Bret Michaels Makes Emergency Room Plea

While Bret Michaels is currently at a rehabilitation facility for physical therapy and expected to make a full recovery after he suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage on April 21, he opens up about his ordeal and the emergency room plea he made to doctors. While in the ER, doctors told the Poison rocker that his kids, Raine, 9, and Jorja, 5, should be brought to the hospital.
"And I said in these exact words, 'Am I dying? If I'm dying, I want to see my kids, but if I have a chance, I don't want them to see me in this condition,'" Michaels tells
PEOPLE.
Michaels, who spent 10 days in the ICU, admits he's feeling "lucky to be alive."
The rocker suffered a brain hemorrhage on April 21 and was rushed to the hospital. Along with bleeding at the stem of his brain, he had a side effect called hyponatremia, which is a lack of sodium in the body.
Doctors say Michaels is headed for a full recovery. "Mr. Michaels was indeed a lucky person, a very lucky person," Dr. Joseph Zabramski explained at a press conference,
PEOPLE reports. Michaels is "still very sick right now," but he has left the hospital.
"He's improving and I expect him to continue to improve. I really expect that he will fortunately make a 100 percent recovery. He's just one of those lucky people -- 10 to 20 percent who make a complete recovery and can resume all of their normal activities," Zabramski added.
Michaels, who gained massive fame thanks to his success as the frontman for Poison and later as the kiss-happy star of VH1's 'Rock of Love,' is currently in the running to win NBC's 'Celebrity Apprentice.' During a recent interview, 'Apprentice' honcho Donald Trump said that he hopes Michaels will be at the show's finale -- even hinting that Bret makes it all the way to the finals. "He is still in the show. He's doing really, really well, and all of sudden ... I can't imagine ... I can't imagine he's going to be on the finale, but he very well might be," Trump said.
Life & Style magazine this week reported a similar situation, with an 'Apprentice' insider telling the magazine that "the final task has been filmed, and Bret's in the episode ... The live finale is May 23, and the producers really want Bret to be available."

I wish Bret all the best. I grew up listening to his music. Seeing him on the Apprentice has shown me that he is a very shrewd business man. I love you Bret! Your going to beat this thing.

As a child of the 60s, I was not a fan of his music. But, I must admit, after watching him on Celebrity Apprentice, I have great respect for him as an intelligent businessman. Picked him the 2nd week to win this thing!! Best of luck for a full recovery!

Ok, what am I missing here?? Bret lives with his girlfriend and their two daughters ( I think ages 5 & 9) So, why did he have that Rock of Love show looking for a girlfriend??
Mr. Micheals recieved the best care money can buy. Lets see YOU get that same level of care. You would'nt because YOU can't afford it. You'd be bankrupt before you could even begin to pay that hospital bill.
Remember folks....it's all about the money. Too many people here afraid of the truth that YOU could NEVER afford same level of care as Mr, Micheals.
I must say, I've never been a Bret Michaels fan, but he is one tough hombre. I wish you all the best Bret, and my prayers will be with you and your family.

And great American Health Care!!! All the best to ya Brett
It's not the power of prayer, it's the power of being white, famous and most of all having money!!
Tam, WTF, are you bitter with a chip on your shoulder or both. Get over yourself and your woe is me attitude. Prayer has everything to do with it!
Realtor, You little delusional fool, in this country money and fame make a difference in the type of care you receive!
Amen!
Of course someone had to bring up race and money. So what if he can afford the best health care? That's what this country is all about, opprotunity! He worked hard in an industry that pays very well for those who succeed, good for him!
This is also nothing about race. He got the best health care because he had great doctors, he could pay for them. But, of course, someone had to whine about something...
I hope he has a full recovery.
Yesterdays posters were saying "how strange to go from ICU to your livingroom" though that was never said.Glad to see in writing that he was just transfered somewhere else.Of course, theres a very good chance, the same posters won't read THIS correctly either! Get well soon,Bret.

You can get past this. I did. I will never forget in rehab a therap[ist brought me a messed up check book and told me to straighten it out. I asked if when I got out would I be able to play the piano. She said did you used to play the piano? I said NO, and I never balanced my checkbook either.

To Trotoff: I don't know if your post was meant to be funny, but it got quite a chuckle out of me!
I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage 17 years ago and I remember my husband giving me the check book to write a few bills about a week after I got home (two weeks and two days in the hospital). I looked down at it and then back at him and said I don't know what to do. ~ Mine happened the end of May '93 (Memorial Day Weekend) and I was as good as I was going to get by Thanksgiving. I still have short-term memory loss, big time.
Now that was funny! No chopsticks?
All the best to Bret...But it's time to stop touring and spend your time with your kids..You have been given a second chance..
