'Family Ties' Star Brian Bonsall Sentenced For Assault

Former child star Brian Bonsall was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to charges connected to a fight with a friend last year in Colorado, according to the Associated Press. In December, Colorado Daily reported that Bonsall -- little Andy Keaton on 'Family Ties' -- was taken into custody at the home of friend Micheal Trujillo, where both had been drinking heavily and arguing. According to the arrest report, Bonsall struck Trujillo with a broken stool but remembers nothing.

"Bonsall then said that he and Trujillo both are bipolar and like drugs," according to a report taken at the time. "Bonsall said that he takes a lot of drugs and sometimes those drugs make him forget things."

Bonsall, 28, entered his plea Thursday in Boulder to felony menacing and third-degree assault.

The actor also pleaded guilty to violating terms of probation stemming from a 2007 assault on his girlfriend. On that charge, Bonsall was sentenced to five days in a work-release program and 40 hours of community service.

Since playing Michael J. Fox's little brother on 'Family Ties,' Bonsall has bounced around Boulder, graduating from high school and getting arrested several times.

A Boulder County district judge agreed to give Bonsall a deferred sentence on the felony menacing charge, reports the Denver Post. Bonsall's felony won't show up on his permanent record if he stays out of trouble for a period of two years.

Wow, Brian, you turned out to be such a winner. Your mother must be so proud. I don't know what's more appealing, the god-awful tattoos, which will look just great when you're in your 50s, or the hideous lip rings. It makes for a great mug shot though! You just look at that picture and think, "Really? That guy got into a fight?" Deal with your obvious issues, Brian.

Linda you need to look again, those are rings going through his bottom lip, hence LIP RINGS. I have no idea where you got the idea those are fangs, if they were they would need to be seriously bent for him to close his mouth and have his lips close normally and still be showing off his "teeth".

As for the tats, well placed ones that also have some meaning to you are acceptable, but his tats on his neck I doubt have any meaning other than to piss off society and look like a hoodlum (which he is doing a great job of doing BTW).

While I have a tattoo it's placed in an covered location and has deep meaning for me, so when I'm asked why I have it when I reach 50 or so, my answer won't be "Oh I got it because I was high that day and thought it would be cool to show how much of an individual I was...".

Rehab only works if you want to go, otherwise it's just a waste of time. The addict has to have reached the bottom of the barrel. The pull to use drugs is so powerful that unless you've been there you can't understand what it's like. Families are devastated by this and there is no short haul. It's all long, long, long haul. Pray for this guy.

It is so sad to see young start whom we admired years ago are getting into trouble due to dunking and doing drugs. Is it because of money? Their parents did not instill good discipline in them? Parents need to be questioned, where were they during the first eigth years of the child life? If you discipline your child properly when small, that child will lived by it. Parents are responsible for their child late years action
Teach your child the right thing to do while small.

it sounds like he is dealing with a disorder and an addiction..
that has to be hard.. he does have to want to take control of his life.. you can only pray and hope he finds a ritious path to a good life. No chaos, no ugliness, just peace for him and his loved ones.

How refreshing! I get so tired of the judgemental and vituperative remarks I see on these kind of things. I agree with you...pray for the guy. His methods of finding happiness are obviously not working, and he is living a painful life. Yes. Pray for him...and everyone else, for that matter. Thank you for your kind remark. I don't get these judges. Now I do believe the fight was a result to two drug addicts so he is only 50% responsible for it, but the judge in this case should mandate him to 90 days in a rehab facility and then probation. A rehab stint would do him sdome good and if you think I am wrong look at the bigger train wreck named Lindsay Lohan who should have been put in a facility by a judge.
