Stars Without Makeup: Is Jessica Simpson's Bare Face For Real?
Jessica Simpson has been traveling the globe, recording beauty rituals in various cultures for her reality show 'The Price of Beauty' -- but back in the United States, Simpson dispensed with her usual routine, appearing in
Marie Claire without a stitch of makeup. "I don't have anything to prove anymore," Jessica told the magazine. "What other people think of me is not my business."
Yet Simpson's photograph is so flawless, many refuse to believe the singer is truly bare-faced.
The Huffington Post asked readers if they thought Simpson looked like she was secretly sporting concealer or blush -- and a majority said yes. But Simpson's former publicist (and current PopEater staffer) Rob Shuter answers the question for us definitively. "I know Jess and have seen her many times without any makeup," Shuter tells us. "I can 100 percent confirm: That is what she looks like."
"Her natural beauty is staggering. Her skin glows and her big eyes pop," Shuter continues. "I think she looks better natural or with very little makeup on."
Though the choice to present herself willingly on a magazine cover was a bold -- and rare -- choice for a celebrity, candid shots of stars with bare faces have a proven record of success in the media marketplace.
"People are 100 percent more interested in seeing celebrities in their rawest form. That is why candid shots of celebrities going about their daily routine are so popular and sell for so much money," says Jordan Osher, CEO of
MeetTheFamous.com. "Fans and readers want to see what celebs look like off the red carpet without their fancy dress, designer jewelry and high end makeup caked on. Our photo agency specializes in candid photos from the everyday person with a camera, because they can capture the true essence of a celebrity when they don't think the media is around."
Sally Baxter of Pacific Coast News suggests that those candid shots quell our fears that celebrities have something we don't. "It's all part of that whole 'celebs are just like us.' Or that we like to see them when they look slightly more vulnerable so we don't feel so bad about ourselves. That's also why we like pictures of them looking fat or skinny or eating."
Shuter explains that, in Simpson's case, the willingness to show herself in that vulnerable place speaks volumes about her personal growth. "She lost her confidence a bit and went a little crazy with too much makeup and hair," he says. "It was easy to forget that beneath all that rubbish was a beautiful girl. The happier Jess is personally, the more natural she looks."
"This is a great sign," he adds. "The Jess I know wouldn't have been able to do this cover years ago!"

The ONLY way to make Kate go away is to.....CHANGE THE CHANNEL. ALSO, most networks have a viewer feedback area on their websites, and these Network Execs need to know that America is SICK OF KATE!!! You can do the same thing for Palin's new "show" about Alaska. AMERICA....we need to TAKE BACK OUR AIRWAVES, and DEMAND good quality programming. All this Kate crap simply GLORIFIES the fact that if you have 8 kids, you can EXPLOIT them for PERSONAL GAIN! Kate (and Octomom) are the POSTER CHILDREN for that!!!

Have to agree with your thoughts, until you opened up on Sarah Palin; obviously you have an agenda, and you do not speak the heart and soul of America. Do a check up from the neck up, or follow your logic over the cliff it is headed for.

Sick of Kate too. And I wholeheartedly agree with you about Palin too. The other response is from the 1/4 of the country who love her and don't care that she lies and has the intelligence of a 12 year old.
The other 3/4 of us can't stand her because we can see through her fake hometown America talk. She wanted to seperate Alaska from the U.S. for cripe's sake! How is that patriotic?!

She looks very pretty without makeup....very pretty.
It's obvious she's wearing mascara. Also, there is NO WAY one can look better with NO make-up than with a ton of it. Why do they have to lie about it? She does look beautiful, but we all know the camera picks up every little flaw. She does NOT have perfect skin; that is obvious in the pics where she IS definitely wearing make-up. Don't you guys know anything about photography?!
Hey Song...I totally agree with you! Jessica is not wearing any makeup - not even mascara. Take a look-see at her NY pic. She's a beautiful girl naturally. Maybe in my next life I can get away without wearing any makeup!
I couldn't care less what Jessica looks like without makeup, but if you're going to claim you're not wearing any, you better not be. I think Jessica's photo may have been altered to make her bare face look better. The lighting for the photo is very neutral, and her skin tone may have been smoothed out to make it appear more even. Very few women, especially young ones, have skin tone that even on every inch of their face. But the real giveaway to me is the very, very obvious thickness of the lashes on the eye that's not covered up by her hair. She's either wearing mascara or false eyelashes - even women with fabulous thick eyelashes don't have that texture - that just doesn't occur in nature.

i agree about the lashes, first thing i noticed.
my eyelashes looked like that without makeup when I was young, still do. She could have used that eyelash growing stuff also. Quit being so critical. She looks good, she is young and pretty.
Especially since she's a blonde, the eyelashes would not look that thick and/or dark. It's fine that people think she's beautiful (she is!), but why lie about the make-up? Just so the rest of us can feel bad?

It is very possible that she wasn't wearing makeup for that shoot. However, that doesn't mean that the magazine didn't do some post-photo airbrushing/correcting of their own.

About 4 years ago, I ran into Nick and Jessica in Philadelphia and I can PERSONALLY say that both he and (especially) Jessica are quite possibly 2 of the most great looking people I have ever met. Jessica was not caked up with alot of makeup and was simply stunning! They were also very nice and humorous. I also had the unfortunate experience of meeting Sarah Jessica Parker in SoHo and can attest that she is in fact a pig!
