You all must remember, he just lost his father and we all know from the show how close they were. This does not excuse a brainless act and I'm not saying I agree, but I understand. Just soem thoughtlessness from a sad young man. He'll pull out but he needs to get his head out of his ass.

Oh please...it's unfortunate that his dad had a stroke, but it's certainly no excuse. One of our school administrators did the same thing, drove drunk (in a school car) and crashed - causing considerable injuries and property damage to another individual. He blamed it on his dad passing away.
Back in 1993, my dad died, I was laid off from my job, my 17 year old daughter decided to move out of the house and move in with a low-life, my 13 year-old dog died and my husband of 23 years announced he wanted a divorce. If anyone had the right to go out and get hammered, I did. If I had done that and got caught driving drunk, would the authorities let me off the hook? I hardly think so.
No excuses.
@ Jeannine: I couldn't agree more. He's sad about his dad dying, so he's going to drink and drive and put OTHER people's fathers (mothers, children, etc.) at risk?
Bottom line our justice system has to realize its human nature to try to cover the pain of a lost loved one. Some play sports or get lost in a job, some spend time with friends and family, some sit alone in a room for a while, others drink, some turn to drugs and others kind of like Jake, are just not sure what to do. If I was on the jury I would never convict this man, solely on the grounds I hope someone would understand if it were me in his shoes. Listen we all make mistakes, and from what I can tell from the story, no one was hurt. Lets leave it at that, and let the kid off with a slap, maybe a hard one, but still just a slap.

He deserves a second chance and should not receive any jail time. Thank you.
If his dad was here, he would put his foot up Jakes arse and break it off! We miss you Phil!

You are right. Phil would have kicked his butt clear across the sea to Siberia.
make the kid go to re-hab...make him attend a yr of AA mtgs...suspend his license for a yr...jail will not cure his issue which is the pain he feels upon his fathers death. He has to deal with it sober....take him off the road so he doesn't kill anyone....but make him deal.

His license was already suspended. Anybody know WHY?

No, that was the Patriot Act.
So sorry to hear about Jake's legal problems. I know he is grieving for his dad. Get better Jake & God Bless You.

hes going through a terrible time right now. I pray for him and his family. I know if I lost my dad I may act out as well. I know it was bad about his reckless driving but losing your dad that you've looked up to your whole life would be terrible. I dread the day that it happens to me. God bless him and his family our thoughts and prayers are with them from K.Y.

Had Phil still be around it's possible he would have started a tab, and maybe he would be the one driving. Like any family dysfunction abounds.

Let's see....suspend his license, eh? Well Jake was driving with a license that was ALREADY suspended. So what does the judge do now? Really, really suspend his license? Yeah....that'll do it. Jake....I suspend your license but this time we actually mean it here in the courtroom. So....if you get caught driving with this suspended license I may have to really, really, REALLY suspend your license. ZERO TOLERANCE!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!

How sad. While my heart goes out to him, he still hs to answer for his actions. But no jail time, please. Put him on probation and make him pee in a cup. Give him another chance.

the reason the dui charge was dropped was he blew a .00 which means he was sober. the hit and run was dropped becuase no one could place him behind the wheel. That means he needs to greive and go to traffic school for his bad drive way.
