Ah, the infamous food fight. Since the beginning of time, people have gathered en masse to stuff their faces and (sometimes) take a little pie to the face... And it seems like any good (or bad, for that matter) movie needs a great food fight to cut all the dramatic tension and bring the characters closer together in the messy aftermath.
We rounded up some of the most memorable food fights in cinema, so grab a bite and watch.
'Whip It' (2009)
In her directorial debut, Drew Barrymore doesn't pass up a good ol' fashioned fight. Check out this standout food fight involving Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis, Kristen Wiig and of course, Drew Barrymore.
'Bratz' (2007)
Speaking of girl power, nothing comes equipped with more lip gloss or sparkly, scented accessories than 2007's 'Bratz.' Based on the infamous dolls of the same name, the film may be the anti-'Whip It,' but they do share one unique distinction: a powerhouse food fight.
'Hook' (1991)
Switching gears to this oh-so-90s, but ultimately classic, tale of 'Peter Pan' revisited, where Robin Williams must relearn how to make believe in the world of Neverland. And what better way to reignite the magic than a good old-fashioned food fight? Unfortunately, it seems the Internet has purged itself of any and all clips, but it's definitely worth adding to your Netflix cue.
'Problem Child 2' (1991)
It looks like 1991 was a good year for the on-screen food fight. Pardon the film quality -- but watching John Ritter cream loud mouth Gilbert Gottfriend in the face more than makes up for it.
'Stand By Me' (1986)
Revenge is a dish best served cold, or in this case -- vomited on the faces of not-so-innocent bystanders. A truly classic moment in cinema: the pie eating contest in 'Stand By Me.'
'Animal House' (1978)
The definitive movie food fight. Thank you, Mr. Belushi.
'Bugsy Malone' (1976)
Leave your guns at home and bring on the pie for this classic moment from the gangster musical starring Scott Baio.
'Blazing Saddles' (1974)
It doesn't get any more over-the-top than this scene from Mel Brooks' take on the classic Western.
Oh, I agree! That classic scene where Tony Curtis is walking through the scene while pies are flying, and yet not one hits him--until the end of the scene!
The Great Race starred Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood and had the greatest food fight of any movie -before or since-.
It was written an directed by Blake Edwards of the Pink Panther films and the food fight was based on the food fights from the classic teams of Laurel and Hardy and The Three Stooges - which, by the way, ALL outclass the movies that were honored as the "best" movie food fights.
In fact, Moe Howard was renowned for his aim with a pie. He could hit Cutly in the face from across a ballroom. Now THAT should have made the list!
I need to go rent this movie since everyone seems to agree! Stop paying a tobacco tax. I also agree about The Great Race. It was the first film that popped into my head when I saw the headline about great food fights in film. I saw it as a kid and loved it then.
Yeah, it may have been a while ago, but the food fight in the Great Race was truly the best. Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and their co-stars made an extravagant, flagrant and techncolored mess. Rent it. download it, buy it, it is worth it. I'm laffing here!

How could you leave out any pie fights from The Three Stooges, such as "Half-Wits Holiday", or "In the Sweet Pie and Pie"

By far the Stooges perfected food fights, then the rest, pies, modeling clay, just about anything that could be thrown.
what about Little Darlings. Tatem O'Neil and Kristy McNichal. when the food was all over their fronts. nice classic.

all of the recent food fight scenes owe it to the genius of those three "knuckleheads nyuk nyuk nyuk" The Three Stooges
