Olivia Munn on Nude PETA Ad: 'What's the Problem?'

nude PETA ad calling for a circus boycott caused quite the stir on the Internet yesterday. To clear up a few things (like, um, why is she naked?), the lovely host of G4's 'Attack of the Show' -- who also appears in 'Date Night' and 'Iron Man 2,' natch -- chatted with PopEater via e-mail, even responding to one reader's query of how people can do more to help the cause.

So what's with the nudity? No question it's a great ad and you look stunning, but while nudity is an obvious choice for PETA's "I'd rather be naked than wear fur" campaign, the connection here is a little more baffling. What was PETA's pitch?
The campaign was never a "nude campaign," and I wasn't naked on set at all. In that one shot, the way I was sitting and the way the tank-top hung on me, it appeared like I was nude. The "natural state" does tie into the campaign because I'm asking everyone to help keep elephants in their natural state and out of the circus. They shouldn't be chained and beaten and electroshocked to dance around on a ball. And I understand the "nude" question that people have -- how does having a billboard with me looking like I posed nude help elephants? It doesn't directly help them, no. But, if this billboard with me on it helps get more eyes on the issue, gets people to stop going to the circus and I didn't get naked or compromise myself at all to do it, then what's the problem? I understand the question, but now that it's answered, I hope we can all spend more time trying to educate people on the abuse of all of the animals in the circus.
One commenter, Rita, wants to know: "How can we help, Olivia? I used to like the circus, but now I just have to make an effort not to cry when I see one in town. But what can we do? Not going to the circus is a step, but what else can we do?"
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey are coming into LA in July and myself, PETA and anyone else who can come are going to protest in front of the Staple Center and let everyone know NOT to go in. We're going to try and look at every person in the eye and ask them not to go in. So, if you want to do something, spread the message and come down with us. But -- it's not about being angry or mean to anyone. It's about making a personal connection with people and hoping to appeal to their hearts.

Wearing a tank top...with no panties??? C'mon, Olivia, you can do better than that! You were naked as a newborn baby and PROUD of it! :D You looked good, but rather than the elephants in the background, a couple of camels would have been more appropriate. :)

objectifying women and hurting animals are both wrong. So why promote saving animals by degrading women. People who want animals to be helped don't want to see nude women thats what men's magazines are for. I believe in animal rights but i don't believe that adding naked women to their campaign is the right way to promote their message.

I agree. I use to be a member of PETA and I'm still all for animal rights BUT PETA's "naked" ads are stupid and are not appropiate unless they are advertising in seedy clubs or porn magazines. People who financial support PETA should question how well this money is being used! The ads with clothed people holding bunnies and other animals make you really think about how wrong it is to make a coat out of them. A random person posing with no clothing(or little clothing)on is just stupid. I can't believe they feel these kinds of ads attracted supporters unless of course, there's a high support rate of teenaged boys!

The way I understand it, the Serengetti is filled with poachers who sell the tusks, hide and bones to black marketers who sell the goods to collectors, witch doctors and restaurants.
How are they in worse shape in the circus or zoo? i have seen some old footage of poorly treated animals, but not recently. TOday's regulations are monitored and the animal's keepers held responsible (in the USA) for their well-being. i can't say the same for foreign concerns.

Well I think anyone or any orgination that stands up for animal rights is OK with me. So all you stupid idiots out there that don't give a damn about animals and this world keep your pie holes closed for once.

I believe that any person or group that uses intimedation, threats and physical force to alter the legal actions of others should be defined as a terrorist and prosucuted as such...

this add is at least not as bad as hsus asking for money to support thier multi million dollar overhead just to euphinize another few thousand dogs and not give them a chance to be adopted. oh yeah i forgot peta does the same thing.

why not monitor the care of circus animals instead of trying to shut down the circus altogether?
peta has stupid ads. i mean why just find something else to use instead of nudity. no that i mind seeing olivia nude. its just that peta don't make sense using anybody nude. lets feel sorry for the animals. sorry but i think humans treat each other worst than animals. not trying to sound cruel or nothing but that's the way i feel. as for giving up eating meat never. steak is great. so is pepperoni on pizza.

PETA puts more animals down, the educated term for killing them, than the people that they always diss. When you take your pet to be taken care of by PETA, nine chances out of ten they will be killed. And, a naked woman has no relationship to an elephant. What man is going to read after seeing the naked lady? The PETA people are publicity bound fruitcakes anyway!
