Kate Gosselin Is Doing It for Single Moms Everywhere

Kate Gosselin is tired. The reality TV mom has been crisscrossing America this past month balancing work ('Dancing With the Stars') in Los Angeles and kids (8 of them) back home in Pennsylvania. These days, she's beat and is feeling the effects of being a single mom. Despite being all smiles while performing on 'Dancing' the night before, Gosselin was in New York City talking to 'Today' on Tuesday, making it clear her life has been no cakewalk of late.

"It's a struggle to be here, to be anywhere," she told Meredith Vieira, struggling to stay composed. "The emotion that you see is because I'd rather be at home with them. I have to work, I have to provide for them. It's a struggle that every working mom, especially single moms, go through. And I'm really feeling it."

"In my heart I'm always in my kitchen baking and cooking for my kids and I'll always be there."

Gosselin responded to critics who have challenged her abilities to parent while working across the country and spending so much time traveling.

"I'm on the first flight as soon as the show lets me out," she explained. "I'm on a plane and that's my night of sleep. I get home and I dance and I'm done by the time they get home from school and I spend the rest of the week with them. It's difficult. If I had 24 hours, seven days a week with eight kids it wouldn't be enough time in my book. So, to minus out the working days is really hard, but I make the most of every minute I do have with them."

She added: "They know I have to work and they know I have to go. They don't like it, but when I'm home we make those little spots really big in our memories."

Gosselin is in the midst of a bitter divorce and custody battle with ex Jon, but so far the animosity and mud-slinging has not reached the children.

"They're strong," she told Meredith. "I don't see anything negative they've taken from this. If anything, I see the kids and I getting much closer. They're more open to me."

She said the kids understand that their parents have split up for good, but "they don't like it," adding "they still say things like, 'Oh, I wish mommy and daddy could be together,' and those sort of things."

Gosselin will learn tonight whether she'll live to dance again on 'Dancing With the Stars,' but she's just surprised to be there at all, especially since she's never taken a dance lesson in her life.

"This is like speaking Chinese for me," she said of hoofing it on live TV for millions of viewers. "It's been a great opportunity. I've learned a lot about myself. I feel like I'm a stronger person."

What she should do for moms everywhere is leave the show. She can't dance. Buzz did a better job of it then she does.

I am so offended by Kate. Real "single moms' do not live in a million dollar mansion and have drivers, nannies, cooks, and an abundance of money. They are working full time, and being a mom 24/7, and trying to figure out how to keep the lights and heat on while keeping their sanity. She should try it some time. She wouldn't last a day.

She is the one who has custody but is not there. She is the parent of eight kids but fame is her guide. These kids need a parent who is hands on and is not getting it !! She had the kids but has all the excuses to say why she is not there. When you have kids you have to be there for them. I am not saying she should not work, but you find something that you can do while beikng there. She is all ove r the country....Oh yeah in her mind she is cooking and baking for the kids and being there too ....LOL What a laugh. Let the father have them and see how quickly she will be home. It is not fair if the father is capable of being there he should have the right to have custody .

I couldn't have said it better! If she wanted to be a real inspiration to single mom's, she would go back to her nursing career and pay for day care like every other single working mom has had to do for her kids. We are supposed to feel sorry for her while she lives the lifestyle she does?? Please,,,,I just don't get how she is still on the show. Besides the whiney, annoying poor me stories, she can't dance. Sorry Kate, get off the pity parade and grow up and be a real mother.

I watched her Today Show interview this morning. After all this time and all of the interviews she's done, she still can't talk without interjecting "ums" throughout. In the very short interview this morning she repeatedly said "um". It was very annoying! Kate, we know you can't dance. Why not at least learn how to speak.

you people are so negative. you dont know this woman. she should be supported because if she did work near home she would still need help and if she sat home collecting aid you would have something to say about that too! the real issue here is jon doing NOTHING!! but he is probably your hero. if he were a decent person he would watch the kids after all kate is the only one making money. if it were jon dancing with 8 kids at home ur ignorant attitudes wouldnt be so apparent. so kate good for you, you may not win but im behind you

Didn't you ever wonder why sweet little Kate doesn't have anything to do with her parents or siblings. Do you think Kate and the kids need designer clothes and a mansion? Maybe they could live like the rest of us, within our means!!! She always wears designer clothes, and by the way she had a boob job!! Who was watching the kids when she spent several hours getting that awful hairdo.. Couldn't she just let it grow out like other people do? Not good enough for her??

I am a single mom and I do not leave my child to fly to LA and New York. I WORK everyday and try to be the best I can be. Kate is not doing anything for single moms. She is doing it because she thinks she is a star and deserves to be on TV. I do not watch TLC because of her and have not watched one episode of DWTS this year because she is NOT a star.
