Kristin Chenoweth 'Glee'-ful to Be Back on Broadway

Pint-sized powerhouse Kristin Chenoweth is back on Broadway in 'Promises Promises' opposite Sean Hayes (Jack from 'Will & Grace'). Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who brought 'Chicago' and 'Hairspray' to the big screen, describe this pocket-dynamo (4'11"!) perfectly -- "We continue to be overwhelmed by the size of the talent that comes out of this petite woman." The Emmy and Tony Award winner has starred in 'The West Wing' and 'Pushing Daisies' on TV, as well as 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' and 'Wicked' on Broadway.

Chenoweth recently talked to PopEater about her dependence on Rolos, 'Glee' and unrequited love.

You're in rehearsals (for 'Promises Promises') right now.
I'm exhausted, but it's a good exhaustion because you know you're doing good stuff. The show's going really well, so it's worth it. But I am eating a lot of chocolate to keep myself going.

Which chocolate?
York Peppermint Patties, my friend.

Anything else?
Unfortunately yes. I also like Rolos and Reese's Pieces. They all come in minis, and I have about four Rolos a day and a Peppermint Pattie and a couple of Reese's thrown in.

That's not so bad.
It's terrible! But I do burn it off.

You're here to tell me that Sean Hayes is awful to work with.
Can't stand him! I'm trying to get him fired. I will tell you that I've never been happier on stage with a leading man. Actually, I've got two great leading men. I've also got Tony Goldwyn. My life really sucks. I'm playing a different kind of role, which is why I did it. I think people are used to me being the clown and I'm not. I'm a woman with some pain and some issues, unrequited love.

Your character, April Rhodes, is returning to 'Glee.'
Yes, next week. I love April Rhodes!

Any possibility your character will become a regular?
I don't know. I'd love that. Ryan Murphy wrote the part for me. I'd love to be a pop-up character. I think 'Glee' is groundbreaking, because it's made choir cool again and it's something that the whole family can watch and walks that edge so well. You have Jane Lynch's character, who's so fantastically wrong, and Matthew Morrison, who is the heart of the show, and then you have all these talented kids, so there's something for everyone.

You must have been like a rock star to the kids.
They were so gracious and sweet when I showed up. They were like, "Can we take our picture with you?" And I was like, "No. Can I take my picture with you?" I hope I inspire them as much as they inspire me.

You were a judge on 'American Idol' this season. You didn't like it, right?
Oh, I liked it. I just wouldn't want to do it full-time. I don't want to tell people they're not good. It's just hard. Plus I just think, "Who am I to say?" Bette Midler is one of my favorite performers of all-time, and I remember reading a story that her voice teacher in Hawaii said she'd never make it and I just think I don't want to be that person who tells the next Bette Midler that she's never going to make it.

What would you be doing if you weren't a performer?
I'd probably be a forensic scientist. I'm fascinated by why people hurt other people. I think it would be interesting to put puzzle pieces together and try and solve a crime and understand criminals and serial killers.

Do you watch a lot of crime shows?
Yes. 'American Justice,' 'I (Almost) Got Away With It,' 'Forensic Files.' Yeah, all of it.
