Readers Speak: Why 'Dancing With the Stars' Made Us Ditch Team Kate
Kate Gosselin has had a rough year. After a televised and heavily scrutinized split with Jon, the father of her eight children and then a drama-ridden stint on 'Dancing With the Stars,' the reality TV star's controversial turn on the dance show (at one point, judge Bruno Tonioli called her "the super b**ch from hell") was enough to spoil some staunch Team Kate supporters for good. Just ask our Pop Chorus, who weighed in after Kate's Tuesday night departure from 'DWTS.'
Here, two readers tell us exactly why 'Dancing With the Stars' forced their resignation from Team Kate, and one admits she's still hanging on by a thread.
Kate Did This to Herself by Hilary E. Pyo
Once a happy woman with a large, loving family, Kate Gosselin has undeniably fallen into some personal trouble this past year. From her marriage woes to the badgering paparazzi, this woman is constantly bombarded with drama. In the days of the delightful family show, 'Jon and Kate Plus 8,' I couldn't help but like the Kate. She seemed very loving to her children as well as her husband, despite some slight jabbing and bickering. With a quick wit and a no-nonsense attitude, Kate appeared to have her life under control, and the family seemed content.
When John and Kate's marriage began to fall apart,
I supported Kate and her constant intentions to keep the family in financial comfort. Several episodes showed the teary-eyed Kate keeping a happy face for her children. I pitied this poor woman who was losing her stable life with her husband. For months after the separation, the paparazzi and tabloids exploited her unceasingly. She could not escape from the public eye, no matter how badly she wanted to hide.
Then 'Dancing With the Stars' announced the casting for this season and my entire opinion of Kate changed. Maybe she needed money to help with her eight children, but why would she plunge into
another instance of public humiliation?
Why would this woman, who admits she can't dance and is already receiving endless media attention, sacrifice herself to a dancing competition?
Kate has transformed into a new person, and not only as a result of her blond extensions, but her entire personality is unrecognizable. The woman who once would not put up with garbage from anyone, is begging for public attention. Now that she's finally eliminated from the 'Dancing,' she needs to give up her role as a reality star and focus on what she truly needs to be -- a mother.
Kate Lost Her Fire, but Not My Fandom...Yet by Sandra Shabazz
As a mother of six, I have often found myself on Team Kate. I know the struggles of having a brood. I was a constant fan of 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' since its inception and was deeply saddened to see the Gosselins' marriage come to an end. However, despite all of the negative press Kate has received over the years -- some claiming her a diva, others a monster-mom --
I've been able to sympathize with her struggles and even relate to some of her bite. Over this past week, my feelings have changed.
While watching Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani perform the foxtrot, it was obvious that the stresses of the last few weeks had taken a toll on Kate. She is normally quick to bite back on personal attacks but seemed to have lost her fight. Reports were coming out of the woodwork that Kate had no motivation and had to be constantly pushed by her 'DWTS' partner. Whether it was Jon's lame absent mother lawsuit or the constant TV appearances where she had to defend her money making methods,
Kate seemed to flat-out quit 'Dancing With the Stars.' I wonder if she deliberately danced poorly to be voted off so she could return to Pennsylvania and hopefully silence her critics.
As a parent who believes tough love is sometimes necessary -- and a woman who wouldn't deal with a dead-beat, philandering father -- I believe it is our gumption that gets us through juggling parenthood and maintaining households. I hope Kate takes this time to rediscover that fight or she is in for a world of hurt when those teenage years arrive.
'Dancing' Showed a New Side of Kate by Lori Peters
I have always been a fan of Kate Gosselin until she left me with a bitter taste in my mouth after seeing her scowls on 'Dancing With the Stars.'
I thought she was a great mother with so much love in her heart -- it's tough being a mother of
two, but Kate handled eight little ones. (She also kept her house immaculate!) I admired her.
I didn't believe the rumors of Kate not wanting her babysitter, Aunt Jodie, to be paid on 'Jon and Kate Plus 8.' Now I have to wonder if Kate really did want Jodie out of her spotlight. I've seen a different on-camera side of Kate telling her dance partner, Tony Dovolani that she needed to
be in control.
Tony was her dance coach, and she needed to listen to him; her dancing left a lot to be desired. It seemed like Tony was dragging along an old Raggedy Ann doll when trotting with Kate. I don't blame him for trying to quit on Kate. How much could the poor man take? He struggled to teach Kate the steps, but she critiqued his technique.
Kate seemed so unhappy and lifeless on 'Dancing.' I don't know if it was because she missed her time with her kids, but she said the kids loved watching her on the show. I guess not everyone is good at all things, but Kate said she was 100 percent into 'DWTS,' and she has always seemed to do well at everything she's works at. I always thought of Gosselin as a winner. She seemed to hold her head up high after her troubles with her husband Jon. He cheated on her, but Kate kept a strong outlook and continued on as "Supermom." But Kate lost my vote and confidence. I sure hope she doesn't take her being kicked off 'Dancing With the Stars' out on those precious children.

Why are people so infatuated with this train wreck of a human being?

I wonder that myself. I didn't like her on Jon & Kate, and I absolutely HATED her on DWTS. I don't know why she wasn't voted off first. She has no personality and can't dance a lick. And watching how the control freak acted with Tony just sealed the deal.
JUST go away. You, Kate, have no talent, no personality, ya cant dance, and you arent much of a mother. PLEASE, get over yourself, and just GOOOOOO away!!!

Like I have said all the long, if she needs money then she should go back to being a nurse! After all there is a nation wide shortage of nurses so she could find a job any where.

sevey 95 Do you have any idea how much a nurse makes??? What about daycare?? You could watch them. You know nothing...And, she would be working just as much.... Leave her alone..
She has a nursing degree, she should use it, she HAS help with her children, she has babysitters, which I'm sure are being paid by someone else. Or she could go on welfare, I'm sure our tax money is paying for something for her family anyway.
I used to watch Jon and Kate - but only to watch that trainwreck. Kate is a hideous person who treated her husband like staff and her children like weights around her neck. My only question is - why did Jon put up with it for so long?? The poor kids - they can't escape their mother.

Does anyone but me remember Kate wanted Jon to QUIT his job to help her with the kids?? Somehow this is all turned around to make Jon the bad guy. In the begining they were to share custody at the kids house. Somehow all this has changed to make Jon the bad guy.
Nobody but Kate herself is to blame for her elimination from DWTS. Her crappy, hypocritical attitude, her sour puss face, her clomping around the dance floor like a club footed ogre, no grace, no sense of timing, no rythem, it was painful to watch. She has absolutely NO talent and is NOT a star and can blame no one but herself! Whining and making excuses is her only talent. She needs to go back to obscurity where she belongs, go back to her nursing job, take care of those 8 kids she claims to miss so much and stay out of the public eye. The majority of us have seen way more of her then we can stand. Lots of people raise their many children without reality shows or any publicity seeking involved. This nonsense that her kids miss the TV crews, live for Monday nights to watch her dance is her sick ways trying to gain public support and sympathy. Its appalling and she should be ashamed! "Go home Kate and be the ordinary person you actually are and stop using your kids and pretending your somebody you are not!!!

BarbaraAnn,
Your description of Kate Gosselin and her actions, right on!, totally clear and to the point, and totally correct. You said it all, without stooping to name calling. Points!!
My sentiments exactly.
Does anyone remember the tabloids title after KG's DWTS. She cried," I'm so lonely". With eight kids how can you be lonely, oh I get it, you are lonely for a man's arms around you or dancing with a man or something with a man......Kate which ryhmes with hate, which ryhmes with mate, which ryhmes with fate and madam or dam mad you sealed your own fate. Stop the crying, go fix the oil spill.

I didn't watch Jon and Kate and I don't watch Dancing With the Stars but I watch the Apprentice and some other shows. Everybody hated Omarosa on The Apprentice but as soon as she was gone the ratings dropped. The same happened on other shows. People like to watch the person they hate. I remember when Ali was a young boxer. Some people hated him and bought tickets just to see him lose. He said he didn't care why they bought the tickets as long as they did.

Is that really true? I hated Omarosa on The Apprentice and was glad she was gone. I must be one of the few people in America that doesn't get off on watching people have fights and arguments. So many people say ratings went up or down based on this or that but DWTS is a terrific show, say what you will, I think people who wouldn't normally watch tuned in to see what mayhem Kate would open up, but as for ratings dropping after she's gone, that only means it dropped back to the already huge audience before she ever arrived on the scene.
I just want to say that while I don't care for the antics of Jon, Kate was mean to him while they were married, and seem unhappy in her life as a mother and wife. In recent years we have seen many families filled with large amounts of multiplies. And I don't see them parading their children in the publics face constantly. And they also seem to be making a nice life for themself. I recently met the Dilly Sextuplets who are thirteen, and they were nice wonderful people, with no camera following behing them, and they manage to make it and their kids will be able to go to college. Kate is money hungrey and obessed with being a "star" and it seem at all cost she is willing to get, a kids, marriage, and herself have been scarficed.

Gosselin is in a world of hurt created by nobody but herself. Obviously "celeb" status is beyond her abilities just as dancing and being a personality is. She has done pretty well financially so now is the time to go back to being Gosselin. The money she has made can beinvested and I am sure she would find work as a nurse. I am sure her departure from the celeb market will not upset too many people and likely benefit her children and herself. As for finding a Hollywood boyfriend I hate to think what she could end up with.

kate gosslin needs to go away. dull, boring, can't dance, looked ridiculous, i don't care how many kids you have that is no excuse for a reality show. i don't care. for heavens sake crack a smile it won't distract from your money. it will at least help you appear a tad softer. she's a hard person. listen people most of us have had bad husbands that cheated and try to make money off us and try to take our kids away from us. it's life. kate doesn't have any worse or harder a life than the rest of us. this is no big deal. neither is she.

i never watched jon and kate either i dont know looking at ugly people just aint my style and she kinda favors leif garret if you look at her close enough

Some people have called Kate a "train wreck" Well a train wreck can't dance either. But most train wrecks are accidents and nobodies fault. This train wreck however has been her own fault. She alone owns this one. So as fascinating as train wrecks are eventually everyone leaves. And it time for everyone to leave and turn the lights off on this one.
