Amanda Seyfried Into 'Sort of Awful' Raw Diet

Amanda Seyfried sticks diligently to a raw food diet that she hates.
"It's intense. And sort of awful," Seyfried cringes in the
new Esquire. "Yesterday for lunch? Spinach. Just Spinach. Spinach and some seeds."
But there is a method to her madness -- meeting the beauty imperatives of Hollywood. "If I didn't run and work out, there's no way I would be this thin," Seyfried told
Glamour magazine. "But I have to stay in shape because I'm an actress. It's f****d up and it's twisted, but I wouldn't get the roles otherwise. If I'd been a bit bigger, I don't think they would have cast me for 'Mamma Mia!'"
The movie musical starring Meryl Streep grossed over $600 million worldwide.
Seyfried is currently promoting her newest feature 'Chloe,' an Atom Egoyan-directed erotic thriller that has her sharing the screen with acting heavyweights Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson.
She made her acting debut in the Tina Fey-penned 'Mean Girls' opposite Lindsay Lohan. Seyfried was recently seen onscreen in the hit 'Dear John,' co-starring Channing Tatum, and also appears on HBO's 'Big Love.'

I like her as an actress. I've watched her in every season of Big Love. Her diet sounds disgusting. She should work out and stop starving herself or practically starving!

I couldn't stand Mamma Mia, although I like both her and Meryl Streep. However, I love Amanda in Big Love. She is a natural actress. Hopefully her diet doesn't harm her body. It's that stupid pressure of Hollywood - well of the whole USA. You are never good enough unless you are thin and beautiful. It stinks.

A raw diet doesn't have to be that boring! I'm a raw vegan, and I love it. There is so much more you can eat besides spinach and seeds. I make lovely green salads and eat all the fruit I want. Green smoothies and fruit smoothies are always a win, and fresh juice is a fantastic way to start your day. And if your into fancy things, there's a raw replacement for literally almost any kind of cooked food... I've made raw "cheesecake" with raw cashew cream as the base. Everyone loved it. I've seen raw lasagna, raw "burgers", raw "crab(less)-cakes." I personally like to stick to simple stuff now, but I know that's not for everyone.
This girl isn't on a good raw diet... there is so much more she could eat.

You only live once. Is being a star worth that!! I'm not saying go out and eat BK and ice cream all the time but geez spinach and seeds!! You can eat more that that and still be healthy and thin

I don't see how whole foods are bad for anyone. As for eating them raw, that is, uncooked, some are better for you, and some are better cooked. (granted this also depends on the method used to cook them. For example, lightly steaming many vegetables to a bright color helps break down some of the proteins which release greater amounts of certain nutrients, like vitamin A in carrots). Spinach is much better for you lightly cooked than it is raw. You don't get nearly as much nutrients from it raw.

She looks like a stick already...what is she aiming for...some example to today's youth...starve yourself....if your over 100 lbs your 20 lbs overweight...thought she had some brains...but apparently not...she has gone gollywood.....If she sneezes she will disloacte her back...

Oh blah blah blah her diet may not taste good but it doesn't sound like she's starving herself; it says nothing about the portions she's eating. "if she sneezes she will dislocate her back" are you serious even in her most skinny pictures (academy awards) she still does not look so skinny to the point that she is "a stick." Not all stars are starving, aside from the ones who actually have eating disorders many stars who are slim are that way because they are living a healthy lifestyle and working out and staying fit to prepare for roles. There is nothing wrong with being skinny so long as you are that way because of a healthy lifestyle. She's eating vegetables and working out....shame on her.

So many of today's young stars look unhealthy to me...mostly because they don't seem to be working on their musculature. There's no reason that the raw food diet can't be healthy if done right, but this young lady doesn't have ANY muscle tone. I also had a bad experience myself in Hollyweird. In college I developed an eating disorder, and had just been informed by my doctor that I was dangerously underweight. However, I went to L.A. for the summer to meet with agents and was told by all of them that I was uncastable b/c I was too "average." If I wanted to be cast, I had to either lose 20 more pounds, or gain 100. WHY are two extremely unhealthy body images being promoted? It doesn't make sense to me. But as long as that's what's being cast, that's what we're going to be seeing. I just hope that they'll start finding ways to eat smarter and work out healthily.

It's a shame, the distorted views of beauty in Hollywood. Because I thought this actress looked so much better back in Mean Girls, when her face actually had that cute curvy shape to it. Now, I didn't even recognize her during the Academy Awards!

I used to be a raw vegan, and there are plenty of delicious things you can make although good raw food can take alot of preparation. But you have to be super vigilant about making sure you're getting all your vitamins and minerals or you can get very sick very quickly. Also, although you lose weight pretty quickly on a raw diet (I was losing about 12lbs a month) the minute you switch back to a regular diet you gain it all back and then some, and much more quickly than you lost it, resulting in some pretty awful looking stretch marks. A more healthy and long term approach is to try to 3 of your meals per week raw every week.

Great diet & God bless her - She will not experience the "aging" deterioration of other actresses on lesser fuel sources.
Don't forget the wheatgrass juice (horrible tasting) available at the finest health food establishments everywhere...

You have to be careful about your vitamin supplements and minerals, too. Medical experts have found that anyone who lives above the latitude of Atlanta, GA will need to take vitamin D supplements because the sun is at an oblique angle above that and you do not get all of the kind of exposure you need to metabolize other nutrients such a Calcium.
I was a vegetarian for 6 years and then my doctor found me to be so iron deficient anemic that he thought I must have colon or stomach cancer. I had a coloonoscopy and endoscopy and they were normal. I had to take huge and horrible iron supplements for a year and give up being a vegetarian too. My body was just not cut out for it. In addition to regular vitamins and Calcium I take 2300 IU of vitamin D every day because I was deficient in that too. Have your blood tested to make sure you are not missing nutrients and vitamins you need.
