Even with all of the fame and Oscar buzz 'Precious' got this past year, that's still not enough to land star Gabourey Sidibe on the pages of Vogue magazine. Shocking quotes, plus scoop on some infamous music wardrobe and a 'Top Chef' tattoo ... after the jump!Vogue Magazine Rejects 'Precious' Gabby
Sources tell me that the editors of Vogue magazine rejected the idea of letting Oscar nominee Gabby Sidibe grace its fashionable pages because of her size.
"She's a joke in the fashion community. What she wore on the red carpet at the Academy Awards wasn't a dress, it was a tent," one nasty little fashion queen (who I shall not be talking with again) told me.
"Vogue is venue where designers debut their best new pieces. All are of which are one of a kind and sample size. It would be impossible to get a regular-sized girl in those clothes, let alone Gabby," a less acid-tongued fashion source explained.
A spokesperson for Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who after a trip to Minnesota said, "I can only kindly describe most of the people that I saw as little houses," didn't return calls by deadline.
I say, if Vogue is so buddy-buddy with all the designers, tell them make a dress for Gabby for the next issue. See? Problem fixed. That was easy! And for all of you magazine editors out there, normal people don't want to see all of these skeleton models -- give us the real girls!
Manilow Replaced '70s 'Copa' Jacket With Tailed Tux
Finally, after 32 years, the most famous costume from the '70s has been updated.
Barry Manilow, who has hit the Las Vegas Strip with his new show, traded his famous white ruffled 'Copacabana' jacket for an elegant black tuxedo jacket with tails and dapper top hat.
The Smithsonian Museum in Washington requested the original 'Copa' jacket to include in its pop culture wing. Sadly, though, they returned it after Barry said, "I always knew it would end up in an institution one day." (Those museum types have no sense of humor.)
Still, Barry does have a sense of humor, and he tells me: "I'm going to miss that silly Copacabana shirt. I've worn it for so many years, it's walking around without me!"

The 'Top Chef' Tattoo Controversy Solved
Gail Simmons started an Internet firestorm amongst foodies with her latest video installment on KitchenDaily.com, when it appeared that she had a new tattoo on her forearm.
However, there's no need to panic, sources tell me. The shoot took place the day after a baby shower for 'Top Chef' host Padma Lakshmi, where one of the traditional party games/customs was for everyone to get a henna tattoo. The problem is, henna tattoos don't actually go away that fast, and hence, Gail's temporarily tatted video shoot.
Try some lemon juice, Gail! (Note to Real Simple magazine: Tell us how to wipe off a henna tattoo!)

She is big and she is not attractive in my opinion. Would it be different if she was a huge unattractive white women? Does Vogue cater only to the very skinny. I have seen the magazine here and there but I do not buy or subscribe to it.

And America wonders why young girls have issues with their weight? Here's a prime example. Yes, she has a weight problem, but the barely there models they have going down the runways also have a problem. Also, what is under her weight. What is keeping her down there? Getting off the weight is just putting a band aid on the situation. There are issues people have and they need to be resolved. I work in nursing and we have kids on steroids that really bloat up. I was just telling someone today that one little boy we have would be made fun of in the general public, but it is the meds that make him look so fat. So, and I'm not saying this is Gabby's case, do not be so quick to judge people. You never know their situation.

it's wrong to expect everyone to conform to the 1 ounce model norm these so-called "fashion" magazines push. the whole "tent" thing makes it NO easier! do these judgemental "beanpoles" think that fat jokes and insults make someone wake up in the morning and say "why yes, vogue is right, i AM fat. i think i'll go out and lose weight!" yes, let's all go their route and either coke up or use amphetamines (how else do you think they stay so skinny?) not even enough body fat to menstrate, let alone get pregnant! BUT on the other hand, she is an african-american who is morbidly obese which means she is at risk of diabetes or worse. i'm a WHOLE lot more worried about her health than her looks!

If she's on a single page in Vogue at the size she is now, I, as an African-American woman, will make sure that I NEVER read Vogue again....

Gabby could do a four page S-P-R-E-A-D.........
I don't always agree with the fashion industries SIZE preferances, but this girl is huge in any standard. I'm sorry but they can't go from anorexic skinny to health hazard OBESE. She is obese, not fat, but truly obese for what the word stands for. Vogue is fashion, it's glamour, these do not apply to OBESE, no matter how beautiful the article of clothing is, the lines the fabric the cut, it can not and will not be represented in an obese body.

I personally don't read Vogue. I'm a middle class working person who thinks the phony, skinny, photoshopped models they put on their covers are outrageous and have nothing to do with reality. I think it's harmful to project a photoshopped image because young girls will try to attain an unattainable image. And who wears the clothes these broomsticks model? The average person- I don't think so. Vogue seems to be a magazine about fantasy, not about reality. Gabbie is reality and she may not be pretty but at least she's real.

She was wonderful in her role in Precious and don't agree that people have to be sickly thin but she's morbidly obese. What kind of role model is that. I could see if she was trying to eat healthy and exercise but parading around in a tent with her swollen unattractive face does not magazines sell.

Wouldn't expect any lesser statement from snooty Vogue magazine. Whether Gabby is morbidly overweight or rail-thin, is her concern. Sadly, being a very talented actress, is overshadowed by those who are in praise of anorexia, in the format of being able to be considered a Vogue model. And, that is a problem which should be the concern of the public and of Vogue magazine. Neither entity is healthy.

This poor creature has been really set up by the media. First of all she needs an eye operation I don't think she can see without squinting. Secondly she needs to have her stomach stapled. She will die like Mama Cass. Her acting is minimal and she should not be looked up to at all. Well, maybe for her good attitude. She will have diabetes within five years. Please let's not judge her as wonderful because she is Black.

So you can die from anorexia the same as obesity, but that’s acceptable, because you are thin? I was a daycare teacher, and a nine year old girl asked me if she was fat (she wasn't, not even close), and it is so sad that a child who should just be enjoying being a kid is already worried about how she looks. Yes there is a health issue looming for this actress, if not already, but she is not a second class citizen because of that. You are telling anyone that feels fat, that they are right to have no self esteem.

As others have said there needs to be a happy medium in the women who appear in Vogue. I agree, Gabby, is far too heavy and does not look that good in her clothes, but neither do the super skinny models. How about normal sized women?? It wouldn't hurt Vogue to have one picture of Gabbe, but I can see where they wouldn't want a whole spread. On the other hand, I'm NOT a reader of Vogue because I think most of the clothes in that magazine I and most women would not wear!

Since when was Vogue in the business of promoting healthy lifestyles? How many of their models don’t drink, do drugs or smoke? Are their models tested to make sure they are healthy before they are hired? Does Vogue even care about that? They are in the business of promoting thinness. That is all. Gabby, as well as a majority of American women, does not meet their standards. If they were promoting more normal, not extremely overweight women, they could probably double their sales. I, for one, would love to see a magazine that shows how people like me can be more stylish. But they prefer a niche market. I do admire Gabby for a reason besides her unbelievable talent. Although she needs to lose weight for health reasons, she does not tie her weight to her self-esteem.

also dark skinned blacks dont photograph well, you never see really black blacks in magazines you cant see them

I think that it would be refreshing to see a big girl on the cover for a change! The women they normally have on the cover are too skinny! It's unnatural!

Somebody's gotta' say it, so here goes. I don't want to see her wearing leopard print, Louis Vuitton or lingerie. And yes, that dress she had on at the Oscar's WAS ugly. And huge. And while it didn't show much, it still showed too much, if you get my meaning. The only reason this girl is making herself at home in Hollywood is because Oprah has waved her magic wand over the girl's head, which always performs a miracle. But I doubt even Oprah has enough wand for this much gal. While I rarely make disparaging remarks about another's looks, I must ask you, with her beady eyes, little bitty head and those great, billowing jowls, what does she remind you of? Me, too, if you said a hippopotamus, God love her. Looks like she could open up her mouth and you could toss in a head of lettuce. As for the Vogue controversy? This young woman is not Vogue material. Neither am I. Nor was I when I was young and thin. Vogue serves a purpose for a particular demographic in the fashion mag industry. Why are we trying to devour Anna Wintour for publishing a successful magazine for its intended purposes?

She is so unhealthy and Vogue is not a snob, people are just so sentimental. She is obese and needs to take care of that. As a Vogue reader I would not purchase it with Gabby on the cover.
