As Cameron Douglas awaits sentencing this month following his arrest for drug trafficking, it's becoming clear what led him from a life of fame and fortune into one of illegal activities. My sources tell me he felt oppressed by the fame his family had achieved, and that he'd never be able to achieve anything like that on his own. Poor lad. After the jump, friends of the family give insight into what sent Cameron into a downward spiral.Dad's Fame Sent Cameron Douglas Into Drug World

Poor lad. After the jump, friends of the family give insight into what sent Cameron into a downward spiral.Cameron Douglas Blames Dad's Fame
"Both Catherine and Michael have begged the judge to be lenient and are afraid that being a celebrity kid might mean an unusually harsh sentence for Cameron to set an example," a source close to the couple tells me. "They both believe Cameron needs help, not prison."
This looks very unlikely, considering that DEA officials say that Douglas supplied over 5 pounds of meth to New York dealers for over three years. That's a huge amount, considering New York City averaged about 14 pounds in seizures since 2005.
"Cameron hated being in his famous father and grandfather's shadow, so he dropped out of that world and became a member of the underbelly of New York," a friend tells me. "A world that provided him with the one thing he so desperately wanted; to be someone other than a famous man's son."
Like they say, fame isn't everything it's made out to be. We just hope Cameron finds his way.
Will Sandra Bullock Give Pal George Lopez the Big Exclusive?
Tongues are wagging among TV sources that George Lopez might be the one to land the first big Sandra Bullock interview following all of her recent troubles.
"Everyone wants to get it -- Oprah, Matt Lauer, Barbara Walters, Lara Spencer," a TV insider tells me. "Yet you have to believe that at the moment, George Lopez is in the best position to lock it in."
And while some negative nellies are hinting that George might be using his friendship with America's sweetheart to get the interview, sources tell me this is not true. "George loves Sandra. She is like a sister to him. The last thing on his mind is ratings. He just wants to look after his friend."
And why wouldn't Sandra want to go where she knows she'll be safe and treated properly? Good for both of them.
Simon Thinks Kara's Naked Picture Is 'Desperate'
What is going on at 'American Idol'? The bandleader just quit to go to 'The Tonight Show' and now judge Kara DioGuardi strips naked for Allure magazine.
"Everything is just a little odd this year," a production source tells me about 'Idol,' which was just beaten in the ratings for the first time by 'Dancing With The Stars.'
"The whole equilibrium of the show has been thrown off by Paula leaving, Ellen joining and Simon announcing this is his last year. Kara is ambitious and sees this as her moment to turn up the heat. She thinks this is her time to set up her game even if Simon thinks it's a bit desperate."
Kara, my darling, you proved you had a good body by upstaging Bikini Girl ... and now you're naked. What's left?

Two words...Bull Crap

Bet he doesn't do drugs for one hundred twenty months or so.
He should go to prison for awhile, was it only 5 pounds of meth over a 3 yr period? If thats all it was over 3 yrs he should get a couple of yr but if it was 5 lbs every month for 3 yrs than 10 yrs is fair.

We can blame whatever we want for the crap we do . We can justify anything we do . Why is it that Mike Douglas had a famous father and it turned out ok ? Like father like son ?The bottom line is that Cameron Douglas is probably a spoil little brat who never had to work for anything because he always got whatever he wanted . Drugs are everywhere , you have to be strong enough to say no and spends your time and money elsewhere . But to blame ones problems on the fact that thier parents are famous , well that is a new bar in blame . Start over Cam and put the blame where it belongs . On you !!

Poor little baby...I'm supposed to feel sorry for this POS??? He sold Meth, he got caught, too bad, so sad, sucks to be you. I am glad he got caught. I almost lost a son to Meth. That garbage will kill you, and very quickly. So, go to jail where you belong. Hopefully the judge will see through the poor little spoiled rich boy, but my dad is a star routine and send you to a real prison, not the country club.

Nothing can make anyone go somewhere or do anything they do not want to do. Blaming his family shows that he has no insight into his own behavior and is unwilling to accept responsibility for his choices and actions. He should go to jail - using is one thing, and dealing is another.

Uh it isn't his dad or his grand dad.
There are two kinds of drugs in the world, rich people drugs, poor people drugs. Rich people can snort their high-grade quality cocaine for decades before they clean up their act, and make a full recovery. Meth gives the same "feelings"as coke time two, with ten times the brain and body rot.
Cameron was probably at a mixed party (rich and normal people) and someone gave him a few lines of METH. That white trash b***h tina digs her claws into you THE VERY FIRST TIME YOU TRY HER. All the love, money and support in the world sometimes is not enough to yank those claws out.
Jail will be good for him, but Daddy needs to hire somebody on the inside to protect him and make sure he doesnt sneak Tina in for a visit.

I am sorry but when are people going to actually take responsibility for themselves. It is my dads fault for being successful and me being a looser? Or I bought a house I could never really afford so it is the banks fault etc. So lets blame it all on someone else AND have someone bail us all out like the Government for example! Why is our country now made up of so many loosers?
Spoiled is the word! Our worst off have it better than most of those in other countries who are actually happy! Get real America!!!!

Its sad this man blames his bad behavior on his family. 5 lbs is lots of meth, that stuff will kill. I have no sympathy for him, he needs some jail time.

THERE ARE HONORABLE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN MAKING THEIR PARENTSAND THIS COUNTRY PROUD BY SERVING IN THE MILITARY AND PROTECTING THIS COUNTRY,AND WE ARE SUPPOSE TO FEEL SYMPATHY FOR THIS LOSER, BECAUSE HIS DADDYS FAME HAS "MADE" HIM NOT ONLY TURN TO DRUGS,BUT ALSO SELL TO OTHERS , I THINK NOT!!!

PLEASE what a pathetic excuse for being a failure.

Typical addict, blame everyone else.

This guy is over 30-years-old. Whatever he decides to do each day is on his own shoulders. He is a drug trafficker who has been given several chances to clean up his act and do better. It is no one's fault but his own if he turned his back on those multiple chances, and it's time to pay the piper. And if the presiding judge in this case accepted and read these letters of influence submitted by this guy's parents, he has also broken the law and should be removed from office.

Life is about the choices we make. Blame no one but yourself for the choices you make.

Poor little rich kid. It's not your fault. Blame it on the parents. What a bunch of BS. A cop out excuse. Sorry Son but everything you did you had choice. You could have chosen not to get involved but you didn't. You chose to distribute drugs and now you will pay the price for your choices.

Isn't that how it always works--the kids suffer because their parents are too busy making names for themselves and don't have time to be parents? I didn't need a spoon-feeding article like this one to figure out what makes Cameron Douglas tick.

wait i am gonna sell meth, do meth ,and buy meth cuz my dad makes more money than me. oh yeah, and my brother makes more money than me. oh one other thing,my sister is cuter than me,oh and my teacher was smarter than me,oh and dont forget my dog can run faster than me. jeez my life sucks i better do,buy ,and distribute meth! what a genius idea. it's always some one elses fault. does this sound like a lwayer talking or politician. nice, real nice. great example for our young people. oh, i forgot my lawyer makes more to!

an addict has excuses, one kind or another. a criminal has excuses one kind or another. I agree that a criminal that is an addict needs help, but our system is our system. The judge should look at all the cases in his jurisdiction and find the average time sentenced for that type of crime HE HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF and that's what the punishment should be period.
