Roman Polanski Breaks Silence, Says U.S. Wants to 'Serve Me on a Platter'

Roman Polanski has broken his silence after months of being under house arrest, saying prosecutors in the United States only want him extradited on a 33-year-old sex case to humiliate him and cause a media circus.
In comments to an online magazine run by one of his supporters, Polanski said: "I can no longer remain silent because the United States continues to demand my extradition more to serve me on a platter to the media of the world than to pronounce a judgment concerning which an agreement was reached 33 years ago."
Polanski laid out his case while being holed up in his Alpine Swiss chalet.
"I have had my share of dramas and joys, as we all have, and I am not going to try to ask you to pity my lot in life," he wrote. "I ask only to be treated fairly like anyone else."
Polanski suggests the case against him is unjust and riddled with problems. Each argument begins with the phrase: "I can remain silent no longer."
One of Polanski's complaints concerns Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, "who is handling this case and has requested (the) extradition, is himself campaigning for election and needs media publicity!" Cooley is running for California attorney general.
The district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said the office "will withhold comment until the Swiss make a decision on his fugitive status."
Polanski fled the United States in 1978 on the eve of sentencing; he had pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. Her attorney argued she had the right to ask that the case be dismissed and urged the court to do so.
Polanski was accused of plying the teen with champagne and part of a Quaalude pill, then raping her during a modeling shoot at Jack Nicholson's house in 1977.
Polanski was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy. He later pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse in a plea bargain.

Let me see if I have the facts straight...a grown man gets a teenage girl drunk, gives her 'ludes, rapes her, pleads guilty to a lesser charge and on the eve of being sentenced flees to France. Spends the next 30+ years proclaming he himself as a victim of a legal vendetta. Roman, Roman you playing the victim is like a murder saying it was the guns fault the victim died. Like the '60s song said "I fought the law and the law won" Say hello to Bubba in the slammer!

HEY POLANSKY, YOU RAPED A CHILD. YOU FORCED AN UNDERAGE KID TO HAVE SEX. YOUR NOTHING MORE THAN CHILD PREDITOR AND SHOULD BE PUNISHED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW. WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR CLELBRITY GETS YOU OFF THE HOOK? IT DOESNT AND SHOULDNT. YOU BELONG IN PRISON JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE WHO DOES THIS HORRIBLE CRIME.
ITS NOT THE U.S. THAT'S TO BLAME, IT'S YOU THAT MOLESTED THAT KID, IT'S YOU WHO NEEDS TO PAY THE PRICE. PRISON!!!!!

An agreement with the victim is about civil justice. The state or feds are pressing the case. Good luck buying them off!!!

Pleading guilty and then running away before doing time is unfathomable. This isn't about politics - it is about justice. I fully understand the victim not wanting to re-live the horrors. Praying that his plea deal will be imposed without the need for her to rip open the wounds again.

What a joke. This guy knows what he did and ran from the law to avoid jail time. He has no rights and needs to be treated just like any other child molester. His excuses are an insult to the victim, her family and society.

"Hey pervert"....serve is the wrong term....to serve means to present with honor...you should be jailed and "cornholed" by some bull queer.

Regardless of how one feels about Mr. Polanski's actions 33 years ago, I tend to agree with his view. This isn't about justice. This is about politics. If it were not Roman Polanski but some "Joe Smith" there would be no media hype. The victim, who did not want this dredged up, has probably suffered as much as Polanski. This is yet another example of a prosecuctor trying to further his career with a high profile case. I'm sure we all rested easier while the late Leona Helmsley, Martha Stewart and Alfred Taubman were imprisoned! We face some very real threats in this country. Roman Polanski isn't one of them.

This IS about justice. What, he should not have to pay for raping a little girl? Doesn't matter that it was 33 years ago, he needs to go to prison. What if it was your daughter, your sister, your niece? Would it matter that it was 33 years ago? Yes there are bigger threats so what? Just because there are bigger fish to fry these other idiots should not be punished? And yes when all those other people did time for their crimes people were happy, they deserved to be punished and they were. He's in the media because of his career choice. He has suffered? Oh please he's been sitting back laughing for 33 years.
What a disgusting little pig.

Polanski is such an arse and is so very wrong. He broke the law, had time to serve, ran and now has been caught. He needs to man up which will never happen because he is a rat and return to the US to serve his time. How these people can stand behind him is beyond me and the ones who do are crap in my book. I wonder how many other young girls he has taken advantage of but then in Europe they don't care which is pathetic.

Nowhere did I read in this article where he said "I am Sorry". All it says is ME, Me & me. Loser.

Unfortunately the laws have changed since his crime. He must be punished under the law as it was then. It's sad to think though, that all this time he continued to earn a great living and we as Americans continued to pay and watch his films. Anything with his name on it should have been banned in the US. Like eveything else in America, out of site-out of mind.

Know what gets me? People like Harrison Ford and Johnny Depp- made films with him in Europe knowsing he plead gulity to rape and it's like they don't care. What if that was Depp's or Ford's kid? I'm sure they'd want the SOB locked up!!! Why did they didn't care. I'll never know. I do feel sorry about one thing that happened in Poliski's life - the murder of his pregnant wife by Charles Manson's 'Family':( That would mentally F*** up a lot of people but it doesn't give him a excuse to molest a child and run away from it.
