Gisele Bundchen Meditated Through Son's Birth
Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady welcomed their first son together in December, and now, in a candid interview with Vogue (on newsstands March 23), the model is opening up and sharing intimate details about the birth of her baby boy, Benjamin Rein. The first-time mother also reveals that she meditated through the birth and "felt like E.T" the first time she stepped in front of the camera after giving birth. "For the first time, I think I actually saw me -- the inside -- instead of the persona," she says.
Bundchen also shows off her post-pregnancy bod -- complete with a
very flat stomach. "I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds," she admits.
Why she had her son at home [with a midwife on hand] instead of at the hospital: "I wanted to experience the transformation... It was the most amazing experience of my life, feeling him come through my body. And once he was born, I never felt so empowered as looking at him and thinking, 'Oh, my God, we did it together!'"
Gisele on her baby's name, Benjamin Rein: "I wanted him to be called River because I wanted something always flowing, immortal. My husband said, 'There's no way we're going to call him River.' But my father's name is Reinoldo, so it's a homage to him. And it's like water."
On staying in shape while pregnant: "I did kung fu up until two weeks before Benjamin was born, and yoga three days a week. I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds."
On keeping out of the public eye: "I felt like my pregnancy was a sacred moment for me. I stayed in Boston and I didn't work apart from the contracts I have, and then I only let them use my face."
On her first time behind the camera since her son was born: "I got to the studio and I felt like I was E.T. -- whoa, what's going on? Hair and makeup? I hadn't looked at myself in a mirror for a month and a half. Usually, as I walk through the door into that atmosphere, I already feel different. There's a button that goes On and I'm On. And when I go On, there is almost no me; there is just a character who is doing all this. This time it wasn't like that. For the first time, I think I actually saw me -- the inside -- instead of the persona."

She probably looked like a cow. That's why she was never pictured with her GARBAGE DISPOSAL belly.

Hey Giselle-- none of us give a flying rat's ass! Are we all supposed to believe you sat there glowing like Mother Theresa while you were squeezing a kid out? Whateva, B*I*A*T*C*H!!!!!

this just goes to the point that women who dont lose the baby weight after they have their childre are just plain lazy and dont want to exert themselves. it is easier to just stuff their faces and than to exert themselves and drop the weight

YOU must be a mother...
So it's her problem that it didn't work out with Brady and Bridget? An accidental pregnancy is no reason for a couple to stay together... they were done and over with. AND she adores Brady's other son.
But I agree... she needs to get off her pedestal

No, it goes to show that if you are fit before you're pregnant you will try and stay fit afterwards. And if you're a fat, lazy, pig before you're pregnant, you may just turn into a cow.
Anyway she didn't invent giving birth. I felt the same way after I had my daughter by natural birth with no drugs and my husband said, "Look around, people have been having babies for centuries." I had to laugh about how true his statement was.

She never called anyone "garbage disposals". And, she married Tom after his ex-girlfriend had the baby, not while she was pregnant.

I turned 39 the week following the birth of my first child. I had a FLAT STOMACH in no time....less than three to four months. I guess because "I didn't turn into a human garbage disposal." THAT WAS SO STUPID OF THAT WOMAN GISELLE BITHCHON to say. How old is that woman? She is not all that....just because she parades around in underwear and swimwear and she was given a boy's body with heigth. She does look like ET...hahahahahhaaa

TOM BRADY ALREADY HAS A BEAUTIFUL SON WITH BRIDGET MOYNAHAN. GISELLE WOULD LIKE EVERYONE TO FORGET THAT FACT. WHILE BRIDGET MOYNAHAN TAKES GREAT PAINS TO PROTECT HER SON, WHEN TOM HAD A VISITATION WITH HIS SON, GISELLE PARADED HIM AROUND & PHOTOS WERE TAKEN; SHE WAS CRITICIZED FOR "USING" TOM'S FIRST-BORN SON FOR HER OWN PURPOSES - TO GET ON BRIDGET'S CASE! PERSONALLY, DON'T CARE ABOUT GISELLE. BRADY LEFT A GREAT WOMAN, BRIDGET, WHAT A NUMBNUT!

typical so called star bragging about a perfect pregnancy and delivery just wait till Gisele goes through a loss as many other bigger stars have through the years that including some former academy award winners Vivien Leigh and Joanne Woodward for example of course their losses occoured when these things were covered up by the studios Ms Leighs two miscarriages with Laurence Olivier happened in between her best actress oscar wins for Gone With The Wind & A Streetcar Named Desirel and Miss Woodwards happened six weeks before she won her academy award for best actress for The Three Faces Of Eve during her & Paul Newman's Honeymoon but thankfully they had three daughters later whom she loves dearly so don't take what Gisele says so seriously

Ok...So I came across these posts long after this was"current" news. I actually read this article when I recieved this magazine. Everyone posting needs to remember that your opinions are about YOU and have nothing to do with anyone else. Gisele is obviously proud of working her a*s off (which is much harder than say.....NOT working your a*s off) during her pregnancy. You should know that I am currently pregnant AND I have experienced a late miscarriage. For someone to suggest she speaks from a nieve place because she has not experienced the pain of a loss is TOTAL BS!! I am very happy to know that she was able to enjoy most of her pregnancy and was empowered by her birth experience. I also know that when people express negative opinions they are usually speaking from an insecure place. Being in the medical field I have an educated opinion that supports her garbage disposal statement. It is selfish of those who use pregnancy as an excuse to be less active and eat whatever they want. Maternal obesity and excessive weight gain during pregnancy causes many problems for the growing fetus including increased risk for obesity, diabetes, cancers, heart conditions and many more. So when you attack other women for being proud of using an admirable amount of self control during pregnancy and childbirth, what you are really saying is that you feel guilty for your own choices. Own your decisons and take responsibility for your actions. Maybe if you did you would be on cloud nine too. Pregnancy and childbirth should be an empowering experience, and its your responsibility as a woman to educate yourself and make the best decisions possible for yourself and your growing baby.
