Jessica Alba Announces Plans To Adopt

Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren are the proud parents of 22-month-old Honor Marie, but the 'Sin City' star has plans for a bigger family. During an 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' appearance that will air Sunday night, Alba announced she intends to adopt a child. "If you have the love, and the capacity to love children, you should just adopt. And I plan on doing it, " said Alba.

"My mom grew up around a huge family, and they always wanted more kids," Alba continued, according to PEOPLE. "I was like, 'Why don't you just adopt?'"

The actress appears alongside the building and design teams of ABC's reality series to rebuild a home for a Texas foster family of 15. The Boston Herald reports that Alba, 28, hopes to use her good deed as an example for Honor. "It's a duty, I think, for everyone to have social responsibility in some capacity," Alba said. "We are blessed to have so many opportunities in this country, a child has to know you can't just take. You also have to give."

She added, "'If you have a platform where you can raise awareness or give a voice to a cause in any way, it's a blessing."

I agree with you elvis. Her political remarks are both juvenile and lack any depth in experience. If these celebrities are too stupid to keep their mouths shut about political views when it could jeopardize their careers, imagine a poor child being indoctrinated in this mindset? She ought to keep her mouth shut and just strut her stuff. That is apparently the only attribute she possesses....she sure as hell can't act!

Why adopt when you can have your own? How about this..if you are sooo concerned about it...how about pay the costs of adoption for a couple or two that CANNOT have kids. Oh and if you really care...how about adopting some older kids from America instead of going to Serbia or Africa.

Because she doesn't want to have anymore of her own! Didn't you read all the interviews where she stated she was so depressed being pregnant because she got so fat. But she wasn't even fat, she was Pregnant! To thin women, especially celebrities with their glamorous careers and sexy bodies, being pregnant makes them feel like beached whales when actually its a beautiful thing, but not when your career depends on your look.

"Why adopt when you can have your own?" What an idiotic thing to say. There are thousands of children around the world who don't have good homes and need loving parents to adopt them. I think the fact that she wants to adopt while capable of having her own children makes it that much more awesome. In an overpopulated world with so many kids needing adoption, a better question might be, "Why have your own when you can adopt?"

To Shari - Adoption is not wonderful. You take away from one family (yes a single mom and her child are a family) to add to another.

Saint I agree with you on why adopt when she can have her own.

The only time adoption should even take place is when the child is an orphan - no parents or other family members to take over AND when the couple can not have children of their own even with fertility help.

And it definiely should not be allowed just because people want to add to their family but have a nanny raising the child 24/7 with outings to try to make themselves look like wonderful parents. If you can't seriously put in the time to raise them you shouldn't have them with a busy work schedule.

I am an adoptive parent having adopted a child through social services here in this country.

Children in this country are often removed from homes that are dangerous and from biological parents that aren't able to take care of themselves much less raise children.

In short, your belief that adoption should only take place when the child is an orphan is a little short on thought.

My experience adopting has been wonderful and more people should look into adopting here in the U.S.

You have to be joking right??/ How about all the children who are born into drug abusing, alcoholic, sexual abusing parents? Don't they deserve to have a decent life?? Get real. Some people are just not fit to be parents even though they can have sex and get pregnant. Parenting should be life long loving care, not just p[opping ojut a baby. And don't get me started on teen age pregnancies.....Geesh.

yea that's right, lets spend 50 grand or more on fertility treatment with no promise that it'll even work or not. that's far better than giving a child a home! and oh, for you poor kids deal with being mentally, physically and sexually abused, well you just deal with it because at least you're not an orphan!
