Even with all of the fame and Oscar buzz 'Precious' got this past year, that's still not enough to land star Gabourey Sidibe on the pages of Vogue magazine. According to my sources, Miss Sidibe's weight is what's keeping her out of Anna Wintour's publication, where being rail-thin is a necessity. Shocking quotes, plus scoop on some infamous music wardrobe and a 'Top Chef' tattoo ... after the jump!Vogue Magazine Rejects 'Precious' Gabby
Sources tell me that the editors of Vogue magazine rejected the idea of letting Oscar nominee Gabby Sidibe grace its fashionable pages because of her size.
"She's a joke in the fashion community. What she wore on the red carpet at the Academy Awards wasn't a dress, it was a tent," one nasty little fashion queen (who I shall not be talking with again) told me.
"Vogue is venue where designers debut their best new pieces. All are of which are one of a kind and sample size. It would be impossible to get a regular-sized girl in those clothes, let alone Gabby," a less acid-tongued fashion source explained.
A spokesperson for Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who after a trip to Minnesota said, "I can only kindly describe most of the people that I saw as little houses," didn't return calls by deadline.
I say, if Vogue is so buddy-buddy with all the designers, tell them make a dress for Gabby for the next issue. See? Problem fixed. That was easy! And for all of you magazine editors out there, normal people don't want to see all of these skeleton models -- give us the real girls!
Manilow Replaced '70s 'Copa' Jacket With Tailed Tux
Finally, after 32 years, the most famous costume from the '70s has been updated.
Barry Manilow, who has hit the Las Vegas Strip with his new show, traded his famous white ruffled 'Copacabana' jacket for an elegant black tuxedo jacket with tails and dapper top hat.
The Smithsonian Museum in Washington requested the original 'Copa' jacket to include in its pop culture wing. Sadly, though, they returned it after Barry said, "I always knew it would end up in an institution one day." (Those museum types have no sense of humor.)
Still, Barry does have a sense of humor, and he tells me: "I'm going to miss that silly Copacabana shirt. I've worn it for so many years, it's walking around without me!"
Check out Barry at The Paris in Vegas, the hottest spot North (and West) of Havana.
The 'Top Chef' Tattoo Controversy Solved
Gail Simmons started an Internet firestorm amongst foodies with her latest video installment on KitchenDaily.com, when it appeared that she had a new tattoo on her forearm.
However, there's no need to panic, sources tell me. The shoot took place the day after a baby shower for 'Top Chef' host Padma Lakshmi, where one of the traditional party games/customs was for everyone to get a henna tattoo. The problem is, henna tattoos don't actually go away that fast, and hence, Gail's temporarily tatted video shoot.
Try some lemon juice, Gail! (Note to Real Simple magazine: Tell us how to wipe off a henna tattoo!)

Yeah , this is the kind of thinking that has put people into those catagories we all hate so much . I have loved Vogue for years but when will we all realize that everyone is different and that some are big , some are small. I would think that Vogue would stop all this pretenousness and lead the fashion world into the land of exceptence and out of the world of exclusion but I guess they are just not that big minded yet . I won,t be buying Vogue again , not until they grow up and drop thier snobbery.

Vogue has its place. If you don't like what they are doing, just on down to Wal-mart. Big girls get their clothes from somewhere. Oh, and have a nice day!
She isn't just "big." She is HUGE. Why is this so hard for people to grasp? I am about 20 pounds overweight and you don't see my fat butt on a magazine. I don't want to look at someone so fat she looks unhealthy. I don't think anyone does. If she loses 150 pounds, then put her on a magazine.
To Big for Vougue. Why do nt you photoshop Gabby just like you do for every other celebrity you put on the front cover of your precious magazine....... What a Joke....... They wonder why young girls want to be SICKLY THIN...........Way to go and SET AN EXAMPLE your magazine is a joke...
Reply
Even 'photoshopped' ...... they don't print an issue THAT heavy!!!!!
I agree, they shouldn't put unhealthy people in their magazine that goes for the sickly thin and the morbidly obese...
HAVE YOU SEEN THE LATEST JESSICA SIMPSON SHOW... MODELS IN PARIS.....TAKE A GOOD LOOK MOST MODELS R HUNGRY, THEY LOOK HUNGRY AND MOST R UNDER NOURISHED, AMERICA NEEDS TO GET OVER IT, AMERICA GAVE MONIQUE A FAT CHANCE.....WHY NOT GABBY
Howard Stern was right! The woman is too big. Everyone is so damned PC, they're afraid to tell the truth. SHE IS OBESE. There, I said it. So shoot me...

I agree with you. Why should Vogue celebrate this woman's obesity as being fashion forward just because she is a new celebrity? Michelle Obama has selected fighting childhood obesity as her new cause. Gabby Sidibe could be her poster child. Vogue has never been a magazine for fatties. Sidibe would never make it as a plus-size model. These big and beautiful gals are well proportioned not hippopotomuses. People should get over their PCness. Just how many copies of a fashion magazine using only obese models do they think would actually sell?
FACT the girl is obese and looks like she is morbidly obese. Morbid Obesity is a DEADLY DISEASE. Stating the facts and treaating the disease is not mean spirited it is something that may save this young womans life!
Thanks for the info...GOODBYE Vogue!!! I don't care what a person looks like, they should be given recognition where it is deserved. And there are a lot of models lately that may be the right size but they are extremely ugly or promote some sort of drug use... Maybe it's time these people that make their fortunes off of us realize that they are no one without us...STOP BUYING OR SUPPORTING VOGUE!!!!
Reply
Damn............. I could RECOGNIZE her from a half a mile away!!!!!
I hate to agree with Howard Stern but what did you guys expect? The woman is HUGE and it's not nice to see someone so close to death on the cover of Vogue. They chose her for Precious for a reason. Oprah, please help her! She's not fine, she's in trouble.

She's also Ugly as sin

It seems there's got to be a happy medium. Gabby, without a doubt, is far too overweight to be identifed with by 'average' people. Her weight is her ID. It's something that will prevent her from getting work in Hollywood, and if she does, it'll be BECAUSE she's so heavy. And Vogue? They've always had skeletal remains on their covers dressed in up-to-the-second fashions. Why should anybody be surprised. My solution? Put Gabby on a diet, for her own good, for so many reasons. Vogue, how about giving us models that 'average' women can identify with. Not everybody can be 90 lbs and ribs showing. These girls need a sandwich and NOW!!

Okay. So, Gabourney Sidibe is huge. Fact. She looked TERRIBLE on the red carpet. Another fact. Beyond that, what? Leave the kid alone. She's talented. I'm sure she knows she's huge. I'm sure she feels the health effects. Daily. If she does address her serious weight issues, she'll do so -- in her own time and on her own terms. But on the subject of fashion, whoever was responsible for her dress Oscar night should be drummed out of the business; it was appalling. Honestly, women that overweight shouldn't be baring arms, showing all those fat rolls. Not attractive! Sidibe would have looked far better in a beautifully tailored, long-sleeved dressy jacket over a full-length skirt in a color designed to play up her skin tone -- say, a royal blue or something in the lavender to magenta range. And her hair should have been up with some serious bling in the way of dangly diamonds in her ears. It was her night, and she deserved to look glam -- not like the appalling mess she showed up as. Designers, do your job and design. Don't try to just drape fabric around a large woman -- especially one of Sidibe's size -- and expect to simply "make do," assuming that, "Well, she's fat. What do you expect?" That's a copout. And a fashion disaster.

Everything you said was on point
I agree with you. I also feel like we are all shallow to be spending so much time caring what Vogue and these pathetic designers say. Gabby may be fat and ugly, but she at least has talent and a personality. She can lose weight and look better, but the rest of you probably cannot do anything to improve your pathetic lives. Anna Winter is a sad, sad, rich woman that like most rich people had better enjoy their lives here because I am not so sure God wants to spend eternity with them.
