Susan Boyle Is Busy Writing an Autobiography

'I Dreamed a Dream' of a new book written by ... Susan Boyle? The Scottish singer will write an autobiography chronicling her rise to fame after her iconic performance of 'Dream' on 'Britain's Got Talent,' reports BBC News.

"I'm writing this book to try to show that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and I hope it will benefit other people," the 49-year-old YouTube phenom stated. 'The Woman I Was Born To Be' will be published by Transworld this autumn. Her televised performance of the classic 'I Dreamed A Dream' from the musical 'Les Misérables' has been viewed almost 350 million times since its initial broadcast.

"When I strutted on to the stage for that audition, I was a scared wee lassie, still grieving for my mother, not caring how I looked," Boyle admitted. She was equal parts criticized and adored for her matronly appearance, which created an initial sense of doubt among viewers. But when she began singing, her critics were silenced.

"I think I've grown up a lot in the last year, become more of a lady, and I'm not so frightened any more," she added.

The pressure of celebrity has been particularly hard on Boyle. She checked into The Priory Clinic, a private psychiatric clinic in London, after succumbing to intense media scrutiny and expectations that all of her performances should equal her debut. Celebrity judge Simon Cowell is criticized in the book for not protecting Boyle from the press.

"My story demonstrates that you shouldn't just look at the label, you should look at the whole person, emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, and I hope that telling it will show that dreams are not impossible, if you've got courage and a willingness to go on -- no matter what the circumstances," said Boyle.

The dance group Diversity beat Boyle in the finale of 'Britain's Got Talent,' but she parlayed her success on the show into a global singing career. Her debut album was a chart topper in both the US and her native UK. Boyle was born in Blackburn, a small industrial town in West Lothian, Scotland.
