Olivia Munn on Nude PETA Ad: 'What's the Problem?'
Olivia Munn's
nude PETA ad calling for a circus boycott caused quite the stir on the Internet yesterday. To clear up a few things (like, um, why is she naked?), the lovely host of G4's 'Attack of the Show' -- who also appears in 'Date Night' and 'Iron Man 2,' natch -- chatted with PopEater via e-mail, even responding to one reader's query of how people can do more to help the cause.
Read on for the full interview.
So what's with the nudity? No question it's a great ad and you look stunning, but while nudity is an obvious choice for PETA's "I'd rather be naked than wear fur" campaign, the connection here is a little more baffling. What was PETA's pitch?
The campaign was never a "nude campaign," and I wasn't naked on set at all. In that one shot, the way I was sitting and the way the tank-top hung on me, it appeared like I was nude. The "natural state" does tie into the campaign because I'm asking everyone to help keep elephants in their natural state and out of the circus. They shouldn't be chained and beaten and electroshocked to dance around on a ball. And I understand the "nude" question that people have -- how does having a billboard with me looking like I posed nude help elephants? It doesn't directly help them, no. But, if this billboard with me on it helps get more eyes on the issue, gets people to stop going to the circus and I didn't get naked or compromise myself at all to do it, then what's the problem? I understand the question, but now that it's answered, I hope we can all spend more time trying to educate people on the abuse of all of the animals in the circus.
One commenter, Rita, wants to know: "How can we help, Olivia? I used to like the circus, but now I just have to make an effort not to cry when I see one in town. But what can we do? Not going to the circus is a step, but what else can we do?"
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey are coming into LA in July and myself, PETA and anyone else who can come are going to protest in front of the Staple Center and let everyone know NOT to go in. We're going to try and look at every person in the eye and ask them not to go in. So, if you want to do something, spread the message and come down with us. But -- it's not about being angry or mean to anyone. It's about making a personal connection with people and hoping to appeal to their hearts.

I think you're on to something!
both the circus and zoo are wrong for the 21st century.a few hundred years ago access to books and pictures was limited.today you can find more information in a matter of seconds.i think any form of media is correct to eliminate this cruel life of captive wild animals.

She's not naked enough for me for the message to get through.

I'm sorry PETA, but there are not many elephants left out there for the poachers to kill. There isn't enough ivory to be taken by killing elephants. Look up the Cole Brothers, the Shriners. Even the New England event called King Richard's Fairre. They have elephant, lion and tiger breeding camps. They are saving these wild creatures.
I don't care what you think because these animals in the shows & circuses are RARELY treated the way you claim. Do you think you could take care of a 500 lb. baby? Where would you and your naked protesters keep these animals? They get a nice loving family and good food to eat and shelter from the predators. In the wild, they would be killed quicker than you could put your clothes back on.

peta would just kill them. "put them out of their misery" as they would say. these animals would die as soon as taken out of the circus whether put in the wild or not. petas more interested in the publicity than the welfare of the animal.
Two idiots in a row. Did you guys drop out of the same school?
Im sorry but PETA is the most bullsh*t organization EVER in existance. Worse they themselves are exploiting animals far wrose than restaurants and the SeaWorld and the likes. Plus hyporcrytes. They once had a huge 'event' in an LA Expo where they were eating lobster which was cooked traditionally. Meanwhile they used expense money to pay for 'humane' electro shock cooks which supposely killed the lobsters 'humanely' before cooking them. Funny thing was the special cookers never got there so they ate them 'traditionally' anyway.
PETA should say 'we love animals...unless we're hungry'

harold and tlakota35...I am not talking about fetuses...I am talking about children already here who are intrusted with people who are suppose to care for them and they end up dead...These kids have a name and they are all over the news...a fetus that is still in someone elses body is not your business....or...the business of anyone in washington...

Rarely?I don't think so ...it just hasn't been news worthy...things are changing..anyway...if you think seeing elephants in tutu's is entertaining then you are just...a redneck,or low life....

Stop with the ellipses. Honestly. Your arguments aren't convincing and turn me away from PETA.The ad as well.
I don't admire PETA or the celebrities who appear in their ads. They are doing nothing to help animals and their involvement is self-serving. Protesting and spending money on ads is a waste of resources. If they really cared, they would spend their resources rescuing animals instead of on an elaborate showcase designed to bolster their image. They are arrogant and seem to forget than humans are animals as well.
...harold...I am not a "Peta type"...whatever that means....I care about the treatment of animals,period...you don't...You "save the fetus people" have no room in your heart for anything else because you are FAKES!If you walked in the shoes of some of these woman you would be the first to cut and run...I have grown children and grandchildren that I wanted very much.I don't tell woman what to do with their body or their life. That is between them and God ...not you...

Heaven forbid they should learn about prevention eh? Abortion is not birth control. People who are too lazy and selfish to prevent an unwanted pregnancy (male and female) are sickening!
As far as the animals go, most people will never see one alive if not for zoos and circuses. The answer is kind treatment. Anything which is alive should be treated kindly, and some of these things are to be eaten> Thank you Temple Grandin for the means to insure kind treatment of cows which are intended as food.

Now if the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Agriculture) would stop people from killing all the cotton plants, maybe everybody would have to go naked because there would be no fabric to make clothes with.

All it made me want was to see the whiskerbiscuits. Thanks Olivia, I'll remember this when I deer hunt.

Rather have animals working ( circus) than a zoo where they get fat, lazy, depressed, etc..
