Elisabeth Hasselbeck Slams Erin Andrews, Then Cries

On 'The View' Tuesday, Elisabeth Hasselbeck criticized ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews for dressing inappropriately on 'Dancing With The Stars.' Noting that Andrews has faced two separate stalking incidents in the past year, Hasselbeck said, "In light of what happened and as a legal [matter] -- and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room ... I mean, in some way if I'm him, I'm like, 'Man! I just could've waited 12 weeks and seen this -- a little bit less -- without the prison time!'"

But when Hasselbeck returned to the 'View' stage on Wednesday, she was singing a new tune. Tearfully, Hasselbeck said she regretted the remarks and opened up to her 5-year-old daughter at home -- who convinced her to call Andrews and apologize.

"I said, 'Well, Grace, today Mommy hurt someone's feelings,'" Hasselbeck said, choking back tears. She explained to her daughter that "reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword."

"She's so cute, she said to me, 'Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry?'" Hasselbeck said. "So, thankfully, I listened to her -- she's a wise little girl -- and I did. So, I'm really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice."

Michael David Barrett was sentenced to federal prison in March for posting a nude video of Andrews on the Internet after filming her through her hotel door. Barrett, 49, received a two-and-a-half-year term and was ordered to pay $7,366 in restitution to Andrews. He admitted that he stalked Andrews for 18 months, tracking to at least three different hotel rooms in three states in 2008. He removed the peephole from her door in one of the hotel rooms and used his mobile phone to capture video of Andrews while she was naked.

Andrews told PEOPLE that Hasselbeck's remarks were "a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators." She added: "As a mother and a woman, I'm disappointed she went there."

Even Andrews' dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, came to her defense, calling Hasselbeck "jealous... and stupid 4 her comments" (via Twitter).

Elisabeth should have been told at "5" that if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it at all! Your tongue is your worst weapon and to insinuate that a Private Hotel Room with a Peeping Tom and peering into your personal life as opposed to being on DWTS with costumes that are made for you and dancing in front of millions of people is the same thing is just Ludacris. She needs to zip it, I don't even like to watch the View simply because she is on it.

Totally agree with Elizabeth, she was not out of line at all. Even my husband said "Isn't that outfit a little risque?" And that's a man talking. She looked like she had pasties on for god's sake.

I stopped watching the view when Elisabeth joined. She is probably one of the most closed minded women I have ever witnessed. I enjoy the conservative vs liberal argument up to a point but she is a horrible example of the conservative point of view and is way to narcissitic for the show. It should be light and entertaining. I always thought The View was about women and our challenges in life and a way to support each other. IMO, she is simply their to promote her own agenda.

She is jealous of Erin Andrews and there is no way that her five year old "told her to apologize..." She Elizabeth herself cannot recruit the courage to admit a mistake on her own. Oh Wonderful. Nothing like bringing such madness to the mind of a 5 year old. How about we don't " adultify" the children and put our big girl pants on and do what is right to begin with? Kids should NOT be in this mix at all.

As a 59-year old woman I never watch the View. There's not anything more boring than watching and listening to a bunch of women talking about everyone and everything that they really don't know anything about!
Why is it that "Christian" women are so darn demeaning to anyone and anything that isn't practiced in their own little world? I find Elizabeth very hypocritical, rude, uninteresting and very untalented.

I'm with you Marsha. Elisabeth is your typical blonde, doesn't think before she speaks. I watch The View and she always seems to over speak, most of the time things she knows nothing about. Makes very ignorant statements. She pisses me off most of the time and seems to irritate a lot of folks even her co-stars. She could be replaced and I wouldn't miss her at all!

Are you frickin nuts? She's DANCING. Dancers where outfits. Skaters where outfits. What rock did you just climb out from under. THAT STALKER HAD NO RIGHT. EVEN IF SHE WORE NUN GARMENTS NOW. YOU AND ELISABETH ARE JUST AWFUL.

Elizabeth HAS to talk over these other idiots because it's the only way she can be heard! It's four against one in case you forgot! The liberal agenda is so strong on that show, it's practically shoved down your throat.
