Chloe Sevigny Laments 'Awful' Season of 'Big Love'

In a move of Katherine Heigl-ian* proportions, 'Big Love' star Chloe Sevigny has dissed her own show, complaining bravely that the recently wrapped season was "awful" and the main storyline "far-fetched." In an interview with
The Onion's AV Club, the actress says the show's writers "were really pushing it" by "squishing too much" into nine episodes of the HBO show.
"It was very telenovela," she said. "I feel like it kind of got away from itself. The whole political campaign seemed to me very far-fetched."
Seemingly aware she was stepping in a steaming pile of controversy ("I'm not allowed to say that!"), Sevigny tried to soften her comments by saying she still loves the show, her character and the writing. However, she ended that diplomatic-sounding sentence with "but I felt like they were really pushing it this last season."
She also accidentally dragged her "sister wives" into the mess. "Me and the girls [Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin] definitely were not very happy with where it was going."
But she added, "or more kind of, 'We really hope it's going to work. It seems like they're really pushing it.' I think next season, they're going to go back to more just the family. I think that the stuff with Ben and Lois and that stuff was really great in Mexico, but ..." and she trailed off, perhaps aware of the weight of her comments.
On one of the more sensational developments in the recent 'Love' season, where the character J.J. attempts to get her pregnant with an "incest baby," Sevigny couldn't hold back.
"Oh God, I know. Oh, God. It's too much. It's too much. But I hope the fans will stick with us and tune in next year. There's a lot of people who really love this season, surprisingly. God, I'm going to get in so much trouble."
* A reference to Katherine Heigl's 2008 comments about the writing quality on 'Grey's Anatomy.' She announced this week she's leaving the show.

i have watched every episode of this series and was sadly disappointed that there was better stuff to pick from on Netflix than watching this season of Big Love...bill came off looking like an ego maniac, Barb was the ultimate in depressing. JJ and Nicki and Nickie's Mom, oh please... and Margine, the marriage to the 4th wife's new man, and the baby really got out there... lost what morals it used to have. If not for TRUE BLOOD i would cancel my HBO...

Big Love? They should rename it, "Big Dud."

Thought the season was great ! C'mon now... the show needs to be
watched with tongue in cheek anyhow - so many other things going
on, meth, Don at the store, etc. The worst thing about the show
is too few episodes - probably because Chloe doesn't like being
gone from east coast home. As for Chloe, she was great this season. To those that didn't like season 3 go back and watch
some episodes... diggin up Roman, Adaline torching the creeps
at the end, Lois with the machete. WOW WOW WOW !!!

I love the show and have loved each and every episode of each and every season. I think its cool that Cloe has an opinion though, even if it is critical. At least she cares about the content of the show, and not just the paycheck.

I love Big Love. It has a great cast.
Each of the 3 wives is a keeper.
Every Guy likes Chloe. Margine starting to look
nicer also.
Yep, the political campaign was a terrible idea for the show.

Cloe is absolutely right. But she should never have said it in an interview! Let the TV show critics take care of that - she should have had some loyalty. She'll learn.

whi is this cloe sivneny and whats her function? kinda homely broad too

I don`t know which was worse. The political thing, casino thing, or outing the family. Why would a Morman even work in a casino? I can`t imagine where this show is going. The Mexico part was good but the rest of the season was disappointing. What a waste of good telent.

Maybe they will wake up in the new season and it will all have been a BAD DREAM...worked on other shows! I agree, 'outing' the family will be bad for future story lines

What is "Big Love"? Until just now, I had never heard of it!

I did like the show it was hard to follow but it has a good story to work with if they get some better writers. Looking forward to next season. Is it rerun time already or is everyone on vacation I am seeing repeats on all station. Must be hard to have half the year off.

I only watched sporadically until last season. I think that I enjoyed it more than the others because it exposed polygamy for the perversion that it really is. I loved Bill trying to justify the double standard of why it's ok for a man to have multiple wives but not for a woman to have multiple husbands! Kudos to his wives for splitting on this "excuse for getting laid" of a religion!

I LOVE this show and I even converted my doubting husband into a fan. This season was not the best because it crammed so much into so few episodes and the political campaign seemed beyond unlikely. Bill's character, although deluded, would have to be smart enough to know that a polygamous state senator would be ridden out of Utah on a rail in extremely short order. Their family's survival depends on secrecy which is what the first few seasons emphasized.
I loved the Mexico episodes because Lois is such a strong character in spite of, or maybe because of, the life's she's led. I also cheered when Nicki's mom tied up JJ and wife and was burning down the house around them. Two villains got their just desserts by two strong women.
I don't always like the characters, but I have to admire their survival skills. I really detest Bill for throwing Don under the bus to save his campaign and for firing Tommy and his dad from the casino for lying to the DEA. Does the DEA even have jurisdiction on a reservation?

I loved this season. Absolutely loved it. They did ratchet it up a bit, but I thought that the building of the tension with one thing happening after another worked really well. I have a bit of knowledge of the political arena and I thought the writers hit it spot on. Life doesn't stop just because you're running for office. Really intense stuff and a heart palpitating joy to watch.

She is so right and it's refreshing to know she being an actress realized what we as the viewers were seeing. The latest season was an over-the-top, cartoonish mess. I'm glad she's being candid about it because it's true. The season was very rushed and all over the place. The Mexico episode was the worst in the show's history. I hope next season they give us a 12 episode season, develop the stories, and focus more on the family. I hope the creators take heed or I'll stop watching. I really like this show and expected so much more from it.

Even if the season was bad, she should have thought about what she said, before running her mouth. She got a paycheck, did'nt she and I cannot see her in movies, because I do not thinks she will make it there.

I've watched Big Love from the beginning and have always LOVED it, this season was a little crazy. Look forward to next season to see how Bill survives the outting!!

Absolutely the worst season of BIG LOVE. Im going to see what happens next year but if it's going to be this bad bye bye HBO! Chloe is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT it was AWFUL. The whole Bill running for state senate was boring and a waste of time. I could go on and on about what was WRONG WITH THIS SEASON OF BIG LOVE. Writers get it together!!!

Chloe is right...the show got way too confusing with all the different storylines. It was politics, casinos, the extra marriage (with the foreign guy), etc. etc. It was reminding me of a daytime soap opera. I hope it gets back to the basics. All of them are really good actors, but the show needs to get back to the way it was.
