Sad Kitten Gets a Lift From Kim Kardashian
Following up her nude
Harper's Bazaar photo shoot with a possibly Catwoman-themed jaunt while in Australia, Kim Kardashian
tweeted a new photo Sunday, featuring a whole lotta cleavage and a small kitten being dangled by the scruff of its neck.
PETA was quick to respond, in a statement to
X17online: "Kim Kardashian isn't the only person who mistakenly thinks that because a mother cat picks up her kittens by the scruff of the neck that a supportive hand under the rump isn't needed."
But more heated was the reaction from her fans after seeing the image.
Comments on the Twitpic have ranged from complimentary ("u are sooo beautiful!!!" said aleyeli09) to confused ("i hope you was not hurting that poor little kitty. im against animal cruelty," wrote Yanirislove), to angry ("This is really not a nice picture! Do you only think about yourself? You are a beautiful woman from the outside, but by the looks of this picture I am not very thrilled about the way you treat animals," said Shootinbeauty).
Kardashian has so far not responded to the criticism over the photo, nor has her sister Khloe, a PETA supporter.

This particular method of holding a cat is to prevent it from scratching you and "hand under the rump" won't suffice, as most cats will then apply their back claws to your arm or hand. When I worked at a Humane Society, we often used this type of hold for "scratchers," so everyone just calm down.

MOTHER CATS DON'T HOLD THEIR KITTENS 5 FEET IN THE AIR!!!!!!
Well,I doubt that cat was a scratcher and i doubt that was the reason she was holding it like that. The mothers only do that because they don't have hands they have paws. And it's only done when they have to move them not to pose for a picture. If, the cat was a scratcher she should have let it go instead of holding it there against it's will. And yes the hand from behind the tail of the cat with upward pressure facing away from you works quite well in those cases.
I have had lots of CATS and they do not pick up their kittens like that. To move them, which they do often to hide them, mommie cat will open her mouth and position it on the back of the neck and not by the loose skin as most people think. A person should pick a cat up and provide some body support in a cradle like manner. Been there, did that. "grams"
Once again, her father was a celebrity. Her stepfather is a celebrity. She is a product of having-too-many-cable-channels-and-not-enough-money-for-quality-television phenomenon. I heard that she was good to a stray dog on her television show. I wonder what she plans to do with the kitten...

This irks me. My friend used to this with her cat, and the cat never seemed to enjoy it. Cats like affection, not being held like a rabid animal.

Alice, no matter how much you dislike Kim Kardashian you have tio realize a few things.... 1. Cats are frequently held by the scruff of their necks, not just as kittens by their mothers but by animal rescues, Vets and owners alike. 2. This was done for a photo shoot and she doesnt have the brains to pick an animal up by the scruff unaided..someone told her to do it. 3. You need to lighten up and not hate people you dont know. The media portrays people in a manner so thet you continue to buy magazines or click to read their gossip links. Its all about the money. The cat is fine.
CZNola That kitten is still young , but is to heavy to be held in that manner, it hurts. A full size cat you would never hold in a suspended fashion. You can scruff a heavier cat but it should be done on a surface. with kittens a hormone is usually released which numbs the pain they may feel when being carried in this way. Sorry, don't tell me that kitten didn't cry when held like that.

Why do people think they know more than people who handle animals every day? I work in a vets office and we hold the kittens exactly the same way. It does NOT hurt them. We would never do anything to harm or hurt animals and its silly not to take the word of professionals. The cat wasnt being abused you have to accept that this is the way things are done.
I thought she was beautiful both inside and out.
Now I know she is not. She does not seem to like cats too much.
Wish she would not do that again.
I like her alot less as of today.
She's a stupid fool. I think she'd do anything for money or attention. It's sad now she has taken to this.

as a cat lover, the only reason to ever hold a kitten or cat that way
is to control it from scratching you if you are putting it in a
carrier. It's only done for a few seconds. This is is totally
inappropiate as she is using the poor kitten as a prop and not as a
means of necessary control.
so, everyone - should be in a huff. and for the humane society
worker..............i can't believe you think this is acceptable just
for a photo shoot. it's quite obvious she doesnt give a hoot about
the kitten. i hope you're not working with animals anymore
I am not a fan of the Kardashians at all. I have to say there is nothing wrong with the way she is holding the kitten. She is holding the kitten by the neck the way the mother of the kitten would hold it. My vet held my puppies the same.

Not particularly a cat lover, but I do know that is not the way to hold one, esp a young kitten. Perhaps someone needs to pick the twit up by the skin on the back of her neck and let her dangle, lets see if we can find someone many time larger then she is to do it. I know...a construction crane should be able to do the job.
