Kate Walsh is legally a single lady now, as her divorce proceedings are finally over. The 'Private Practice' star's 14-month marriage to film executive Alex Young was officially dissolved by a Los Angeles judge this week, PEOPLE reports. As part of the divorce settlement, Young will receive $627,000 and half of the pay for work that Walsh did during their marriage.
Back in February, the former couple decided to use a rather unusual method to split their assets: a coin toss. "One-half of the community property furniture and artwork to be divided by alternating picks after the flip of a coin to determine who will pick first," the settlement agreement read.

At least it's kind of a funny way of keeping your name out there instead of all the drama that most other "Hollywood Stars" put out there just so they still have their name in the tabloids. Good luck to both of you.

KATE Walsh is not legally "single"; she is legally "divorced". Kate Goselin is not a "single" mom; she is a "divorced" mom. Single is for a person who never married.
I disagree with you Marzy... single does not refer only to someone who has never been married .. it is used to describe a persons relationship status at a given time:for example, last month I had a boyfriend, but we have recently broken up so now my relationship status is that I am SINGLE again.

Thank you for that. I heard a judge explain the difference on an NBC news show one time. These nuts just don't get it. If it is good enough for hte courts it is good enough for me and I guess you.
i am divorced and i consider myself single. So What who cares!!

14 months? Believe it or not, marriage is still considered to be a sacred union to many. Why did they waste everybodies time if they weren't serious?

Marsha, you cannot be serious. They wasted YOUR time? If you mean that, it's pathetic, just like the argument here over single vs. married. I married fairly young, and realized QUICKLY that the man was not the charmer everyone thought. He was an abusive bully. I didn't want to get a divorce because of people like you, and society in general. I didn't want to disappoint my family, so I kept trying, although when I did get the divorce, they all totally supported me. For almost 13 years, 11 for my son, we endured non-stop bullying from this man. We're in therapy now. My son's father STILL bullies and threatens him when he sees him. That is 13 years WASTED of MY life, not YOURS. I lie in bed at night crying about letting fear keep me from seeking divorce, and now, being at a certain phase in my life, SINGLE. It's not a happy feeling. But at least I don't constantly fear for my son's safety and my own. How dare you, or anyone else here, judge what you have NO IDEA about? You don't know what goes on behind closed doors. How petty to condemn someone in this way? I HAVE to call myself divorced, even though I tried 13 years? And the ex is trying to make my life hell STILL? Is that not enough hell, without your type making me wear a scarlet letter, to show the world I'm ruined goods.... not single, but UGH, a divorcee?
YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!

I am also divorced but do not consider myself single...I am DIVORCED. I guess it is a matter of perception.

Its not a matter of perception. Its a matter of people like Chuck not willing to admit they have a failed marriage.
As said earlier by post & by that judge, single = never been married. Divorced = previously married.
Plain and simple. There is NO way to misinterpret that.
Here is a reply I left to MARSHA, but all of you judgemental jerks should read it. This page made me feel sick. Poalima, Enrique, etc... Read and maybe learn that there IS a grey area between single and divorced.

Single can be usead as an availability status term, not only as a legal marital status term. Words are used to reflect changes in society. Currently, "single" means available. Although some married people consider themselves married AND single... LOL But that's a whole different word, which is,
greedy.

Seems to me like Kayte Walsh, Bed Hops like some people Bar Hop, she was hardly married before she was divorced, and then going with someone else, and now she is dating Kelsey Grammer. All within 2 years time, and who knows if there was anyone else in between. Seems like both parties here should have some concern, before burning their bridges.. Fidelity does not seem to be in these peoples vocabulary.. The morals of Alley Cats.. if the shoe fits wear it..
