Elisabeth Hasselbeck Slams Erin Andrews, Then Cries

On 'The View' Tuesday, Elisabeth Hasselbeck criticized ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews for dressing inappropriately on 'Dancing With The Stars.' Noting that Andrews has faced two separate stalking incidents in the past year, Hasselbeck said, "In light of what happened and as a legal [matter] -- and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room ... I mean, in some way if I'm him, I'm like, 'Man! I just could've waited 12 weeks and seen this -- a little bit less -- without the prison time!'"

But when Hasselbeck returned to the 'View' stage on Wednesday, she was singing a new tune. Tearfully, Hasselbeck said she regretted the remarks and opened up to her 5-year-old daughter at home -- who convinced her to call Andrews and apologize.

"I said, 'Well, Grace, today Mommy hurt someone's feelings,'" Hasselbeck said, choking back tears. She explained to her daughter that "reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword."

"She's so cute, she said to me, 'Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry?'" Hasselbeck said. "So, thankfully, I listened to her -- she's a wise little girl -- and I did. So, I'm really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice."

Michael David Barrett was sentenced to federal prison in March for posting a nude video of Andrews on the Internet after filming her through her hotel door. Barrett, 49, received a two-and-a-half-year term and was ordered to pay $7,366 in restitution to Andrews. He admitted that he stalked Andrews for 18 months, tracking to at least three different hotel rooms in three states in 2008. He removed the peephole from her door in one of the hotel rooms and used his mobile phone to capture video of Andrews while she was naked.

Andrews told PEOPLE that Hasselbeck's remarks were "a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators." She added: "As a mother and a woman, I'm disappointed she went there."

Even Andrews' dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, came to her defense, calling Hasselbeck "jealous... and stupid 4 her comments" (via Twitter).

i almost never agree with elizabeth..but..this time I do ...Pamela was slammed for dressing like a sexpot on dancing but noone has said a word about erin's outfits.Since she was in the news for being stalked and a naked video of her ...Why would you go on national television in skimpy outfits...I think she likes the attention.....

OMG...this is like saying, "she asked to be raped." I'm really surprised she didn't get fired over this. I'm not pro or con Elizabeth, but I'm shocked that she's able to get away with this.

amen- when you have to listen to your 5 year old for guidance, well. Thank God he has give that child a sweet spriti. The only reason you have to be told to apologize is when you are prideful. Eliz is a moron! However, I had the same thought when I saw Erin on Dance w/ the Stars. I just thought it was a little early considering what happened to her to be shaking & shimmying around in front of ALL the crazies! What happend was not her fault, & if she is on the show, there is nothing wrong with that. She should be able to live her life. If it was me,,,, it would be a LONG time before I could do something like that, considering.

I couldn't agree with you more... That's exactly what PopEater does, especially to anyone who has concervative values. The rest of the cast at the view can shout all kinds of stuff, but they'll never get slammed for it the way Elizabeth does. Three against one, not exactly even odds. But with that being said, I, personally, don't think Erin's costumes were any more revealing than the rest of the women on "Dancing", and Erin looks fabulous in all of her costumes.

I think she was a little out of line. But in camparison to some of the other ladies of the view, I just think that it sounds like anything any of them have said. We don't know what was said to Erin afterwards, but I think her apology was sincere, and I give her credit for apologizing. The other ladies of the view rarely do that.

Thankfully, that video wasnt longer than it was. As far as Erin is concerned, the dress she wore last week, wasnt any less than Edyta wears.....no big deal

Edyta is usually half naked, and that's her right, - I am still trying to figure out when a scarf became a dress - I think I may understand what Elizabeth was trying to say - I had the same thought - strutting around in skimpy outfits and shaking your goods receives a lot of attention, both good, and bad. Erin is having a ball, and I think it is great! She is getting a lot of attention and some of that attention may not be the good kind . Given she has been the victim of a stalker - I can see how one would think she may be tempting fate - some new stalker may be thinking she is doing all of this just for me.......it's unfortunate, but a reality for some celebrities in the spotlight-There are a lot of sickos out there - I don't think Elizabeth meant to insult Erin, I think she was expressing concern for her and it was twisted out of context.
