John Mayer a Twitter Quitter?
John Mayer may have another breakup coming soon. This time, however, it's not with some starlet or supermodel; it's with
Twitter. "Every night for the last two weeks, I think about canceling Twitter. It's over," he declared during Thursday's keynote Q&A at the ASCAP Expo, a three-day conference at Los Angeles' Renaissance Hollywood Hotel held by the performing rights organization for songwriters, composers and producers.
Mayer's relationship with the social networking site has been a very public and devoted one, as he has more than three million followers. But the singer has clearly changed his tune from the days when he would seemingly tweet his every unfiltered thought. "The only positive thing on Twitter is saying 'Thank you'," he said, "and directing [followers] to something cool and important."
Mayer didn't confess the reason for his possible defection during the 90-minute interview, which focused primarily on his creative process, but he hinted that the amount of negative responses had something to do with it. "Why do I want more haters? If someone had told me when I signed up I'd get half a million haters ... It's all about the approval," Mayer said. Instead of seeking approval via Twitter, Mayer said he "might as well spend time making a sandwich or building a [model] ship." In all seriousness, he added that he planned to spend his downtime working with NCIRE, the Veterans Health Research Institute. The organization helps war vets adjust to life upon returning back home, including dealing with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
Mayer stressed that he'd like his days of seeking approval to be over in other areas of his life as well, especially in his songwriting and performing. His goal is to get to the point where he can disregard the "excessive need for external validation." In fact, as he gets ready to head back out on the 'Battle Studies' tour this weekend, he told the audience he had a new goal: "I'm going to experiment with not totally considering all the time what people are thinking of me while I'm playing." Watch
his tweets to see how well he succeeds.

John has found out what the rest of know - that Twitter is for kids and idiots. To tell the world every single thought or when you do anything at all is just toxic to any sense of well being. It simply doesn't feel good in an adult long term way.

And sharing your opinion on a blog differs how?
"It simply doesn't feel good in an adult long term way..." to be a hypocrite.

There is some kind of payoff...when people take the time to reply to something in either a negative or positive way; it must have some meaning to them, even if it is to boost their egos to cut somebody else down...

It seems there are a lot of people hating on John these days. Apparently he rubs some of you the wrong way, which means he got your attention. Now just shift that attention over to his music and see what he really has to say.

Apparently someone is interested in what he has to say. You all apparently read this article and he has over three million people paying attention to him on Twitter. No one cares? Right.

OKay first off John I and the rest of your Twitter JM fam(as we call ourselves) love you. Haters gon' hate. They are just hating why? because there is obviously something worth hating on. It's jealousy that fuels these thoughts from people, and know that you have millions of fans behind you. We'll miss you greatly if you decide to leave the twitter world, sometimes your tweets are just the laughter we need on a morning that lasts all afternoon ;-)
(this will be a multiple part post.)

As for the haters on this forum. You badmouth him for calling other people names and yet here you are calling him a "retard" "idiot," with savant attached no less. You should be ashamed, these are real disorders that real people have and should not be used as an insults because people actually suffer from these (for a lack of a better word)ailments/disorders.
You know hypocrisy is just a legacy to indecency. And by hating John for supposedly calling people names and having only "tiny thoughts" makes you nothing but what you are supposedly attempting to fight against with your cruel words.

As for John being a third rate musician, he could not and would not have been able to work with the likes of Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, B.B. king, and John Scofield (and receive their approval) if he was anything short of amazing.

You can dislike him for his sometimes off color remarks (which he continuously apologizes for and shows genuine remorse, for if he were the jerk many seem to think he is he would not even bother), and you have a right to those opinions. But you cannot deny that he has extreme talent, and if you do not think so then I am afraid you do not know much about what true musical greatness both looks and sounds like.
