Docs: Bret Michaels Might Be 'Worse Than We Think'

With very little official news about
Bret Michaels's current condition trickling in, I asked a doctor what we can expect to hear in the coming days - and the news isn't good. PATH Medical Center founder Dr. Eric Braverman tells me everyone should be very, very worried about the Poison rocker.
Dr. Braverman explains, "Bret can be much worse than we think. It all depends on size of hemorrhage, where it was on the brain. Drugs, high blood pressure, cancer, liver disease from alcoholism, cocaine -- [they] are all factors that can hinder a recovery process."

Yet Dr. Braverman reminds me, "It is gloomy, but some people do recover from this."
Dr. Braverman has not treated Michaels but is a leading expert in the field. He warns, "We don't know the status, but as a rule, it is frequently grave."
Friends of the singer tell me they are preparing for the worst.
"The hope and optimism everyone originally had is fading as we all start to understand the long term effects of what has happened. Now we are just praying."
The Poison singer suffered a "massive subarachnoid hemorrhage" late Thursday evening and was rushed to the hospital, where he was quickly put in intensive care. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location with slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness.
"He is lucky to be alive, and if God gives him another chance you can bet he isn't going to waste it," says a source close to Bret.
According to Michaels'
Facebook page, he "remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance. Further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding."
"Please remember Bret is, and always has been, a fighter and survivor and is under the best medical care possible," the update added.
Just before his hospitalization, Michaels wrote on his
blog that he still wasn't felling well after undergoing an appendectomy on April 13.
"I'm not 100% yet ... I have to get my blood sugar back in order, because it's been all over the place because every day I've been real active and you're not supposed to move around yet."

Definitely NOT enough specific medical info to speculate about poor Bret's overall prognosis to any degree of positive or negative for me.
With that said, all one can do is hope for the best. Sure looks though like his recent appendectomy op was a primary contributor (anesthesias/various anticoags from the actual op) and his diabetic instabilities only added to the situation.
I wish people wouldn't take diabetes so lightly- it is not a death sentence if you stay on top of it- unfortunately- too many either do not, or continue the bad habits. Very sad, and way too young.
Get well soon.

More speculation. Why not just wait to get the info instead of talking to doctors who don't know specifics. Every case is different. My thoughts are filled with Bret's health and his family's pain. Keep the faith

I recovered fully...a miracle from God my maker, from a cerebral aneurysm that burst, hemorraghed, and healed. So I'll be praying that he will also be healed and experience his Creator on a deeper level. After near-death experience and the peace, I know God is in the healing business still and for Bret next. keep the Faith everyone and strengthen it

This doctor speculating on someone he is not treating is disgusting and unprofessional. Particularly bringing up drugs and alcohol

Never followed your toonage Bret but respect you Big Time for following your dream and achieving all that you have. Please stick around and keep up what you ostensibly are here for. MUSIC! I've been on a 40 year trip of the pills and powders and liquid refreshments and am fightin' hard to leave all, not most of it, behind. It's not a smoothly paved road. I speak from experience. Get better, downshift and enjoy the gorgeosity we don't see when we're on Dream St. You're in my prayers, Bro. GET WELL & STAY THERE!!!

If you're Rob from Naughty & Nice, please get them to stop adding useless articles. This is why there are so many incorrect rumors out there. Yes, it could be really bad but that doctor hasn't read his chart. AND if it is BAD, then give Bret and his family a break. This is not the time for sensationalism.
i this bad my sister right is sicu intentsive care with a brain vessel which popped almost 3 weeks ago and she is still fighting for recovery. she now able move around in her bed but her vital sign are stable
My husband had a devestating stroke on March 13,2010 just a few weeks ago. He can not speak and his right side has been affected. He understands what you say and what is going on around him. Just wanted to share that I'm kinda in the same boat as the family. Being worried, afaid to leave him, and all the other things that go along with having someone you love in that condition. I'm thinking and praying for your family also.
One other thing, they said diabetes played a part in what happened to you. Everyone that has diabetes and the family of them take this problem seriously.
I'm praying for you and trying to take inspiration from you too.
Thank you for your beautiful music.
