Sam Worthington Doesn't Screw Around

If you've heard the phrase "biggest star on the planet" in the past 9 months -- or if you hear it in the next year or so -- it's attached to Sam Worthington. Plain and simple.
In the
April issue of Details magazine (on newsstands March 23), a new profile works to figure out the man who outshined Christian Bale in 'Terminator: Salvation,' who spearheaded the highest-grossing movie ever ('Avatar') and who'll clash with titans in, um, 'Clash of the Titans,' this April. Incorporating quotes from James Cameron, McG, Zoe Saldana and Worthington himself, the profile paints the Australian actor as a tireless, no-BS workhorse who stumbled into acting and never looked back.
Oh, and his favorite movie is 'Lethal Weapon 2.'
The former bricklayer sees acting as just another job: "Get up in the morning, go to work, make the boss happy."
In a moment of dissatisfied epiphany, Worthington auctioned off everything in his apartment: "My mates came around, saying, 'How much for the kettle?'" he recalls. "I said 'Five bucks. Starting at five. Do I hear six? Six? Sold, for five bucks!'"
Why he finds interviews -- and reading "the stupid things I say" -- excruciating: "I'm still a very boisterous young man. And I swear a bit more than I should. So I'm learning to temper it."
Worthington's "fairy godmother," James Cameron, chimes in: "He's driven to personal excellence as
he defines it, not as everyone else defines it. He doesn't make the distinctions that other actors make, as in, 'I'll do this one for the money, then this little indie movie for the art.' Sam does them
all for the art. That's a very distinct difference between him and other actors."

Sam Worthington in Details
'Avatar' leading man Sam Worthington graces the cover of Details this month. In it, he talks about his childhood: "I'm not a great fan of people who say they put a sheet up in the backyard when they were 7 and entertained all the neighbors. When I was 7, I thought I was a f****** fire truck."

The nomadic Worthington leads a "gypsy existence" and is easy to please: "I like room service. They put a chocolate on my pillow. It's kinda cool."
Did he feel destined to be an actor? Not quite: "I'm not a great fan of people who say they put a sheet up in the backyard when they were 7 and entertained all the neighbors. When I was 7, I thought I was a f***ing fire truck. Growing up, you tended to just go through school to get out, then figured out what you want to do in this big ball of mud."
Why he told his drama school compadres that 'Lethal Weapon 2' was his favorite movie: "I said, 'Look, if I can have half as much fun as those boys and get paid to do what they're doing -- that's pretty cool.'"

If he can stop letting his aussie accent bleed through in his movies, I'll take him more seriously. Distracting.
