toast of Hollywood with her role as the titular character in 'Precious,' which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. PopEater's own
Rob Shuter chatted with Joy Behar about the actress' career, telling Joy that casting directors don't see much down the road for Sidibe. As Behar points out, Nikki Blonsky received high praise for her turn in 'Hairspray,' but the full-figured girl hasn't had work since.
Last week, Howard Stern ranted that Sidibe would never get another movie role because of her weight. "The point I was trying to make is that obesity in this country is out of control. What's really sad is that you do see people now saying it's OK to be this heavy, you have to love your own body, and you have to embrace it," he said.
"The reason Sidibe didn't win the award is because there wasn't as much acting except walking around like in a catatonic state," he continued. "It was more about her physical appearance that actually made her great in that movie. There really wasn't much acting involved. She was more of a prop."

I would love to see Gabby get some really good roles A young black actress with such talent!! But her roles will be limited to be sure. It is not just the "skinny think" of hollywood I refer to. I looove all the full figured women that are now on the screen....queen latifa for instance. But gabbys weight cannot possibly be healthy for her. I think Nutri-System should appeal to her.....well, either way I wish her well and wish people would not be so mean.

I think her role should not be limited. There are alot of heavy people in the world and she will just represent them. They are human too!
I think Miss Gabby needs to lose weight and pull herself away from the tables the clothes that she wears does not look attractive on her she may be intelligent but she needs to think about her health that is what is important and to stand and grin in front of the cameras is something awful God Bless Her!!!

Why are you all concerned about her weight so much, is she taking away food from your tables? I am sure she did not get this way overnight and that you all seem to have strength and access to internet so she is not your concern. She has been alive for this long and I am sure she has a mission that will keep her alive for years beyond those who believe the only thing that can be verified is that she is overweight. She moves around very well and has a healthy sense about herself. She does not hide in a moo moo or underneath the stairs, perhaps a young African American woman who is not a size 0 and who believes in herself is not popular or warranted. Shame on all of you for making a suggestion that she is the sum total of the weight YOU deem she carrying without her permission and that it grossly effects her health. If this were true than I am sure every oversized woman and man in the South should be taken out and shot on site. There are millions of them and leave her alone.

She's very sweet, and a great actress- but she is overweight...and not just a little! She should lose some for herself, and her future! I'd like her to be around for a long time...and NOT as a size ZERO! When I was young size 5 was the smallest in shops! How about a 2x for a target weight?
The fat is a big part of her game....why would she lose it? Then all she would be another thin actress out of work.
Very well said Aissatou! I agree 100%
Chill Out!!! She looks Horrible !!!
This girl will definitely have a hard time getting work. I'm not being cruel. This is a fact. People do not identify with huge, overweight women, even if they are obese themselves. People want to identify with beautiful, svelte, in-shape actors in roles that they will have more of an understanding of the message. This Oscar nomination for this girl will be the last she sees of H-wood unless she loses weight. I'm not saying she needs to get to a size 2, but she's not the image of the sort of person people will identify with. Sorry, but true.

But if, and when, she loses the weight, she'll just be another young black actress looking for work. Sorta like a Star Jones, but without the young part.
I think she should try to lose some weight, but hate that people bash her for her size. I have lost 110 lbs and feel much better. I had sleep apnea which is now gone - I really am glad of that because I hated sleeping with that machine! It's better for my diabetes as well. My doctors have decreased my meds, which is terrific. Overweight can increase the risk of diabetes.
I should have lost this weight years ago, and am so glad I finally did! It's very hard to do, and keeping it off is a constant battle. Gabouray needs to want this for herself before it will really work for her. Look at how hard Oprah struggles with her weight. I hope she does well in her career, and that we see her in more movies!

She did good on her first acting role, but I'm glad some people are keeping it real by expressing their concern for her health. And, I don't want other young females to think it's now ok to be over weigt like her. The industry is going to capitalize on her popularity as long as they can. If she bombs in her next role, she will be made fun of possibly for the rest of her life. I think she's just pretending to be ok with her weight. Monique did that too and now I hope Monique is keeping it real with this young lady.

She is, like Oprah, Queen Latifah, and Anna Nicole Smith, a very pretty, very large woman who does, indeed, have a future in Hollywood. More women can relate to her than can relate to Barbie. And no, at 5'8" and 125 pounds, I am NOT overweight.

On the Oprah Winfrey show Gaby said she is happy with who she is and where she is at. It is up to her if she feels like losing the extra weight. She is a wonderful young lady and feels very confident about herself . So she should be left alone to worry about what she wants to do,people need to stop being so critical of her.

Yes, Gabby is a bit over weight. Yes, it would be a good gesture for someone to help her lose some of the weight, so she can live a long life making some more great films. No reason for anyone to criticize her because of her weight. That does not change who she is. She is a great actress.

"A BIT" overwieght?? Don't be rediculous! She wouldn't be able to walk if she gained another pound!! And she'll never get another role other than a 'fat lady"
Yes, Gabby is heavy but her acting skills are phenomenal and I believe she could still get a role in another movie, however she may be type cast due to her weight. It does not bother me if someone is overweight or how they look, but what worries me for her is the fact that she won't live much longer at the weight is is now. She will have terrible health problems and if she could lose weight now while she is young which is much easier than when she hits her 30's and her metabolism shuts down. I think she should join Jenny Craig instead of Acsai though. She can be a great role model for others as well as getting paid to lose weight. She is a beautiful person and should notbe made to feel like she has to be a Hollywood STARVING (skinny) ACTOR to get roles in the movies. I don't think America is as judgemental as the Hollywood crowd. We appreciate great talent more than we do looks on the red carpet.

Yes, she very well may be type-casted. John Candy is a good example of that and he is no longer with us. He was a great actor, and very funny guy. She seems like a sweet person and I think she is bright enough to know she is severely overweight. She will decide her own future and it is for her to decide....
It probably would be a good thing if Gabby were to lose some weight for health reasons, but as far as people not relating to someone her size, there are plenty of overweight girls out there who certainly would. And, those who aren't overweight, but have not necessarily achieved what they would like in their lives can look at her and think if she can achieve all she has, they can, too. People who snipe at her because she's heavy certainly won't help the situation and they should SHUT UP!!
