Gabourey Sidibe is, without a doubt, an actress with a peculiar talent. Not only is she gifted when it comes to adopting new personalities and displaying them on the big screen, she's also beautiful, positive and relatable to a wide audience. Though it's understandable for people to be concerned with her weight, to boycott her movies or refuse to watch them is not necessary. Personally, I think it would be great if the viewing world would make mention of all the very thin women who walk the red carpet. Seldom does anyone say anything to these unhealthy women, yet Gabourey Sidibe is constantly being critiqued.

I want to get something straight: I'm not going to watch Gabourey just because she is large. That would demean her abilities. No, I'll watch Miss Sidibe in whatever movie or television show she participates in largely because she is a brilliantly-talented actress. I will also continue to follow her acting career, because she is a real, relatable woman.

I think most people would agree that it's wonderful to have a diverse range of men and women to watch and look up to. The world is not a mold of willowy frames and flawless skin. Gabourey represents a more authentic side of the American audience; a side that is composed of all sorts of hair colors, skin colors, backgrounds and, yes, body types. There's a reason why modern women like Queen Latifah, Kathy Bates, Toccara Jones, Mo'Nique, America Ferrera, Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Oprah Winfrey are so successful in their careers. It's because they are figures in the Hollywood spotlight who represent everyday women with beautiful bodies.

One of my favorite television shows was 'Ugly Betty,' a successful TV hit whose leading star was America Ferrera, a healthy, beautiful women with a normal body. I loved watching that show because it felt good to know that the world looked up to someone who was the epitome of a normal woman's frame (a size 10/12).

I'm also thrilled to see media gurus like Rosie O'Donnell, Sherri Shepherd and Oprah Winfrey at the top of their game. Again, these are normal women who are incredibly gifted. One show, in particular, that I especially appreciate is 'The View.' Every one of those women have gorgeous, healthy bodies. There are larger frames, smaller frames, medium frames; all of which are all perfect in their own way.
