Kim Kardashian Growls Back About Sad Kitten Photo

She's been described as a sex kitten, wears a cat suit and makes most grown men purr, so reality TV starlet Kim Kardashian wants you to be sure she would never hurt any of her feline friends.

"Rest assured, the owner and vet were on set and showed me how to pick him up," Kardashian wrote in a blog post Monday, referring to a photo showing her holding a cat by the scruff of its neck during a photo shoot. "The cat was not harmed in any way and is perfectly fine! I love animals and would never do anything to harm any animals."

Kardashian's fan base took the prospects of animal abuse seriously, reacting negatively to the image.

Comments ranged from confused ("i hope you was not hurting that poor little kitty. im against animal cruelty," wrote Yanirislove) to angry ("This is really not a nice picture! Do you only think about yourself? You are a beautiful woman from the outside, but by the looks of this picture I am not very thrilled about the way you treat animals," said Shootinbeauty).

Representatives from animal rights groups, who normally police and condemn this type of behavior, muted their normally deafening opposition. They did not believe Kardashian, 29, was intentionally attempting to harm the cat in question. "Kim Kardashian isn't the only person who mistakenly thinks that because a mother cat picks up her kittens by the scruff of the neck that a supportive hand under the rump isn't needed," said a representative from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). "But I'll bet plenty of fans have let her know -- nicely, we hope!" they added.

To clarify the issue, PETA stated that kittens can be suspended by the scruff of their necks, but only for a brief period of time. They did warn, however, that "the manner in which Ms. Kardashian is holding the kitten could lead others to mishandle animals."

I'm facinated that ANYONE would put their personal lives on camera.... for the world to see..seems to be a moneymaker for them though..if THAT is what it is all about..so be it...good for HER! I would NEVAH accept the mistreatment of animals...I saw no mistreatment.....only publicity. Isn't THAT what it is about with them? Sad...

I believe the cat was unhurt..I believe people overreact for their own reasons. Have had cats and dogs my whole life (am 52 now) and picked them up this way numerous times...never a whimper out of any of them...just that unconditional love they give. Much better than humans that way...........I'm just sayin'. I've never had PETA on my butt...but..I've never been in the "public" eye either..maybe THAT is why she has to respond to these ............

So much of animal sympathy is based in ignorance. This is a good example of it. If this is cruel to a cat, then every cat mother is cruel, both wild and domestic. I have had vets express their preference for this kind of handling of cats. It does NOTHING to harm the cat. Get a grip all you poorly informed knee jerkers. This is a safe and acceptable way to handle a feline.

I'll leave it to you all to duke it out over whether it's the right way or the wrong way to pick up a cat. All I can say for sure is that at one time I must have done it the wrong way because what I ended up with on the end of my arm was a shrieking, spitting, scratching and biting cat. That was about ten years ago when I was 14. Still bear the scars and have never tried to pick up any animal like that again.

The picture as usual from that family is in poor taste. Other poses could have been shot that would not carry such a angry response from all of us that own pets. Regardless of a vet being on the scene, she chose a pose in very poor taste. By the way I don't eat my salad in a buble bath.
