Hugh Grant Gets Into Cake Fight at Birthday Party

"Let them eat cake," Marie Antoinette reputedly said to the poor French masses during a time of famine. But she didn't know it also applied to English soirées for the rich and famous. A society party came unhinged Wednesday night in London when public relations guru Matthew Freud smeared chocolate cake all over actor Hugh Grant's white shirt, reports the
Daily Mail.
The kerfuffle occurred during socialite Heather Kerzner's 41st birthday party at Annabel's nightclub in London's fashionable Mayfair area. The disagreement started after a female attendee asked Grant if he would like to meet Freud. Grant said that he had no wish to see him and allegedly used a disparaging term to describe Freud.
"I saw a lot of white shirt and before I could stop myself it was all brown," Freud told friends after soiling Grant.
But the evening's tension didn't end there. Grant returned serve by punching his adversary in the cheek, leaving enough damage for Freud to require sunglasses the next day. A glass of wine was also thrown -- though, that ended up on London nightclub owner Johnny Gold. And in a final volley, Freud found a picture of Grant's tainted shirt and e-mailed it to friends. Point, game and match.
After the melee, Freud made a graceful exit while Grant changed into a crisp new shirt, apologized for the debacle and charmed, among others, his former girlfriend, supermodel and actress Liz Hurley.
According to
E! online, the 46-year-old Freud managed PR for the actor for more than a decade early in his career -- including during his 1995 scandal involving prostitute Divine Brown. The friendship allegedly dissolved due to a falling out over one of Freud's male friends.

Freud is a sleazy social climber. As a kid, he sold mice to his friends, then charged the parents more to take back the "pets". Kicked out of decent schools, he bluffed his way to a reputation as a grubby PR guru to the stars. Second-rate sleaze, he conned Publicis to buy out his firm, and has been living on residuals & his wife ever since. He'll blow it all on some bimbo and wind up fat and greasy in St Tropez with the other has-beens.

Poor Marie Antoinette. First, she gets killed for something she never said. Then over the centuries people use her to make their articles interesting. There is no proof that she ever used the phrase "Let them eat cake."

I totally agree, will Marie ever be allowed to RIP.
I disagree~ while there is no proof that those words were uttered by Marie, her opulent behavior while the masses were left to scratch out a meager living spoke louder than words. Therefore, off with her head!
"Cake" actually refers, not to dessert, but to pig food, which was called cake in those days.
Proof or not, she's stuck with it. We might as well get the proper meaning.
Hugh Grant needs to keep his lip zipped in public and Freud needs to learn manners. And why do we care about all this? Because Hugh Grant is a name we know. Freud? Never heard of him. Glad not to.
Freud smears cake on Grant, Grant punches him and "point, game & match" to a black-eye-sporting Freud for emailing a photo of the shirt? Um... I don't think so, "Dino".
