'Modern Family' has only been on television for a little over half a season, but we're already head-over-heels in love with one of its couples, Cameron and Mitchell. In fact, we're willing to argue that the lovable gay duo, played by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, is the very best on the small screen right now.
Sure, TV couples like Meredith and Derek and Jim and Pam may lead more exciting lives, but Cameron and Mitchell (Citchell? Mameron?) represent one case in which television has crafted a couple that is both relatable and ultimately realistic, no matter your sexual preference.
Like all good couples, Cameron and Mitchell love and support one another. They may not make sense on paper -- Cameron is flamboyant and outrageous, while Mitchell is more of a straight man (no pun intended) -- but they've found a working balance between one another that gets them through even the most dire and embarrassing situations -- like, you know, when Cameron decides that he wants to dress up like a clown, or when Mitchell wants to quit his job. As shown in the clip below, it all evens out eventually.
Better yet, they're not perfect. They have fights; they worry too much; and, for better or worse, they make their fair share of mistakes, from offending a mall Santa to accidentally locking their daughter, Lily, in their car. In other words: They go through the same everyday problems as we do, and we love them for it. (Heck, my parents accidentally locked me in the car once, and I turned out OK.)
And while Lily's doctor may disagree a little, Cameron and Mitchell are terrific parents. Some may label their parenting skills as overprotective -- they jump at the quietest sound coming from Lily's baby monitor (Says Cameron: "I'm like a mother bear. When I hear my cub crying, I have to run to her.") -- but they just want the best for their daughter, and apply the same kind of love they have for each other to her, if not more. We don't know which parent Lily will ultimately take after, but she'll be a lucky girl either way.
So, here's to Cameron and Mitchell, the best -- not to mention funniest -- couple on television, who every Wednesday night make us more than happy to be part of their family.
Modern Family is like 'Everybody Loves Raymond'...EVERY LINE IS FUNNY! Gloria is hilarious and wow what an actress. And that Manny cracks me up too. The straight couple, Claire and Phil are the best also. Actually, all the actors are exceptional. But, Cam and Mitchell make the show. Their relationship is done so tastefully. Folks, if you haven't seen this show, watch!! You'll then understand why all of us are raving about it!!!!!!!
They are NOT the couple we can all relate to. Hello they're GAY and no matter how many times AOL keeps telling us how normal and even "cool" that is people don't buy it. So STOP shoving it down our throats
I LOVE this show. The gym scene is one my favorites as well. Oh..or the one where the girlfriend is jealous of the new baby. Their facial expressions are so dramatic and accurate. It's a show that my 17 year old son and I ALWAYS watch together....and THAT'S saying something, to have a show your teenager will watch with you...laughing together.
I think the point of the whole story of cast the first stone was that NONE of us is without sin. Only God is without sin and that we shouldn't judge each other and "cast stones" whether they are words or objects. Jesus spent his life with people who were less than perfect.
As for sin no more...It is a reminder that we should try and be out best. God doesn't expect perfection...He is perfection.
Everything is a Sin. Just because you're a sinner, doesn't make you a bad person. Jesus would have accepted them as they are, non-judgemental and non-discriminatiing.
No Jesus would not, HE came to fulfill God's law and the resulting punishment for breaking it. Even after he said "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone", he admonished the women to "go and sin no more". I know I will get flamed but if you are going to use Jesue of the Bible as an example at least don't lie about him.
Pat, save your tired sermon for the pulpit on Sunday. Your bronze age morality is how you choose to live by. They rest of us choose to live in the 21st century. Please don't force your archaic dogma on others, who have figured out the truths of the universe.
Well I do know some of the secrets of the Universe and you are correct Matthew. In today's context as well as from the time of the Bible written by people not their God, Jesus would lovingly accept this couple.
Woody: I hope you don't eat any pork or shrimp or crabmeat or lobster. The rules in the Bible on that stuff I guess also still apply in this century, right?
You will not be judged by your 21st century beliefs but by the word of God. Homosexuality is sin. Sin is such an abomination to the Father that He sent his only Son to die so that we could be rid of it eventually. What Father would send His only child to die for anything unless it was extremely serious and the only way? People choose to accept belief systems because they condone certain life styles. Religion is man's way to God. It didn't work in the past and it doesn't work now. Jesus is the only way to heaven. He loves you enough to die for you, why don;t you give Him a chance. You won't be disappointed. God bless you.
I love this show! And Mitch and cam are soo funny!I loved the first episode when they introduce he family to Lily and THe Lion King starts playing!Mitch says"Turn it off" Cam says"I can't ,it's who I am!And Phil-but Mitch and Cam are the new Loveable couple on TV!And to Pat,jeez-stop watching the show-leave the show alone!WE LOVE IT AND TO MITCH AND CAM..YOU GO!
Why does Hollywood always need to portray Gay characters as stereotypes? For once, why not have two regular men who happen to be gay, instead of two Gay, high-strung clowns? But I guess the straight audience wouldn't think they were funny.
Have you watched the show? Do you know many gay men? I know many and in fact the are not stereotypical. There are gay men just like Cam and Mitchell. Also I know gay man that are so flamboyant they act more like a woman than me. Watch the show before you judge. This show is hysterical and honestly, as funny as these two are they are the most functional couple on the show!
