Katie Holmes to Play Jackie O

Katie Holmes is preparing for a role she seems destined to play -- iconic first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.

The actress has signed on to star in 'The Kennedys,' an eight-hour mini series premiering in 2011 on the History Channel, according to Access Hollywood.

She will star alongside Greg Kinnear, who will play John F. Kennedy, and Tom Wilkinson, who will play father Joe Kennedy, in the project. Barry Pepper will play the role of Robert Kennedy.

The series will focus on the Kennedy family -- a glamorous story that ended in tragedy for John and Robert, who were killed by gunmen. Jacqueline went on to marry Greek millionaire Aristotle Onassis, earning the nickname "Jackie O."

Holmes has a smile like the former first lady, and a similar sense of fine clothing. Actress Jeanne Tripplehorn recently depicted Jacqueline Kennedy on the small screen in HBO's 2009 flick 'Grey Gardens.'

This has got to be a joke, right? I can't believe that Holmes was chosen. She should stick to "acting" in the pieces of fluff that make up her "career." There are so many other talented actresses who would have done justice to the part. What a waste of time and money.

Jackie was the only first lady I ever admired. She can never be duplicated and Katie Holmes would be the wrong actress to portray her.

Katie was great in Mad Money, it's a very funny movie, I loved it so much that I bought the dvd, Queen La is also very good in it. If they pay close attention to the clothes that Jackie O wore, then the series should be ok, but the key thing that will take the viewer back in time is her clothes, and of course the cars that they drove. Jackie spoke with such a soft voice that we all thought it was just totally fake and it probably was, but we loved her anyway. We all wore the famous 'pillbox' hat that she made famous, and we all wore her "A-line" skirts and dresses, and we all wore the chunky 'Cuban heel' shoes she wore. Oh those were the days, I loved those clothes and shoes!!! Take me back there!!! =D

I'm going to be ill...!!! This is HORRIBLE casting for Jackie O!!! My disappointment in television keeps growing!!! Katie Holmes doesn't exude grace, like Jackie. Katie Holmes' acting isn't that good. There are other actresses who are more capable and would fit the part far better than, Katie 'the bland' Holmes!!! This is downright disrespectable. I mean...I can't believe that the 'Scientologists' would allow her to play a devout Catholic??? I guess if enough money is at the table actors will disrespect anyone.
