Chloe Sevigny Laments 'Awful' Season of 'Big Love'

In a move of Katherine Heigl-ian* proportions, 'Big Love' star Chloe Sevigny has dissed her own show, complaining bravely that the recently wrapped season was "awful" and the main storyline "far-fetched." In an interview with
The Onion's AV Club, the actress says the show's writers "were really pushing it" by "squishing too much" into nine episodes of the HBO show.
"It was very telenovela," she said. "I feel like it kind of got away from itself. The whole political campaign seemed to me very far-fetched."
Seemingly aware she was stepping in a steaming pile of controversy ("I'm not allowed to say that!"), Sevigny tried to soften her comments by saying she still loves the show, her character and the writing. However, she ended that diplomatic-sounding sentence with "but I felt like they were really pushing it this last season."
She also accidentally dragged her "sister wives" into the mess. "Me and the girls [Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin] definitely were not very happy with where it was going."
But she added, "or more kind of, 'We really hope it's going to work. It seems like they're really pushing it.' I think next season, they're going to go back to more just the family. I think that the stuff with Ben and Lois and that stuff was really great in Mexico, but ..." and she trailed off, perhaps aware of the weight of her comments.
On one of the more sensational developments in the recent 'Love' season, where the character J.J. attempts to get her pregnant with an "incest baby," Sevigny couldn't hold back.
"Oh God, I know. Oh, God. It's too much. It's too much. But I hope the fans will stick with us and tune in next year. There's a lot of people who really love this season, surprisingly. God, I'm going to get in so much trouble."
* A reference to Katherine Heigl's 2008 comments about the writing quality on 'Grey's Anatomy.' She announced this week she's leaving the show.

Her remarks were absolutely spot on the money! Too "out there" and waaay too much going on at one time. We almost quit watching.
I hope next season is more like the first few.

She may be right, but one should never bite the hand that feeds them.
learn to speak english.
spot on or on the money.
not spot on the money.
it's called mixing metaphors.
makes you sound like a moron.
She is very correct ...I thought this season of Big Love was trying to put way to much into it and then the end of season ending was well this is all the time we have to here.....
Cloe has every right to demand better writing ....we as viewers want better stories ....BIG LOVE was very dissappionting this season ......

Wow !! She hit it right on the money. I have watched this show since the beginning, and thought the same exact thing about cramming too much into one hour every week. This season sucked and I barely kept up with it. They didn't even address Amanda leaving for good as I understand she is not returning next year. Too bad as she is a great actress. Hope it is better next year.

i LOVED THE PREVIOUS SEASONS AND RE-JOINED HBO to able to see Big Love. Too confusing ,too much going on and the ending was simply stupid. ???????? please let Cloe do what she is best with, The politics did not make sense.

She's right and shouldn't be afraid to say it. This season was clearly over the top with plausibility going right out the window. My husband and I used to look at each other after every episode and go "WTF?" Somehow, Bill became bi-polar in a prolonged manic state -- the casino, the "outing" of the family, the 9000 square foot house. Three wives and none of them thought of killing him? Big Love is my guilty pleasure, but next season I'm hoping we're back down to planet earth for a while.

Chloe Sevigny is clearly a whole lot smarter than the people in charge at "Big Love." The political campaign was totally unbelievable. And what do they do now that Bill has outed the family? How do you go back to the great family drama? A family without a secret is a nonexistent family ... at least on the screen.

I agree with her. And I too still love Big Love and am looking forward to a new and improved season.

She is absolutely, 100% correct. Whether she SHOULD have said it, I don't know, but she's right. Everyone knows it.

I was a faithful viewer of Big Love until this season. One night in February while watching the latest episode, I realized that I deeply disliked every single character in the show. I took Big Love off the Tivo season pass list and haven't looked back.

She's spot on. This season bordered on science fiction. Every character seemed to have a darker side. Difficult to tell the antagonists from the protagonists. It's turning into another "Heroes", with so many characters and plotlines.
The whole casino thread was boring and failed to move the story forward.
Waiting to see how long Bill stays in office since made his announcment. Gotta be a way the State can remove him from office for his illegal life-style.

Snevknee's mad 'cause there're no scenes of her blowin' the director.

Chloe is correct and most viewers are probably going to agree with her. The nine episodes shown this season damaged this series badly and I have to wonder if the writers can fix the damage done.

I guess I'm in the minority. I have watched the show from the beginning and thought this was one of the better seasons. Yes, lots going on, but that sure beats the last 3 seasons of the Sopranos where NOTHING ever happened.
And yes, the political campaign was a bit far fetched (this is TV), but when you think about John Edwards believing he could be elected President (or later believing he could be Attorney General) while keeping his "love child" in the closet - it doesn't seem as far fetched.

She is absolutely correct. This season felt rushed and took on a soap-opera-like quality. I hope the writers get things back on track next season.

Ungrateful. I'd love to be in a hit show, I'd love just to get some work. Maybe if this actress ever goes hungry for work she'll be more grateful in the future.

Chloe is spot on! This season was absolutely awful. The whole political campaign, Barb's reconciliation with her sister, Margene's marriage, Sarah's marriage, the incest plot, the murder/coverup of Roman, the marriage of Nikki's mom to JJ, the in-fighting between wives, the cascino, Nikki's attempt at an affair with the prosecutor, Alvie's, homosexuality, Ben/Lois business, on and on and on. NONE of the storylines were fully examined and developed, just thrown in there for filler between the campaign crap. Too many unbelievable plots, too many unanswered questions, too much head-spinning trying to keep up.

She hit the nail on the head and this season was awful. Hope next season is better and if not, it will be the demise of the show. I was very disappointed with this show this season.

She's Right, I picked up HBO just to watch that show.
I thought it was very bad writing and producing.
They changed the opening of the show by taking away the Beach Boys Song. The new opening of the show reflects with the bad writing of the show.If next years show turns out to be the same,
the show will be finished.
